Darkside Haunted House

We’ve been to Darkside a few times and the wait on the line for a Thursday before Halloween was surprisingly short. Mr Z, the gatekeeper, acts casual, but you can tell he’s a major player there, screening the crowd and making sure it all runs smoothly while dealing with a few characters who rival the actors’ characters inside! Kudos Mr. Z!
Inside, it’s an outdoor maze of twists and turns that play heavily on the startle factor. I thought a lot of the makeup was starting to look the same but then there was a butcher– WTF, if he came to my front door I’d grab a Ginsu, but inside here you’ve got to expect some creepiness. The makeup he had was awesome, but what was really great was his imposing size and how he handled himself. He managed to scare without going over the top and screaming and that’s pretty cool. Darkside, keep him at all cost!
Then you go inside and it’s another adventure– room after room with different themes but one that stood out was a room of dummies and you knew one had to be real. Pretty trippy.
I won’t spoil much, but… LOL… okay clowns don’t scare me. I have relatives who could pass for creepy clowns so it’s no big scare for me, but if you’re afraid of clowns and that clown from AHS freaked you out, expect to be terrorized by one or maybe more… Bwahahaha!
Overall, it seemed shorter than past years, and maybe there were less actors, but it was still very fun and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next year. (And Darkside folks, feel free to reach out to me if you want some ideas!) Stay creepy!

So much fun! Well done and sure to make you jump a bit if you are not a screamer. Loved the effects. Line did not take long. Well worth the long drive. Get there!

This is my first Unilocal review, that’s how serious I am about this haunted house. IT WAS AWESOME!!!
I got the shits scared outta of me and to be honest I was visibly shaken after it was over. I’ve been to a few haunted house and walks but this has been the most memorable of them all.
I highly recommend it!!!

Wow! If you like haunted houses, this one will have you jumping and screaming from start to finish. You start at the outdoor section which seems to have expanded. After the first round of scares, you then enter the inside of the house. The rooms are very well made, creepy and gory and the actors are relentless in trying to scare you. It’s a great time. It’s pricey, $ 23 and if you purchase a «fast pass» online it’s $ 33. You’ll wait on a loooooooong line that’s ultra slow but it’s fun enough to be worth the time and money. This is a must for anyone looking to get into the Halloween spirit!

Omggg so scary only waited 15 min two weeks before Halloween in October.

They even had the scary clown from AHS!!!

First the drive is a little out of the way but honestly worth every extra minute.
From the moment you walk up you know it’s going to be interesting and you might even think this is going to be a piece of cake… well in my opinion I was not expecting what I went through.
Without too much detail, I had to stop to catch my breath and that was only at the first two turns.
I will admit, (puts head down) I kind of pee’d myself and used my young son as a shield.
When I thought, and actually hoped it was done, they just got started. Oh those scary people did me in!
I walked out trying to breathe, wearing wet pants, and sore fingers from digging into my sons shoulders but I’d do it again… next year though lol
GO GO GO…

We love The Darkside… can’t beat the locale… like something out of a movie… located out in rural farm country… we go every year.

It was scary! I loved it. Entire moment I was scared to death. Very scary and spooky moments. They were chasing you with Chain saw! Their setup was really good too. Overall they did a great job chasing people out of the hunted house.

OH.MY.GOD. This haunted house is so scary!!! This is the 15^th haunted house I’ve gone to this October and it was insanely scary. Every single part is scary. I have never screamed so much in my life LOL The wait time was not that long and it’s better if you go in groups of two. Trust me! It is definitely worth your visit and your money. I do not want to give away any spoilers but from the minute you go in, you will be scare for your life!!! This haunted house just ranked #1 on my list.

This haunted house was totally awesome! The lines were not bad, friendly staff and great actors. The sets and make up were great! I recommend this to everyone!

