We serve the Big Islands favorite breakfast menu all day long, so the kids can enjoy french toast or a loco moco, while you savor one of our gourmet steak or pasta dinner specials. Creative local fresh fish specials are served daily, including our incredible poke bowls.

Some of the local’s favorite dishes here include the Kalua Hash and Fried Rice Plate as well as our award winning Pancakes. We’ve been rated as one of the top 10 pancake houses in the country by Travel and Leisure magazine! Some of the great flavors include Haupia, Banana Mac Nut, and Blueberry pancakes. Whatever your palate, you’ll find something you love. This is Hawaiian home-​style cooking at its best — comfort food that the whole family will love and accommodating service that will make you feel like you’re right there at home. History

Established in 2005.

Guy Kaoo’s childhood memories on the Big Island were spent in his grandmothers Chinese restaurant in Hawi. It is no wonder that in 1978 Guy chose to open his first restaurant, also in Hawi. It was called Sony’s Place, also known as «The Game Room.» In 1982 Guy left the Island of Hawaii, and moved to LA. Guy was eager to return to the Aloha state, and did so in the early 1990′s, Guy worked for the Hilton Waikoloa, where he started as a banquet/​conventions manager, eventually becoming Catering Manager in 1998. He spent the next 7 years designing menus, and creating food served with aloha to the large volume of guests ranging from 20 to 1000+. In 2005, an opportunity arose to become the new owner of the Hawaiian Style Café, a well established restaurant since 1993. After persuading his wife, Gina, Guy took over the Hawaiian Style Café in 2005, and embarked on a complete overhaul of the establishment. Guy chose to maintain the heavily Local menu, because it was the food of his childhood. T

Lady at our resort recommended this place for breakfast on our drive around the island. Amazing food. Food was ready super fast. Staff was all friendly. Good music playing in background. If I wasn’t heading back home tomorrow, id definitely be back.

This is a very humble and simple shop; serving Hawaiian food.
I will be okay if I don’t eat these delicious dishes every day as the sodium is sky high.
I requested for my dish not to be a swimming pool of sauce. They have no problem to do that for me. Mahalo!
I noticed the local comes here too. For some reason, the sign said they close at noon. But if your name is on the list before noon, they will still serve you.

Heard about this place from our bartender (who lives in Waimea) and wanted to check it out.
SO GLAD WE DID! Local diner feel, pretty busy, amazing menu. I wish I could have eaten there a few more times to try some other items on the menu.
This place is fantastic, get the loco moco and add Spam (or get one of the loco moco type concoctions with Spam already in it).
Go hungry but just go. It’s awesome.

Great local spot. Speedy service and wonderful food. Serving sizes are huge. I enjoy the Korean chicken, stew and of course the pancakes!
Restaurant only open until lunch time which makes it very busy, but worth the wait.

So happy that Hawaiian Style Café waimea was open on Memorial Day! First time eating here! Love the quaint setting! The servings were amazing! We all had such a variety — banana mac nut pancakes (that overflowed the plate!), Gina’s special — corned beef hash, French toast & 2 (easy over) eggs, mixed plate — Teri hamburger steak & honey fried chicken, seafood combo with Kalbi ribs!!! We needed a nap after all that! Lol!

Perfect answer for a late morning breakfast. Beef and Kahlua hash, haupia pancakes with mac nuts, Hawaiian sweet bread French toast, fried rice and eggs… All hit the spot!
Extra $ 4 to split a plate which is kinda lame, but other than that all good.

Excellent locals brunch spot. Prob not much to add from what everyone else has already said, so if you’re in the mood for standard American brunch food with a nice Hawaiian twist, hit them up. We came on a Thursday and were seated right away, but the waitress says Fri-​Sunday there’s always a line but it moves quickly.
Get the coconut pancakes.

Omg amazing! The breakfast portions are insanely huge! You must try the Hawaiian French toast it melted in my mouth! If you order meat with your meal they give you a ton, probably a half a pound of bacon. I have never heard my husband say «I need
You to help me with this bacon» until we went here! Can’t wait to go back!

