I got my hair cut by Evan, and got the most intricate, precise haircut I have ever gotten in my life. He paid extremely close attention to detail and left me feeling clean and fresh and high quality.

Dave is the best barber I have ever been to. He will dial your hair in however you want and if you let him try something new for you it is always great. How great? Random girl walks up to you out of nowhere and says «nice hair» great. He takes his time and makes sure everything is perfect so if you are looking for a 30 minute pay with a credit card supercuts experience, this place is not for you!

Always get a great cut here. My regular barber had me set up for an appointment once and had a family emergency. He took his time to call me personally and make sure I got set up with another barber at the shop before he had to leave town. That’s class and customer service. Always a good soundtrack on, and they take the time to get it right. Stop going to Supercuts, Great Clips, or places like that and step up your hair game with these guys. Cash and appointment only.

I recently moved to north county and one concern I had was finding a new «go-​to» barber. After trial and error at various other barbers, I came across Jon at Straightedge. He’s very detailed oriented and takes his time to ensure that you get a haircut according to your needs. This shop is legit, it blows the other ones I’ve been to out of the water.

If you want a great haircut in a professional and respectful atmosphere, then this is the place for you. Both Jon and Dave have cut my hair and are fantastic! Yes, this is appointment only but it’s nothing to do with being snooty, as one reviewer claimed. They are simply BUSY because they are the best around. If they turn someone away, it’s because they are booked and can’t squeeze them in, end of story. Using a review to promote a neighboring barbershop should make everyone question the reviewer’s validity.
One downside is their «cash only» policy which is inconvenient in these modern times when most consumers prefer to pay electronically. It’s the only downside keeping me from exuberantly giving this shop 5 stars. Run, don’t walk to Straightedge. You won’t regret it.

Get those two things down, and you are set. I had scheduled an appointment, but Unilocal did not do a good job making it clear this was cash-​only. When I called to make an appointment it wasn’t mentioned even as a first-​timer. So I walked in cash-​less and had to reschedule. They were easy-​going about it and I apologized.
Came back in with my rescheduled appointment and cash-​in-​hand, and had a wonderful experience. This place reminds me a lot of Obie’s barber shop in Riverside, CA. Retro feel with antique chairs. Men-​only for barbers and clients. 5 total staff and only 3 – 4 chairs inside. A lot of care is taken to socialize with the customers and create a relationship so that your barber and you can be on the same page for hopefully many follow-​up appointments. You schedule an hour cut and can also do an additional hour shave. The full hour is utilized to make the haircut and shave perfect. My wife and I thought the result was outstanding and I was pretty stoked to find a great new barbershop and barber. Will be back! Also, cheap to boot. Only $ 25 for the cut plus tip.

I don’t understand all of the complaints… I started getting my hair cut by Tristan in February and have 0 complaints about anything with these guys. I called on a Friday, was scheduled for my first appointment on Saturday, and have been going back about every 3 weeks since.
I can understand some frustration if you walk in looking for a haircut and get turned away because it’s appointment only, but this stuff about the guys being rude and snobby is a bunch of nonsense. I go in wearing shorts, a t-​shirt, and flip flops just about every time I go in for a haircut.
If you want a good haircut and the personalized experience that goes along with it, be an adult and schedule an appointment at Straightedge… You won’t be disappointed. If not, Supercuts is always happy to give you a bad fade and razor burn.

Update: I’ve been going to Dave for over 2 years consistently and can’t rave about this place enough. Customer service is top notch. You make an appointment (say 4:00) you show up a few minutes early Ned you’re in the seat at 4:00.
Make an appointment and get the best cut of your life

Well I just moved to the area about a month ago and I went to this shop based on the reviews that I saw on here. As I walked in with no one waiting but all 3 chairs were full at the current moment. The barber asked me do you have a appointment and I said no that I’m new to the area. He said we only do haircuts by appointment only. I asked him is there anything you can do he said no to call on Monday to make an appointment on Monday with a complete attitude. News flash you guys are a barber shop not a hair salon. Maybe it was what I was wearing basketball shorts and a run down shirt. Well anyways because how I was treated I won’t be coming back here because they are only in the business of keeping there current customers and not trying to get new customers.

This is a Snooty Barbershop with rude barbers.
I am new to the area and drove from 20 minutes away to try this place out based on all the good reviews. I didn’t realize you needed an appointment because there is nothing on here that state’s «by appointment only» but that’s fine.
What I didn’t like was the attitude I received when I walked in to an empty barber shop with 3 barbers and a customer that had just finished his haircut. I politely asked if they could give me a haircut since they were all free and they had to discuss whether or not to give me a haircut amongst themselves right in front of me without an appointment (which was unprofessional).
They rudely said, no and to call Monday to schedule an appointment. I felt like they said no only because I was wearing basketball shorts, t-​shirt and I wasn’t in a suit and tie like the customer who had just finished when I walked in. This place is very judgemental and given the fact they are in a run down ghetto area of Vista and not in La Jolla where you expect places to be like that.
They lost someone who would have been a great consistent customer who always tips his barber very well. Since they decided to be rude me, I ended up going to the 760 Barbershop down the street and they gave me a perfect haircut with a great welcoming attitude.

