dr. hori & all his staff is WONDERFUL except for VERONICA! her customer service is unprofessional & lack of respect for patients. she is not skilled or qualified for a multi-​tasking industry. she lacks in communications & doesn’t care of any concerns but hers. ALSO don’t bother asking Veronica to email all of your child’s information to the new dentist because they won’t receive it. I hope dr. hori finds a new front desk for someone who is as good as him & his other staff.

Update: They re-​did their office layout, and it looks so much more spacious and inviting compared to how it was in the past. It does not feel cluttered anymore lol. The service remains true to the motto «kid safe, kid friendly» the staff and Dr Hori himself are very easy to talk to, and makes sure that you as parents understand whatever procedures your children will have to go through before proceeding.
Their office has also been voted as one of the best Pediatric Dentistry office in 2015 by the Honolulu Magazine. An award deserving for the outstanding service that they bring to each individual who enters their office.
My wife and I will continue to bring our children here for as long as my children are able to receive such awesome service from Dr. Hori, and his amazing staff. Mahalo for all your hard work Dr Hori, and staff.

Thank you for always taking good care of my daughter at all of her appointments. The staff is always friendly and nice to me and my daughter. Especially Rachel! They always make us feel comfortable and safe. We never have to wait long to be seen. I am always confident that they do quality work. They show client appreciation!

I feel the receptionist don’t know there job here. I have called to schedule an appt for my son’s sore tooth over a month ago and never recieved a call back I also had a referral from his ortho to get a few teeth pulled out so I called them over and over during the week until they finally answered the phone, they pick up to tell me they never recieved a referral and can’t schedule an appt until they get one. So I told them schedule an emergency appt because his tooth hurts and she had the nerve to ask me what’s his name again? So I am thinking they wasn’t even looking to see if they had the referral for the right kid, if they had to ask me for his name again! so anyway they schedule it… to make sure I asked my ortho about the referral being sent and she said she mailed it 2x and faxed the referral, she also sent a pic of the referral on my phone. Still Dr. Hori’s receptionist say they never recieved anything. I finally come in for his appt and I told them about the referral and I have a pic on my phone of it. They say they still never get it and to send them the pic I have to their email. So when I get in to talk to Dr. Hori I decided to show him the pic and right away he writes down the teeth that needs to be pulled! Simple as that while his receptionist just give everyone the runaround. Also when he finally got his teeth pulled out he asked if he could get a toy from their treasure chest and they told him no! Glad I didn’t find that out from my kid until after I left. Absolutely ridiculous I am definitely finding a better business for my child’s dental work to be done elsewhere and you should too.

Customer service sucks. we came in with confirmed appointment and got sent home because they cancelled it without having a courtesy call. we wasted time off from work and gas to make the appointment and all they said is i understand. we also encounter one of the front desk that does not know what their doing. if there is an option not put a star that would be my rating. if i am dr. hori i would put my staff in check and properly train his staff on customer service. if it was not for the dental service itself i would definitely not recommend this establishment.

I’ve been bringing my son to this dentist since 2006. I was receiving medical through the state of Hawaii for him and this was one of their approved locations. I continued to go here even after I cancelled state insurance and paid for services. I was just denied an appointment because we were 12 minutes late! Literally, walking into the building and they call to say I’ve been cancelled. Enduring the rail construction traffic through Waipahu, I would assumed that this might be understandable. Apparently not.
It was a mess from the jump. They first called me a few days before the original appointment which was next week, informing me that they would be closed. Sure, no problem so I tried to reschedule for the following week. At their request, I agreed to come in today instead. They then called me at 10:30am to see if I could come in at 11, instead of 11:30, which is what they scheduled me for. I said no since that was not enough time to get there and since I was pulling my son out of school for this appointment at 11am. Then at 11:30 they called and said I need to hurry because they get off at noon. Now please tell me, why would you schedule a dental exam 30 minutes before you close?
I’m super disappointed in their customer service. I’ve always paid for the extra services, purchased their kid sets of toothbrushes, special toothpaste, and before today, we were always early for every appointment. Everything is paid on time and I’ve never given any trouble. Even after getting «off the system» I continued to use this dentist regardless of now having the opportunity to go somewhere closer to home and not go to this quest location.
Super disappointed. Dr. Hori seems like a nice guy and all, but sorry… I’ll take my business elsewhere.

Accompanied my son for his dental appointment, upon entering I was instantly overwhelmed by the loud TV & radio simultaneously playing at the same time! If this is was an attempt to somehow drown out the noise of children, id prefer the laughter n voices of the keiki anyday! It’s simple… TV OR Radio at a comfortable level! Very unprofessional enviroment! Not personal at all! Staffs personality seems so rehearsed n disengenuine! Horrible experience for a 1^st time visit w/​my son!