It’s days like these where I really, really wish I still ate all the carbs. If you love the carbs and are truly hungry, then Hawaiian Style Café is the promised land! Get here and get some!
Nearly all the breakfast dishes come with massive hash browns and a couple pancakes that are larger than most people’s heads! Some of you have big heads, so maybe the pancakes are head-​sized; the point is, they’re HUGE!
We arrived as the place opened. Within 3 – 4 minutes, it was slammed and the service was still on point! There was so much food that, in addition to eating way too much, we had snacks with us in the car as we made our way to the other side of the island to the Volcano National Park.

Hawaiian Style Café’s menu promises «local comfort food» and oh boy do they deliver! Everything tastes so great. They serve up huge portions at such reasonable prices, and awesome service from wait staff to chefs. As some others have commented, the «side» of pancakes is so large it’s a meal itself. And all scraps go to local pig farm!
We arrived on a weekday around 10am and easily found parking and seating. However, I could definitely see this place being packed during weekends.

Loco Moco — Excellent. Note, you CAN add spam to it, highly recommend.
My girlfriend ordered a veggie omelet, and it comes with a side of pancakes. WARNING — a «side» of pancakes at Hawaiian Style Café is a normal persons order of pancakes. They were HUGEEEE.
They have two seating areas, regular tables, and a community U-​shaped table. We were lucky enough to sit at the U-​shaped table next to a land surveyor local who had been here for 35 years, originally from Alaska, and we picked his brain for all the local spots.
For a little hole in the wall breakfast place, this was delicious!

We loved their Loco Moco, made with grass fed beef, it was heavenly. And a huge portion. We should have ordered a half size.
We also ordered what I thought was chicken fried steak with a salad, but I ordered off lunch menu and was served three pieces of fried chicken covered in gravy. It was fantastic!
We hiked down to the Pololu Valley earlier and we were hungry but had to take to go containers.

Are you really hungry for breakfast? No, I mean REALLY hungry?
If you are, stop into Hawaiian Style Café where the omelet’s come with a side of potatoes and two pancakes about the size of your head!
We brought a lot of it to go and snacked on it most of the day while exploring the Volcano National Park. Definitely worth a stop.

Loco Moco was SOOOO ONO! I had the Big Moc. I could have gone with the Regular Loco Moco (made with frozen beef patties), or the Daily Special Loco Moco (homemade patties), but The Big Moc was calling me because I wanted to try their homemade Portuguese Sausage that came on it. Also had 2 housemade link sausages and 2 pieces of fried Spam. All of these were on 2 large over-​medium eggs, 2 scoops of white rice and smothered in their own rich brown gravy. I love the way the yolk kind of mixes with the gravy and sticks to the rice. The Portuguese sausage was well worth the burger patty exchange. a little spicy and crisped up nicely to pop in your mouth. Wife had a normal person breakfast and Jr. had his own Portuguese sausage and eggs. The whole bill was 25.00. That’s what gave The café the 5th star. That was the price of 1 breakfast at the Hilton where we were staying!
BTW THEY ONLY TAKE CASH!!! I will come back for plate lunch next time!

Recommended by my friend who lives in the area. This is a hole in a wall type of restaurant. Pretty busy during the holiday. We had 7 people in our party, had to wait about 25 minutes before being seated. The setting is pretty casual.
I ordered the French Toast with meat (portuguese sausage). I requested to have haupia sauce on top of my french toast. They are known for their HUGE bigger than your face fluffy pancakes. My friend got the works (banana, strawberry, chocloate chips, macadamia nuts and the haupia sauce) to hers. Heads up, you get charged an additional fee (i think it was $ 6) if you want «the works» on your pancakes. Not much of a pancake fan but it was pretty good. We took it to go as a snack for the beach which sucked in more the flavors. French toast pretty simple, nothing fancy. Sadly I didnt get my portuguese sausage that came with my meal (our waiter got everyone else order correct, even their extra add ons, except mine) and I was charged for it. My bad for not saying anything about the error.
Portions are big in size so you do get your money’s worth from this place. I regret not ordering the loco moco at this place as this was recommended by othwr Unilocalers.
CASH ONLY. There is an ATM available in the restaurant. Read on the menu that they charge $ 3.95 for sharing. I would recommend making it a larger restaurant so there is more space to accomodate everyone.

