History

Established in 2013.

Sumek Dance studio is founded and directed by Tanya Somday-​Unemori, MFA (Master of Fine Arts, Dance) who completed her Master’s degree in dance from University of Hawaii Manoa in 2010, and by her husband Mark Unemori a professional dance instructor since 2005 and a full-​time licensed Professional Electrical Engineer at ECM, Inc. in Wailuku not far from where Mark was born and raised. Together, with their family and two young children, they are passionate about sharing the many benefits of dance here on Maui — most importantly to have fun and make new friends.

Business Owner

Tanya began her formal dance training in 2001 at Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon and went on to study at Mills College in Oakland, CA for her undergraduate thesis and an achievement award. She studied Tango in Buenos Aires, San Francisco and assisted teacher in Honolulu where she also achieved her Master’s Degree through UHM.