This is on of the best haunted houses I have ever been to! I first visited about 10 years ago and it was so great then as well. Its located deep in Long Island in wading river.
Its located on a hug dark field, (already scary) so you drive in there’s a parking lot area towards the back.
The house: Looks like a haunted house out of a movie! Creepy looking shack with lots of haunted statues and a hearse parked in front. Several different rooms inside, lots to see!
The experience: Actors are in full character mode, starting with the doorman you are greeted by out front. All sorts of different scenes inside, crazy doctor, crazy butcher, crazy psych ward and lots of darkness! They also have a haunted village, where your walking through a cemetery outside. Actors look real, and the house looks real, the show is awesome!
There’s a food truck in front incase you want to grab a snack or a cup of hot chocolate. On the weekends, there is a Long Island radio station that broadcast from there, we went on a Saturday, so we were able to enjoy the DJ.
Its 20 bucks, which I think is totally worth it!
If your looking for a REAL scare, visit this place!

I dunno why people go to Eastern State Penn. I’ve never been, but I know I wouldn’t be about it.
THIS was definitely worth the two hour drive despite having work at 6 AM the next day though.
Everyone goes to Manhattan to get their haunted house fix. But despite being from NJ, we opted for Long Island. Everything in Brooklyn, Bronx and Manhattan seemed «average». This place was $ 20 and looked pretty sick. The drive was the only daunting part of the whole thing… but we about dat life. #yolo
The wait wasn’t very long.
When inside, the actors control the flow and pace of your trip through the whole thing. For $ 20, you experience some scary es h eye tee outdoors, and then indoors.
For $ 20.
And being in the back doesn’t mean your safe necessarily. Nor does being in the middle.
I was in the front sometimes and missed some of the scares while everyone pushed me forward screaming.
There was a ride that they don’t have out when it’s busy called The Last Ride apparently. You sit in a coffin in the back of a hearse while two funeral home dudes drive you around and talk about you as if you’re dead.
That. Is. Sick.
This place is sick.
I don’t wanna go in to too many details, but there’s just so much going on…25−30 minutes depending on your pace. My shoes were untied so it took a minute.
Everyone was stoked on how we came all the way from NJ.

I loved this place :) it’s officially my favorite haunted house on long island as of now. it was a lot of fun to go through and they even scared my fiancé so bonus points there lol. we went tonight which was a great night to go. years ago it was fun waiting on lines now being older I love to just get in :) plus it was only $ 15 pp tonight.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! EXPECT NIGHTMARES! SERIOUSLY! I can’t speak highly enough for The Darkside haunted house. this year as well as last year my visit Darkside was on a perfect cold, rainy, dreary night. Darkside scared me at least twice as much as two popular Long Island haunted houses that I visited earlier that night combined! I will Definitely revisit this season. only $ 20, Darkside Haunted House provides a terrifying walk-​through with cleverly detailed scenes and unique designs. If you have never seen the haunted house, you’re definitely missing out! If you have seen Darkside before, then you WILL want to go again and see the fantastic additions. So many new things to see here, you won’t believe they added everything and just one season. their hard work and dedication to the haunt experience truly shines through the quality, design, and performance. It was long, the actors scared me many times, and that doesn’t happen to me much. Darkside haunted house deserves every bit of the five star rating.

the haunted house changes slightly every year, some some years it will be REALLY good, and other years slightly disappointing. they do an excellent job of hiring from the surrounding areas, teenagers, young adults, and older adults. it is often that i’ll see neighbors and friends working there during the season.
the entire thing is split up in to two different parts. either a haunted «graveyard» walk where you walk around outside and walk past graveyards, sepulchers, and tomb sites and get the wits scared out of you (good for young children, because the open air environment is a little more calm and less scary). or the haunted house proper, full of smoke machines, strobe lights, narrow hallways and various rooms to scare you silly!
you can either pay for one single thing (either the walk or the house only) or for both.
the price increases every year. a few years ago I spent $ 40 for a single ticket for both the haunted walk as well as the house.