This is a fantastic little hole-​in-​the-​wall. Sit at the counter and have a chat with the servers and all the locals. We had a great afternoon getting to know some local people and finding lots of common ties to our hometown.
Food: 5⁄5 — really this is what it’s all about. We had the house-​made hamburger steak and the grilled short ribs. Both were excellent and VERY generous portions. The hamburger steak came smothered in brown gravy (of course) with 2 scoops of rice and salad. The ribs (3 racks at least) were so tasty. They too came with rice and salad.
Service: 5⁄5 — friendly, efficient, and REALLY personable.
We struck up a conversation about the sign on the wall stating that they were not able to serve Stew Luau due to the dengue outbreak — we didn’t know what the connection was. The local guys harvest fresh taro down in the valley and supply it to the local markets, but because of the dengue outbreak they can’t go down into the valley — too big of a risk to get bitten by mosquitoes. No fresh taro = no Stew Luau. Seriously. That is dedication to fresh food (and disease free humans) right there. No substituting.

You must come here if you are ever in Waimea, the best hearty Hawaiian food. Make sure you bring your appetite because the portions here are ginormous. You could also choose to share, except there is a sharing fee. I ordered the Kalua hash, with a side of fried rice and scrambled eggs. My friend had ordered the Big Mok (Loco Moco) and the Coconut Pancakes. These pancakes are insane, I have never seen pancakes this large, and thick. Needless to say, every dish was delicious. The food choices in Kona are a bit scarce, but you can’t go wrong with Hawaiian Style Café.
Also, make sure you bring cash!

The dining options surrounding the more touristy parts of Hawai’i are a bit limited unless you’re willing to feel some serious financial pain for mediocre food. Fear not — Hawaiian Style Café is very literally all you need so long as they’re open, and my two recent visits were among my best breakfast experiences anywhere this year.
Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere?
While a bit on the small side and prone to waits of more than thirty minutes, the popularity isn’t without warrant. This is a local spot, and it’s top notch service and authentic atmosphere were among the highlights of my recent trip. The food comes out quickly, and the servers are always willing to take some extra time for explanations or just to chat. Truly wonderful. Star Granted.
Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost?
Compared to essentially anywhere else on the island that might frequently cater to tourists, the prices at Hawaiian Style Café are more than reasonable, with entrees ranging on average between $ 8.00 and $ 12.00 or so. During my first visit I opted for the Kalua Hash, where a massive portion ran me $ 10.75. My second visit (the next day), my Hawaiian Style Moco Loco was $ 10.50 and could have very easily served a party of three. Value. Star Granted.
Stars 3 and 4: How was the food?
Goodness me. I love hash, and as a result have grown a bit picky, but my Kalua pork Hash dish with fried rice and two fried eggs was absolutely phenomenal. While I wouldn’t frequently associate rice or any kind with breakfast, the fried rice went brilliantly with the hash and the eggs, and was brought together by tasty pork that was clearly freshly made into the hash. Wonderful.
The Moco Loco was a new dish for me, but was also very good. While such a complex dish could lead to skimping on the patty or the gravy or some other part of the dish, everything came together brilliantly in a way I hadn’t before experienced. These pieces: rice, hamburger patty, grilled onions and gravy are excellent independent of one another, but they come together in a way that you have to experience at least once. Two amazing dishes? Dual Stars Granted.
Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could?
It pains me that it might be a while before I return to the Island of Hawai’i, and a big part of that comes down to my two experiences at Hawaiian Style Café. Wonderful. Star Granted.
