Updated review, day after wedding day. Several hairstylists and makeup artists from Hello Gorgeous Voorhees performed magic on my bridal party(as well as myself) yesterday. I received dozens of comments on my hair and makeup, as did my girls(and mother). Everyone’s unique style requests were met, and all of my ladies left the salon feeling beautiful. This is my usual salon, since the magical Gia works here(see earlier review for more information on how wonderful she is), but I have also been to HG as a part of bridal parties in the past. Every time they really hit it out of the park. I highly recommend this salon, especially for special events.

I love Hello Gorgeous for all of the services provided there. Gia is the only person I will let touch my hair, despite having a few friends in the industry. I have been going to Gia for a while, and she has always given me the perfect look, whether I have a very specific style in mind, or just an idea for her to run with. She’s seen me through reds, browns, and blondes, and patiently experimented with different highlights, lowlights, and cuts. She’s also very personable, as are the other stylists I’ve come in contact with during my visits. For my wedding, Gia must have combined the look of ten different photos I showed her to create what can only be described as a piece of art — my hair looked amazing! I’ve gotten my nails done here, as well as facials and massages, all being the best I’ve had in the area. I’ve gotten gift cards in the past to high end places such as Bernard’s(gag!) where the employees spend the entire time trying to sell me products and additional services. I have never experienced a high-pressure sales pitch at Hello Gorgeous, and have always been able to deeply relax. Hello Gorgeous is highly professional. Finally, the tanning at Hello Gorgeous is the best. I don’t tan too often anymore, but in the past, I’ve tried every place you can imagine. Everyone knows you won’t get quick results from tanning packages that come free with a gym membership, or cheap places like Sun Capsule(back in the day), but Hello Gorgeous is on par with Hollywood Tans, yet is cheaper and produces a better tan. It’s obvious they replace their bulbs when they’re supposed to. Hello Gorgeous has done hair and make-up(among other services) for my and several of my friends’ weddings as I have recommended them with my full endorsement. I have never left the salon anything but completely satisfied, and every service has been well worth the money.

I really tried hard to love love love this place. I started coming to hello gorgeous for haircuts with whatever stylist available just to get my usual cuts. After an epiphany to chop off all my hair, I made an impulse decision to come here since my usual Moxie Blue was booked til 5. I got my hair cut by an awesome bubbly stylist(not gonna mention her name) and she upsold me on staying longer because she wanted to dye my hair. Going along with my impulse decisions, I said sure. After trying to dye my hair, it still stayed black. Nothing clearly worked. I was hoping she could finish it, but no. She had a list of clients ready. So I just paid for my haircut and made an appointment to come in the next day for my hair dying adventure. I forced myself to get up and go after second guessing myself, get it done and it was ORANGE. «don’t worry I’ll fix it» she said. So she tried. She added toner and tried soo hard to convince me it was ombré when it clearly just went black to orange. As mad as I was, I felt bad and paid. The next day, I realized I shouldn’t have paid for my services at all. I went into the car and cried my eyes out looking at my orange hair. I ended up box dying it black after trying to tone the brassiness down myself. I officially have major trust issues with people touching my hair. I don’t want to put the stylist on blast, or even get her fired, because she went on to tell me about how she’s a young single mother– but I really did not appreciate her having multiple clients at once. From the moment I came in the second day, she had a friend sitting in the chair next to us chatting away about their social lives. I initially thought she was just there to chat, but once my color was on, she said«Ok now you guys can switch» I looked at her in a weird way, but I’ve never been second booked like that. I’m sure she was just trying to make more money, but I felt so used? Almost. Then she let the lightener sit too long and couldn’t rinse me out and made me wait for someone to be available to rinse me. The lightener was clearly on too long, causing my hair texture to change dramatically. While the«friends» hair color was sitting, she went and got not one but TWO more clients! — a mother daughter duo at that — — long story short, my color was not right, insanely brassy, and I left the salon crying. She charged me $ 100, but I already had tears in my eyes and just wanted to leave. My sister wanted to refute the amount but I let it go. The stylist asked if I wanted to come in wends to fix it but it didn’t fit my schedule. So to fix it, I dyed it myself the next day, and now have to follow my own touch ups. Safe to say, I’ll never enter hello gorgeous voorhees. Ever. And you shouldn’t either.

I’m not in the business of writing poor reviews, but I cannot lead you astray my fine feathered friends. HG receives 1 star for the services and an additional star for the staff(I cannot in good conscience give more than 2 stars because the particular service I’m reviewing is awful, despite the fact that the staff deserves 4 stars). I’ve only ever been to HG for hair removal purposes(don’t style it, don’t shampoo it, just remove it), but I hear they do offer day spa services that are pretty cool. I’ve been for both bikini and brazilian waxes, and neither experience was pleasant. First, they use the wax with strips, meaning the process is more painful and there’s a good chance you’ll be left with an exceedingly sticky feeling of unremoved wax, patches of hair, and a gait that looks like you’ve been riding horses all day. I won’t drag the aesthetician’s name through the mud because she is absolutely lovely! Smiles, makes amazing conversation, respectful of space by leaving the room to let you disrobe in peace, and just generally bubbly and sunny. Hooowever, her abilities just do not measure up… first, she leaves GOBS of wax, it’s the most uncomfortable I have ever been post-wax. Additionally, she does not tweeze errant hairs after the initial removal process, likely because the strips have already removed a layer of skin and you’re laying there exposed and raw, and she doesn’t want to pry(literally). I believe the bikini wax was around $ 45, while the brazilian was around $ 60. I hate to do this, but European Wax Center in Cherry Hill will do a Brazilian for the price of HG’s bikini, and there are fabulous deals for students, members, and those who pre-pay. I’d say visit HG for the experience, but my… ahem. heart…just won’t allow it.

Here’s the thing: Hello Gorgeous can be awesome, but only if you find the right stylist. I’ve been coming here since they first opened, and I have had some amazing hair experiences and a few awful ones. I’ve been seeing Gia consistently for about 2.5 years now, and she is a sweetheart and a great listener. I experiment with my blonde highlights and deeper lowlights, and she’s always great at going a little lighter or a little darker depending on the time of year. My mother is in her mid-50s and she swears by Linda, but I think she is best for middle aged women(the way she styles hair and her expertise in covering gray). Finally, Carrie is excellent for nails! She does a perfect job and is so nice. One thing I really respect about this salon is that they will always make honest product and treatment recommendations that are budget friendly, even if it means sending you somewhere else to buy a product over hawking what they carry.

So I went again yesterday to have my hair fixed by Dolly, & this time I made sure that I got exactly what I wanted. I showed her a picture of Ashlee Simpson’s ombré hair, & she said okay, that’s what we’ll do. The process what a lot shorter this time, & since the salon was slow, she seemed much more attentive. She actually blow dried my hair this time, & flat ironed it too. Dolly gave me the ombré look that I originally wanted, & re did the peekaboo highlights. She also gave me a small sample of the CHI silk infusion she used on my hair, which was also nice. I ended up tipping her anyways, even though the appointment was free. I don’t think I would have been comfortable not tipping her. But all in all this time at the salon was the best out of the 3 times that I have been here. Not sure I would ever return here though.
