History
Established in 1983.
Founded by 3-Time World Champion & Hall-of-Fame member Ken MacKenzie in 1983, MacKenzie’s TaeKwon-Do & Hapkido Institute has worked successfully with over 10,000 local children, teens and adults. Students (and parents) have reported strong gains in the areas of: self-confidence; self-esteem; self-control; self-discipline, physical fitness, respect for family members and; overall happiness.
With affiliated schools («dojangs») around the world, MacKenzie’s currently serves as the World Headquarters for Hapkido-Founder Ji, Han Jae’s (of South Korea) world-wide federation. In 2011, ‘Grandmaster’ Ken MacKenzie was elevated to the highest level of 10th Degree Blackbelt in Cheonan, South Korea, thus becoming the first-ever American-born to have achieved this level. Even with all of his accomplishments, GM Ken MacKenzie still enjoys working right here in southern New Jersey with his own students. Many of these student have gone on to achieve greatness in martial arts, academics, career, etc.

Grandmaster Ken MacKenzie started his own training as a youngster. He has spent his entire life mastering both his craft, and the fine art of teaching. As a competitor, MacKenzie won hundreds of tournaments, national titles, and the World Championships in Korea 3 times. He has been featured in newspapers, radio shows, television, and has graced the covers of 3 magazines, including the iconic ‘Tae Kwon Do Times’ magazine. He is an inducted Hall of Fame member, and was honored as the «International Grandmaster of the Year» this year.
Today, Grandmaster MacKenzie spends his time with his own 3 children, teaching classes at his martial arts academy (MacKenzie’s TaeKwon-Do & Hapkido Institute), training future instructors, and teaching international martial arts seminars around the globe (18 countries in the past 2 years). Grandmaster MacKenzie is know as «a Big Man with and even Bigger Heart»!
