Performance Auto Care Center

Last minute safety check. I would wait til the last minute to get the safety check done. After calling around to all the traditional auto service places and having no luck on getting a last minute appointment, I started looking at independent auto care places in the neighborhood. Came across Performance Auto Care Center and talked to John. He told me if I came down ASAP, he would be able to get it done for me. 5 – 10 minutes later, I found the place, John completed my safety check pretty quickly, and got me on my way. Appreciated the convenience in location and being able to accommodate my last minute appointment. Will be back next time and will not wait til the last minute.

Back for safety inspection, change radiator fluid/​hoses and replace s-​belts on my 2001 Toyota Tacoma. Dropped truck off in the morning, picked up in the afternoon. Good to go! Excellent service again.

If there was a lower rating for customer service, I would give this a big fat NEGATIVE ONE rating. I purchased a discount card nd phoned in 3 weeks prior to it’s expiration. Not only did the owner yell at me on the phone and refuse to schedule me and honor the card beyond the expiration date, he hung up on me as well and told me to contact the company that issues the cards. This is by far the poorest customer service ever received. Do NOT buy a discount card as he will not give you the service you would expect from a retailer. I would expect adequate or at the very least, respectful treatment, whether I was a discount holder or a full paying customer. BTW: If you have an «unusual make» of a car, John will charge you for the filter and disposal. I guess hour 2002 JETTA was not a make/​model he typically services.

I was looking for someplace close to home where I call get a safety check and somebody recommended Performance Auto Care. I’ve never heard of them, but was glad to find out that their less than 5 minutes from where I live and very easy to find. I called them around 5ish or 6ish and John the owner picked up. He was very nice to take a look at my car even though he was already in the process of closing up shop. He was literally locking up his door, but he stopped what he was doing and instead of telling me to come back next week he took me right then and there. GREAT customer service!!! Not sure what others are complaining about that he has terrible service. I have been recommending his shop (safety checks) ever since. Great shop and great staff, by far.

I don’t know about these Haters of Performance Auto Care Center. John and his staff are AWESOME!!! I have been going to John for my automotive needs for over eight years now. I have only had Excellent Customer Service.

Horrible communication with owner.
My car had trouble on the freeway and FSP towed me off in Waipahu. Called the nearest place and saw all the rave reviews from performance auto. Had their tow truck referral tow my car to their garage and they said they would check on the problem and call me within the next two days for a diagnostic. (This was the ONLY call I EVER received from them, until I got BITCHY).
Quoted me $ 3000 to fix the engine head since the timing belt snapped on my PT CRUISER. I approved the work request since I just needed my car back ASAP.
One week later, he said they are working on it and should be done by the time I get back from MAUI. False, nothing was started and I had to call for this status.
Two weeks later, they still haven’t worked on it and I got all the excuses in the world that two of the mechanics are out on personal leave. I had to call for this update, but I was still understanding. I just needed my car for work.
Three weeks later, the owner tells me that he still hasn’t gotten to work on it and at this point I can have my car towed to another garage. I am furious and asks that he have it towed to his referral garage. He doesn’t have one so said «ok we will do it this week».
Four weeks later, still no call from any of them and I am irritated without a car. I call to find out that they are only taking my car apart now and it will be ready in a couple days. Need to send engine head to the machine shop. Rude communication by now.
Five weeks (from time of drop off), they finally call and tell me that my car is ready and they will give me $ 200 off the labor cost. Lol. My life has been inconvenienced with rental cars, carpools and the bus… and all I got was a tiny discount which brought my charges to $ 2800. Ridiculous.
I would never recommend or use this garage for anything. Maybe if you going to get a safety check or oil change since it doesn’t require any training or skill. Never for any major mechanic work though!!! Did I mention my car was dusty and I had to wash it myself?
Horrible work. One week after my car was released, my car battery died out while I was at work. After having to jump start my car, I look under the hood to find out the battery connectors was LOOSE. How horrible are they.
John is the owner and probably is a great person. I am just concerned about the way he does business. Horrible communication, terrible work, took way too long to get the job done. He shouldn’t have taken the job if he couldn’t deliver quality service. I honestly feel that he treated my business badly because I am a local single woman and he thought he could take advantage of my kindness.

This is a great mechanic! they know what they are doing… they are fast and reliable. They don’t waste your time or your money! I can trust them with any of my car needs!

It’s hard to find a great mechanic now a days, but taking it here was a great experience. John and his staff took care of my car and fixed it right the first time. The price was fair and it was back to me when they said it would be. I recommend them often, especially with our service vehicles.
