Cypress Point Country Club

I live in the community that surrounds this golf course and it’s country club. We don’t golf but we like living here.
This Thanksgiving there were only the two of us, no family locally, so we decided to take advantage of the Thanksgiving buffet at the Country Club. The CC recently replaced it’s Sysco heat it up and serve kitchen for a Corporate run kitchen management. The Thanksgiving buffet was priced at $ 23.00/pp, a fair price for me to not have to spend a day in the kitchen.
We made reservations and were seated immediately. The décor was pleasant, fake flowers but they looked nice. We had a two top with a table cloth that fell to the floor on all sides, I made a successful effort to not trip over it. Our server seemed pleasant, her first time at this venue but she seemed to have more tables than she could juggle. Our water glasses waited for refills and our dirty plates stacked up from our trips to the buffet.
Now let’s talk about the food on the buffet. This didn’t come from my mom’s kitchen or my kitchen. If it did, I wouldn’t be hosting again. The pasta in the pasta salad was harder than al dente’. I skipped over the stuffing, looked bad, but he had it… said was like paste, no texture. I like to leave just a few tiny pieces of potato in my mashed potatoes just to let you know they didn’t come out of a box. There were large chunks in these. The turkey wasn’t sliced, it was shredded. Mac & Cheese… where’s the cheese? Gravy and green been casserole had inappropriate serving utensils. My husband had the white chocolate bread pudding for dessert, it was congealed, very hard, not spongy at all. The chocolate sauce on top was a hard surface.
We each had one alcoholic beverage. Our bill was $ 81.00!!! A 20% tip had automatically been added.
On our way out the apparent new Food Director asked me how I liked it. I told him that I could do much better but didn’t have people to cook for. He frowned. I asked him if his mother could do better. He said yes.

I’m not a huge golfing kinda gal, or a country club, for that matter, but this lives up to every expectation of a country club you may have.
As I walked in, I noticed the chairs were large cushioned chairs, definitely not the type you’d find in a restaurant. They were very comfy! I pulled up a chair and barely waited to get greeted by my server. She got my drink order and I decided what I wanted to eat.
I ordered a diet coke and a grilled chickens sandwich with fries. Definitely a good sandwich, but again, nothing to rant/​rave about. The fries were very crispy.
The only complaint I have was that it was freezing inside. Other than that, the over all experience was good. The server was on point and the food was exactly what you would expect.
If you’re golfing, I’d definitely stop by and have a little something, but I don’t think I’d go out of my way to eat here.

Best kept secret in the area since most people hear Country Club and automatically think it’s a private course. I’ve play every course in the area and by far this is the best maintained course in the area besides Riverfront & Heron Ridge, I’ll even would say it’s better than VB National and that’s saying a lot! It’s great for beginners as long as you keep it in the fairways. Staff is also great with the best cart girls! This will be my new Home Course!

This Unilocal is just focusing on the Golf Course and doesn’t discuss the clubhouse or other amenities.
The course is well maintained with a clever use of tunnels so not to interfere with traffic. However, it felt a little cramped to us compared to other country clubs we’ve played. This was due to the number and the proximity of houses, condo’s and apartments to the rough. Since it was a weekend it also affected the serenity of the greens as a couple of houses that lined the course were having a get together in their backyards, which echoed up and down the fairways close to them. This wasn’t a big deal for my wife and I but if you’re looking to escape city life for the peacefulness of the golf course than you might want to consider a more secluded course.
Ranges: All good quality.
Driving: Clearly marked distances help to get a good understanding on your capability with your clubs (or rentals). This is also a good range for those who like to practice a long drive as there’s a flag at 250yds, with what looked like +50yds of range past it… for those that can reach out to 250+ yards.
Sand/​Chipping: There’s one sand trap practice area on the west of the driving range, which allows for hits out and onto the range.
Putting: A large practice putting green is directly behind the clubhouse with the same quality of green as what’s on the course.
Fairways: The Fairways are generally long and straight with only a slight slope, a couple water hazards and a few doglegs. Playing with my wife I found out that unlike many of the courses in Hampton Roads, including the military bases, the girls Tee Box is cared for as well as the men’s and the seniors Tees.
Greens: Large, well cared for with a fast to medium speed and a narrow apron of rough. Sand traps are standard with a few greens having rolling hills of rough, which looked as if they were once sand traps themselves.
Overall: This is a good course at a good price but it was a little crowded and confined. We enjoyed our game but more than likely will visit a few courses we haven’t played before coming back so for me it’s just A-​OK, 3 Stars.

