Crazy Good Donuts & Ice Cream

Marginal menu, below average service and dark environment.
It could be just me, but I found this place to be a little bit dark and not well-​kept. That didn’t bother me at first because I was hoping for some good bites but once I ordered my food my impression did not change. I ordered a grilled cheese Sammy and a fresh hot donut. The sandwich was not quite melted inside and a little greasy. The donut was somewhat fresh and light but not like the similar competitors in the area.
I may have to give this one another try on another day when possibly different staff are on duty. The ones I had didn’t seem to care about the quality of what they were serving.

Visiting the Va Beach area for our summer vacation and were in the mood for a «non-​frog» ice cream treat and happened upon this little gem! We had the donut sundaes and they were amazing! The donuts are made to order, fresh and warm with a giant scoop of ice cream on top! There are also options for regular food, sandwiches, etc but why even bother when you can get ice cream on a donut??? We will definitely be coming back to visit again!
**the only down side at all, if you can call it that, is that this little place is tucked away in a small strip mall with limited seating. The staff are extremely nice and helpful and will assist in filling out your order form.

This place is special! You can watch your order being made right in front of you! The doughnuts are absolutely delicious they are deceptively filling so if you think you want six donuts you should probably order three LOL

Deeeeeeeeeliciois! Critically, if you name your company Mad Great Donuts you better live up to the name. This area WAY surpassed mad great. More like very outstandingly surprisingly perfect. Everything I Have had has been nothing short of delicious and the place itself is really adorable also!

We had breakfast sandwiches on a donut! What?! Yeah, that just happened. I need to go back and get the donut Sunday. It takes a little time to get your order but they are making everything on the spot. New favorite place to get fat pills.

I don’t do donuts often but I have to say they were very good! They were made fresh so that’s always good; soft and doughy with a slight crisp on the outside. We had chocolate w/​bacon, maple bacon, peanut butter, peanut butter and jelly, and strawberry. ½ dozen for less than $ 10 too! Staff was friendly and service was good. I’ll def be back to try more flavors

Moving to the Red MIll area of Virginia Beach is going to be the death of me… all because Crazy Good Donuts & Ice Cream exists less than 2 miles from me! Who doesn’t love made-​to-​order donuts? Who doesn’t love hot donuts? Who doesn’t love a delicious hot donut with scoops of creamy ice cream piled on top with whipped cream and a cherry? If you don’t love any of those, then you are not right. There are so many options to choose from when it comes from donuts flavors, you might lose your mind. But just take your time and explore your options because you won’t be disappointed. AND — you can order donuts from Order Up!!! You should definitely try this place out if you are in the area.

The owner was super nice, the service prompt, and the food was amazing!!! I loved the build your own breakfast sandwich and grill cheese and the donuts were awesome. They cooked our sandwiches and donuts from scratch, nothing pre-​made. Will be back, especially for the maple bacon donut, so yummy!!!

First things first this is knock off of Duck doughnuts. The main difference they have ice cream and a other things to eat.
I’m kinda torn on this place and I’m not sure why. My wife ordered an ice cream cone and I had a Doughnut Sunday! (Yes I said Doughnut Sunday) They were both really good and reasonably priced.
The staff was friendly, I guess. One welcomed us and took our order while the other didn’t acknowledge us the whole time we were in the building. (We were only customers there) After we got our stuff they both disappeared in the back for probably 10 – 15 minutes and I mean NO sign of them. We couldn’t toss out stuff in the trash because the can was overflowing. We walked out and still no sign of them. I could have walked out with anything.
I’ll probably give it one more try.

I go to donut shops to find things that you cannot find in most places… but to my taste buds, this is the same as most in the area. Part of me wonders if there’s really more to the world of donuts. Maybe I’m dreaming of something that will never be achieved in the frosted/​glazed/​filled world of cakery. The ones I did have were tasty but I still felt empty inside once they disappeared within seconds. The lifespan of a donut being placed in front of me is extremely short. To wash it down, a coffee was used but I understand it’s not «crazy» coffee, which a given when it’s not in your name. Maybe I’m crazy for not thinking these donuts aren’t all that crazy though. Maybe, in the end, they’re just confused donuts… just looking for homes.

To be honest, these babies came out all nice and warm in a little rectangular box. I didn’t grab utensils because I thought my hands would do the trick. I snagged a Strawberry Cheesecake creation along with a Peanutbutter and Chocolate one. They were nice and crisp on the outside, hard to handle with your hands, but pretty good once they make their way to their future home. Most places make me feel like a sloth when I come out the door but these weren’t heavy at all. I was pleasantly enlightened by a strange feeling as if I didn’t do my body any damage and that I should actually get more! But, alas… I did not do such a thing. I do know one thing… there are needy donuts in there that are looking for homes. How about you help them out as well! ;)

