The Heldeberg Workshop is not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing an Adventure in Learning. It is chartered by the Board of Regents and is located on over 200 acres at the foot of the Helderberg Escarpment in the Town of New Scotland. History
Established in 1961.
The Heldeberg Workshop began in upstate New York in 1961 when four mothers conceived a vision for learning for their children that was creative, meaningful and fun. They recruited area experts in art, science and music and established the Workshop in the local school building.
By 1964 the Workshop was chartered by the Board of Regents, a 250 acre farm was acquired and the Workshop had a home of its own. The Workshop serves about 1,200 children each summer with 1 and 2 week outdoor courses in science and nature, high adventure, theatre and art, to name a few. Thousands have experienced learning on the land and over $ 12,000 in scholarships were awarded last year so that children from low income families could attend.
