This is the place to be! Friendly, great tasting food, and the root beer is hand made in the store! Love the chicken sandwich with a pretty tomato and pickles! Gotta try the papa burger with bacon… killer!!! Much love to the A&W downtown!!! xoxo

WOW! is this place still here? Most A&W’s have abandoned the old fashion car hop style experience so its nice to learn this one location is still as it was 50 years ago! I used to come to this A&W as a child since my grandmother lived just blocks away and my uncle’s business location was just next door. there also used to be a Safeway grocery next to it? they always had fantastic tasting(the old way before A&W destroyed their burgers and everything else) burgers and fries and the old ambiance of the car hop service was just great. also they always had pin ball games in the inside dining room which by the way was air conditioned which is really nice on those HOT Visalia summer days? Next time I get out west I’ll make it a point to see if they are still open. Visalians are just so lucky in the food dept. there are so many great little hole in the wall places where the food is wonderful! Miss it at times!

Service was friendly, albeit a bit slow. Had to sort of stand around and wait for someone to finally come take our order. Food was ok, about the same as any other A&W, the cheese curds are my favorite thing and tasted pretty good. The inside was a little dirty though, and even though I am not normally one to complain about flies this place had a ton of flies inside. Like, my girlfriend and I sat down and there were literally 15 flies congregated together on the table we were going to sit down at.

I enjoy coming here with my kids. The food is always fresh and delicious. Can’t go wrong with a root beer float in a frozen mug. They have a cruise night ones a month and some of the nicest cars come out.

Well, this place seems a bit corporate– the food is consistent, greasy which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Order a root beer float and watch your childhood memories come gushing back in an ice-laden frosty tall root beer mug! if you get a refill, they give you a new glass! During the summer months, they have awesome car shows and live bands. Its been a staple of downtown lunch for a while so check it out!

Best chili burger in town, IMHO… since Tommy’s closed down and Chili Billy’s before that. Besides, who can do better than real draft root beer, eh? Good stuff!

OK, TOTAL letdown. I’ve never been to an A&W restaurant before. But I’m a big fan of their root beers, especially their crème soda root beer. So I had high expectations. Root beer floats are relatively simple. Ice cream and root beer. You can change it up with French Vanilla, Vanilla Bean, or just plain Vanilla. And you can even make it Coke or Orange Crème Soda or a variety of other carbonated drinks. So how can the one company that gets root beer so right get their root beer floats so wrong? They use soft serve. Soft serve?! Who does that? You need real ice cream. I’m never coming here for a root beer float fix again.

If you want the complete drive-up burger stand experience, A&W has got it. The inside dining room is pretty small, but that’s because the outside parking area is ginormous!(But there are always sweet video games inside, so choose wisely.) Pull in, order your food, and it’ll be brought right out to you. Or you can just park, walk up to the window and order, then sit back down wherever you’d like. The burgers are great, the curly fries are the best I’ve ever had, and Root Bear is their mascot. How can one go wrong?