I’ve been going to Straightedge Barber Company for 10 months and I’ve always had an amazing cut and service! I see EVAN on a regular basis and his skills are unsurpassed. He is patient, very detailed and if something isn’t correct, he will fix it!
Don’t be a damn DOUCHEBAG if you are a first timer! They only take appointments; therefore, don’t give attitude if you walk-​in and they can’t accommodate you for that day! Make an appointment, graciously thank them and come in at your time to experience a true, professional experience. If you don’t like it, go to Supercuts where you will look like someone put your head into a blender!
If you have time, get a shave! A real old-​school, traditional shave! An amazing, relaxing experience and your skin will be grateful!

At last I have found my place. I will support this Barbershop as long as they are around.

I’ve been going here for over two years and these guys are hands down the best barbers I’ve ever had. I’ve had Dave, John and Evan each cut my hair and they’re all excellent. Ben the owner trains his guys extremely well. I get the feeling that he has strict guidelines and standards because the whole shop has a certain perfectionist way of doing things. Never been anywhere that takes their time like this (nearly an hour). The place is really cool inside too — a total man’s barber shop. Only way I could think of to improve it is if they had a cold one for us end-​of-​the-​day appointments.
I really don’t get that review that pans them for requiring an appointment. Newsflash: they’re the real deal, therefore popular and therefore (usually) can’t take walk-​ins, which makes it an appointment-​based business! Why is that so difficult to understand? The guy never even got a haircut from them and yet feels justified in trying to hurt a small business just for requiring an appointment. Wow. I think we’d all prefer that guy to stick with Supercuts.

I haven’t written a review before because I didn’t want it to get too popular for fear of losing my appointment slot. Yes… I’m selfish. Now that this place has been «discovered» and my time slot has already been pretty much locked in, I feel comfortable about telling you how awesome this place is.
I have pretty much gotten the same haircut every 2 weeks for over 20 years. The only thing that has changed was the height of my fade (90s high fade, early 2000s taper, now i’m at a mid). Since I’ve moved quite a bit all around the country, I’ve had haircuts everywhere from Northside Houston (emphasis on northside), to Washington Heights, NYC, to Bakersfield CA (don’t knock it, they can cut some hair!), and now North County SD. Straightedge is one of the best barbershops I have ever been to (the other ones on my list are MCs in Houston, Groom Team on 181^st in NYC, and Vintage Cutz in Bakersfield).
My cut is a fade. Fades are hard. The ultimate goal is to have a blending of from bald/​near bald. If any line is visible, it’s what my friends would call a «chili bowl» haircut. This is extremely difficult; head shapes and lumps vary per person, different hair textures leads to a change in the direction the hair is cut, even hair color is a factor in creating that perfect blending. These factors and more not only determine the technique the barber uses, but the type of clipper the barber uses. What I’m getting at is that a knowledgeable barber has to know all this AND more to create the perfect cut tailored to your head. This is what Straightedge does best.
This place only takes reservations because each cut takes about an hour. You cannot just walk in and expect to be fit in because that would mean a customer already in a chair AND the following customer would have their appointment time reduced. If you want to just walk in and get a 20 – 30 minute cut, this is place is not for you. If your current barbershop does a perfect job for $ 15 in only 15 minutes, there is no reason to come here.
I give straightedge my highest possible recommendation.

Great haircut. I usually get a haircut, come home, and my wife makes fun of me. I order the «4» on the sides and «8» on the top. Most places buzz both sides and then are done in 10 minutes. My haircut here took upwards of 45 minutes and was extremely thorough. There was a straightedge involved. Also scissors, buzzers, combs, etc. Oh I also had my 3 year old twins with me and the 10 year old manager kept them busy the whole time. Pretty impressive for a 45 minute haircut. All in all: great haircut.

If I could give this place six stars I would.
I love this place ! I have been coming here for over a year. It’s hard to find a place that has everything I need because I am very picky. Respect is a two way street ! Anyone that talks bad about this place 1. Doesn’t have respect for others 2. Don’t have manners 3. Need to Get off their high horse. They have excellent customer service and excellent barbers.?Gentleman with class and a fine establishment.

Wildly impressive and detail-​oriented barber from Mira Mesa (wish I remembered his name so I could recommend you get him). It was a simple taper cut but so many other places tend to take shortcuts and I end up looking like I got what I paid for or worse.
Not the case here. I was lucky that they slipped me in a few days before an interview since they’re typically so popular that you need an appointment. It was only $ 20 so I gave a $ 10 tip and told them they need to raise their prices.
I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in SD.

Awful, the absolute worst customer service I’ve experienced in a very long time. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I’ve received service that was just so absolutely horrible.
Their appointment policy is complete nonsense. It should be first come first serve at the customer’s convenience, not at the barbers.
Next Tuesday??? Yeah, I don’t think so. They acted like I was from another planet because I didn’t know they only worked by appointment. It was like they were playing some celebrity barber crap which no one has time for.
I went there about 45 minutes before they closed and was more than willing to wait. I don’t really care about the arrogance so much but I walked in with a thick headful of hair. I need to sit in a barber chair at least 20 times a year. The fact that they allowed me to walk out of there with cash in hand, losing a potential long term revenue source is just beyond me. Just out of general business sense alone, as a new customer, one of those guys should have made sure I got a haircut that day. It’s just unbelievable.
Instead, they played the we are so cool act (one barber actually called me «Man» like it was 1977 or something) and they ended up losing a customer for life.
I still can’t believe this actually happened.

Well first off this place is awesome! Very professional establishment. All the guys are respectable and are great at what they do. My barber Evan is the man, he can clean anyone up he is a true artist!