We were here for a wedding reception. This place is pretty nice and the employees there were great and attentive. Myself and another bridesmaid came early to help set up for the dinner party later that day (per the bride’s request), and of course the persons to help with the wedding reception was not there yet. (we were really early). But I came across a Golf Pro who asked if I needed help. Of course he could not help us because he’s a Golf Pro, but he did stop and asked us what we needed and went to see if anyone was there to help us. He didn’t have to do that, so I thought that was pretty cool of him (never caught his name, though). But when the dinner party started everything was in order, so no worries there. If you want to have some sort of reception — you should definitely check this place out.

They have the best driving range in the city, hands down.
The course itself is OK. It’s well maintained. But I have played it 3 or 4 times and never left feeling content. I just hate playing on courses with houses lining the course and it’s just plain tough for a 24-​handicapper like me. But I guess I’ll be playing here more when Lake Wright shuts down.

Have to say, I was very impressed by the price, quality and service here. I took clients here yesterday after securing a «Hot Deal» on GolfNow. $ 75 for three of us. I’ve hit balls on the range here, but had yet to play. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised! Greens were hard, but rolled well. Fairways, Tees & Bunkers were in good shape too. Great public course for sure, I’ll be back, no doubt about it!

It was a crisp but wet Spring morning when me and two friends ventured out to visit this Country Club. Now I will admit to you now, I am not a fan of country clubs. That mainly stems from the lack of what they can offer that I can’t get at a municipal golf course. However, there is one distinct advantage — less crowds.
Of course, the lack of a crowd of backed-​up golfers could have been attributed to 1) the onset of a slight rainstorm, 2) we started on the back 9 at around 9am, or 3) it was Mother’s Day. I would say that the Mother’s Day factor is a moot one, because an avid golfer will gladly skip their own anniversary for a chance to get 9 or 18 holes in. So scratch that one.
Driving around the course, it was well manicured. It looked to be in tip-​top shape. There were a few spots where the golf cart path could have used a little maintenance, but it wasn’t enough of an issue that I needed to retrofit the cart with 4×4 tires. I did try my best to beat the course up with my abysmal play, but it still looked pretty good afterwards.
I would definitely give the place another once over, if given the opportunity. It was definitely a good time.

Before I share my thoughts in this review you may want to know that I am a member of this club and have been one since June 2010. In search of a place to call «home» for my golf game I visited a few other clubs that weren’t so much out of my way to get there. After a number of searches I decided to call Cypress Point Country Club my home course.
I’m been an avid golfer since I was 13. I’m far from competing on any sort of real competitive level but I wanted to play a course that offered a pretty good challenge. This place seems to fit the bill okay. There are much tougher courses in the area for me to hone my skills but I did need something convenient and I wanted to spend most of my time golfing at a place where I can just hang out with the little free time I have.
Here’s why I like this golf course:
1) Provides a decent challenge (mediocre for all the golf courses in the area)
2) Great practice facility — I like the driving range and people are allowed to chip on their practice green
3) Staff is friendly
4) Their restaurant has pretty good food and great happy hour specials
5) Members of the club seem to be tight with each other often hanging out together outside of the golf course/​club
6) Non-​members are welcome to play
In the last two years I’ve made some pretty good friends hanging out at the club. On numerous occasions I’ve brought out groups of 20+ people to play the course and had no problem securing tee times. On my birthday the last two years the staff graciously reserved times for me to have eight groups play (2010) and 13 groups play in (2011) at discounted nine hole rates. They even staffed their restaurant with extra people for my following birthday extravaganza.
The course is in pretty good condition, too. Greens can be a bit slow but given the volatile weather that we experience from time to time the maintenance crew is a bit conservative on letting the grass grow long with fear of burning the course up on hot and dry days.
Again, you don’t have to be a member to play the golf course. I suggest stopping by their restaurant for either lunch or dinner (it can get pretty packed for dinner). The club does welcome private parties and offers private rooms for group meetings. Weddings and receptions have been held there, too. It’s a good all around place for more than just golf.
A group of old guys do hang out in the locker room playing cards. Though you will find that at any golf course you visit.
