Pineapple Run 10K

I’ve done this run twice now. It starts and ends at Kaala Elementary in Wahiawa. Participation seems to be under 1,000. You run around Kaala Elementary, then head toward the main strip of Wahiawa, where you run up to and through pineapple fields, then down to Schofield, back to the main strip at Wahiawa, and to Kaala Elementary. Luckily, there are no surprises and you finish where you started. All race participants get shirts upon registration packet pick up (regardless of whether you finish). The shirts this year were orange. This year, the first 650 finishers got medals and all finishers got pineapples. It is a fun run to do and the setting is different than many other Oahu road races. There are hills, which makes this race a little more difficult. This year, the race didn’t seem that well organized. Notably, they ran out of cups before all the participants had finished, so water stations along the route and at the finish line were unable to dispense water to many participants. Pretty bad and potentially dangerous, considering that runners depend on aid stations along the route to keep them hydrated and cooled down. That was my biggest concern about this event. Hopefully, the organizers plan better next year and work out that significant kink.
