Wave Children’s Learning Center

They will leave your kid crying in a corner and not console him or her after you drop off. My daughter got bit twice in the same day. Once is understandable but 2 times and you just are not watching my kid. The director caters more to the church then to the parents. The facility looks nice but the care for kids is subpar. Out of 6 teachers, i only liked 2. They do not require much education to be hired as a teacher and they have a high turn around rate. My daughter could never get to know her teacher because it was always changing. There are many other schools in the area to look into, I would avoid this one!

My children currently attend Wave Children’s Learning Center. I am a single mother. I work a 9 – 5 in business development. Firstly my hours can be strange as I try to accommodate clients and other work responsibilities and the Wave accommodates those hours for working parents: 7am-​630pm. If security is concerned, they have many protocols to combat your concerns, including live security feeds in every classroom and others I won’t mention for obvious reasons. I write this review as a former SAHM, employee of a daycare, nanny, etc.
My children currently attend the preschool and kindergarten programs.
I chose this daycare primarily for their location to our home, ability to bus my children to and from school, and the quality of education. The campus is beautiful and includes an indoor play area and safe outdoor area. The bus trips to and from school and field trips have been well managed, to my knowledge. I actually prefer they do not serve them lunch, as I don’t necessarily agree with the state’s guidelines in what is considered «healthy». The day is planned, and for my children who enjoy structure, it is a welcome experience. Certain educators use scripture and character building activities in their lesson plans, which I also value.
Onto a very personal experience that may be to some relatable. When we began at the Wave we had recently moved to Virginia Beach into a much smaller, one parent household. My soon-​to-​be kindergartner was having behavioral issues due to the confusing time. He regressed in every way. He forgot his manners, his alphabet, had toileting issues, and lashed out in anger or defiance. My son is now a thriving kindergartner who is excelling in school, his behavior is respectful and in line with his age group and he hasn’t had an accident in almost a year. He is not medicated. I attribute his successes over the past year to the constant love, support, discipline, reinforcement and dedication of some very special educators at the Wave. I believe it would invade their privacy to mention them here; although my heart sings their praises. They have been such a blessing to our lives. As for my younger child’s educators, they have also been amazing.
The con’s are certainly that they have raised tuition prices again; however, I still believe they are commensurate with other high-​quality institutes in the area.

Wave Learning Center is located on the campus of, and is run by, the folks at Wave Church. It started in 2004 as primarily a daycare and preschool program with less than 100 students, and now offers complete instructional programs for children from age 2 through Kindergarten, as well as full infant daycare. The more structured instructional classes are divided into groups for 2’s, 3’s, Pre-​K and full Kindergarten. Additionally, there is a wonderful Montessori program available that draws from all age groups. The Center also offers before and after-​school programs for older elementary and middle school students who attend Virginia Beach City or other private schools, and provides pick-​up and delivery bus service between most public schools in the area.
Summertime activities are also an integral part of the Center’s offerings. Structured classroom experiences give way to more activity-​based full or half-​day schedules for the kids in the summertime. Field trips, sporting activities, movies, non-​academic creative classroom experiences, and just plain fun are all part of Wave’s summertime programs.
My own experience with Wave has been as a grandparent to three grandsons who attended the school from age 2, and as the father of one of Wave’s teaching staff members. We could not have been more happy with the quality of instruction and depth of social interaction experienced by our grandchildren; the two that have already gone on to elementary school are excelling in all areas in their school, and the one that remains at Wave is progressing just as nicely as his older brothers did while there. I highly recommend considering Wave Learning Center when looking for a quality preschool program in the Great Neck area.