I have been taking my child to Dr. Horis office for about two years now and every time we go our experience is awesome! The front staff is welcoming and the ladies in the back are fun and really friendly. For the first time my child needed cavity treatment done and Dr. Hori explained everything to me step by step on what my child will need, what procedures will be done and I was able to check up on my child through out the procedure. Just like any child would be nervous of going to see a dentist, to my surprise my little one did well. Crying is normal but I trust the staff and the doctor and felt so much better when I got to take a few peeks through out the procedure. This office does not sedate and I felt more comfortable knowing that my child would not be asleep during the procedure. Great staff! Thank you for this experience!

Took my Keiki in for an emergency visit this week. The staff were so friendly & caring. Dr. Hori as always is AWESOME! :-)

My children went to the dentist this past weekend and it was not very impressive. First assistant called in children with mask and gloves on; holding the door with her gloved hands (Cross-​contamination). Son says X-​ray area (pano machine) dirty and smelled– told him can’t help it’s a children’s dentist. However problem should be addressed. Quick fix: shampoo carpet and wipe down machine! Next they collect copay for service not rendered. I called office while driving off to our next destination asking what was done to kids because they wanted to eat their snack. However it didn’t match up to what my husband saw them doing. Thank God I’m in the dental field making my husband aware of the routine. So they will adjust my bill and give me credit for services not done. I hope they don’t bill my insurance for it.

My children have been to Dr Hori for a few years now. The bldg the office is located in is a little ghetto but once you get out of the smelly elevator and into the office its really nice. Very kid friendly. They have books, toys, and even have a tv that plays kids movie and not the food network! My kids say the staff is really friendly to them which is all that really matter. They most of all enjoy the treasure chest full of toys after their cleaning.

First of all, I’m kinda torn in writing this. We’ve been seeing James Hori since our kids were born, and though Dr. HORI is great with them, the experiences leading up to seeing him — actually getting into the office — leave a whole lot to be desired.
Recently, I had to take my 4 year old in — he fell on his face and loosened his two front teeth. We called when the office opened and explained what happened. Whoever we talked to deemed this an «emergency» and gave us the soonest appointment at — get this — 1pm! Real emergency, huh? And to top that off, we were told NOT TO BE LATE. well, okay. Take what you can get, I guess.
So, we pull into the parking lot and notice a «new» park and pay box that was NOT there on our last visit. Had to slip in $ 2 in quarters in that small slot. UGH. Then we went upstairs, exited the elevator, and ran smack dab into a small mob — the area was FULL OF PEOPLE. It seems that they were «at lunch.»
Right at about 1pm, the elevator opens up and (I swear) the whole office staff (sans the doctor) walk out. I guess they all go to lunch at the same place and time. Then, we get in the office and stand in another line. Some GENIUS thinks an I-​Pad to sign in is a good idea.
Now, while I’m all for technology, ONLY ONE I-​PAD? With all of these patients/​business, couldn’t they afford at least 2 maybe even 3 more? And to add to the frustration level, you have grandma in front of the line that has NO IDEA what a computer is, and 1 (of 3) receptionists trying to explain what to her what to do. The other two receptionists were fiddling on their computers, occassionally looking up. Maybe they were looking at how long the line is.
So… we stand in line for another 5 to 10 minutes, I finally get my hands on the ONE I-​PAD, and while signing in, I’m told «oh, you’re an exiting patient so… NO MATTER if cannot fill in (the I-​Pad). How’s THAT?! So, I sit down and the long 40 MINUTE wait — remember, this is a so-​called emergency — begins. Then I see a sign on the wall that says to go on Unilocal! and rate Dr. HORI.
So, once you get past that door and are on the other side, no problem, the hygienists and assistants are great with the kids. Dr. Hori talks to you like a peer, not condescendingly. He answers all questions you have and is very reassuring, almost calming. It’s getting to that point that’s unbearable.

My son loves it here!!! Every time he has a check up he’s excited and does not cry. We were referred here because he cried with his previous dentist. Very happy.

Chose this place because it the closest pediatric dentist to where I live. The BLDG is poorly labeled so it took me driving around it a couple times before we figured it was the right place.
As we walked in the placed smelled like a fish market my kids held their noses until we got into the elevator. We arrived to the office 10 min till 2pm but the door was locked. I peeked into the window and saw that there were ppl inside having a mtg in the lobby. Another family and I waited 15 mins before they opened their doors for us to enter, now why would you schedule a office mtg during office hours?
In the waiting room the décor is very kid friendly and warming but the waiting area is small. My first child was not seen till about 50 mins after our appt time. They mixed up my kids names and my kids played musical chairs while the staff tried to figure out which kid was what age. My middle child in their system was her father’s name and when they finally cleared the mix up it was 330 pm.
As I was standing in the hallway inbetween the rooms that my kids were in, a man walked down in the middle of the clinic BAREFOOTED and his feet look like he is in dire need of a pedicare, like HELLO this is considered a medical facility!
At the end of the visit, we waited another 10 mins before we were given our co pay amounts, but their receipt did not have a break down of the services, insurance and co pay amounts. They also did not give me an estimate for the future visit of my eldest child.
The staff were friendly but they clearly need more training working their system because a patient should not have to see the confusion and lack of organization, especially at any type of medical facilty.
LASTLY, ALL people whether employee or vistors need to have footwear when inside the treatent rooms.