Yummy fluffy goodness with a most wonderfully awesome crispy edge is the best way I can describe their vanilla cake donuts. My daughter and I came here to splurge before a most intense workout week. I ordered a ½ dozen and selected 2 for myself. I chose the specialty donuts (strawberry cheesecake and chocolate covered with m&ms). The other four were for my daughter and sons.
When we arrived to the shop, we were very lucky to not have to wait in a line. As soon as we approached the register, several other patrons came in behind us. The shop wasn’t too crowded. There were three tables with young couples and their children and a couple bikers waiting on their order. Everyone was smiling and laughing. The staff was friendly and the manager (I believe he was the manager) was very cordial. When I placed my order with him, he asked me if I’d like to have coffee with my donuts. I decided not to get the coffee but the ice cream flavors that I noticed on the wall looked appealing. I decided not to go overboard with my splurge, so I stuck with the donuts only. I’m sure I’ll return for the ice cream based on all of the positive reviews.
While waiting for our donuts, my daughter and I stood and watched the staff prepare the other orders. They all seemed to be in a pretty good mood and appeared to enjoy their jobs. The atmosphere was certainly very positive and upbeat. We waited for less than 10 minutes. Our donuts were warm and perfectly delicious. I was very pleased with my experience here and I will be back.

I have to be all in for Crazy, as a matter of fact I would be crazy not to. This is my third time visiting and all have been fantastic. Each time I had donuts, so I really need to try the ice-​cream on my next go around, or maybe a breakfast sammy.
The location is nothing to write home about unless you live out in the Red Mill, Pungo, Oceana Naval Base. If you do then this should be your jam that your hanging at regularly. If not, try to make the effort to get over, it’s worth.
Directions to can be confusing on the GPS. Look for the Target, its in the same lot, but across the way in a small strip with Schlotzky’s. Upon pulling up I found plenty of parking. The lot and sidewalks were clear of debris. The signage is excellent and they are directly in the middle of the strip.
So once you enter you will see a menu board and table to write down what you would like. Take that to the register to let the magic of making your hot custom made doughnut creation begin. They do have upgrades on specialty doughnuts that will run you a mere 25 cents more. They also have more than just donuts. Breakfast sandwiches are also offered. However, the fact that they have ice-​cream sets them apart from other local shops.
I met one of the owners Blakely at the register. My have dozen specialities + 1 regular to eat in ran a little over $ 10 without discounts. They do have a buy 12 get the 13^th for FREE! The checkout was smooth and a staffer name Nicole got started on making them immediately. The staff was super friendly and made me feel comfortable for my dine in experience.
There was no crowd on a mid morning weekday visit. The joint has a nice family vibe to it. There are around a half dozen tables to enjoy your treats in. Coffee is self serve by the checkout. The eating area was spic & span. They do have a large chalk board in the rear hall for the kids to have some fun. Restrooms are also in the rear and I found them to be tidy with proper supplies.
The kids will enjoy watching their donuts being made through the clear plexiglass. The manner is identical from what I can tell to Duck and O’s. The other owner Dan and I discussed on my first visit differences. He declared the process may be the same, but he believed their product was superior.
On my previous time stopping in and this visit I matched up one of my faves, the Maple Bacon for comparison. For me it was too close to call Duck vs. Crazy, both excellent with lots of icing and bacon. However, some selections are different and unique to Crazy and don’t forget they have the bonus of serving ice-​cream which I must try soon.
I cracked the box open to try the strawberry cheesecake hot and it was super. The rest would go home for the kids as a surprise. That evening the kids really enjoyed. Favorites were the M&M, Oreo and Bliss. I thought the Milk & Cookies was my favorite. It was recommended by the staff to refrigerate if not eating in the same day, then slightly microwave to warm up. I decided to put the box immediately in the frig and I did microwave for 11 seconds which seemed to be spot on with no icing melting in the process. I must say I thought they were every bit as good as when dining in.
I have been stingy on my 5 STARS lately, but I’m giving it up. This is a fantastic shop that delivered on both great product and service. It’s also a clean operation which is important to me. One visit will not be enough no matter where you live in the area.

Got done at Lulu’s and I’m always looking for some sort of cold vanilla dessert afterward. The ice cream chain around the corner just won’t do. Never heard of this donut shop, but if it serves donuts AND ice cream, clearly there is something happening here I need to see.
Walked in, and the order process appeared more complicated than I wanted to budget time for, so I almost left had it not been for how crazy nice the young lady was from the cashier’s post. There were too many «special» signs, fillable papers (like sushi menus) and pens and just too many options and my brain just doesn’t want that. Just give me a goddam fresh donut with ice cream and smashed cookies on top and I’m good. Actually, that’s what she offered, and that’s what I got with no paperwork!
What a dessert and only $ 4!!! Best part was the fresh, warm, maple donut on the bottom. Turned out all the ice cream did was get in the way. Didn’t need it. Good donut.
4 stars because it was Crazy Good but not quite Certifiably Insanely Good.

We had visitors so we tried a dozen Crazy Good Doughnuts.
Overall we would rate this place a 3.5, good but not great. First of all it is a unique concept to build your doughnuts. The cake part of the doughnuts was fresh and tasty, but we felt some of the flavors were just lacking; without looking, barely being able to distinguish between maple, chocolate or vanilla. Same goes for the bacon; normally bacon is overpowering but the bacon on the doughnuts lacked flavor intensity.
Would we go back? Probably not since why waste the calories on so-​so doughnuts?

Meh. Crazy good? I’d say for the price it’s above average. Someone else posted about the donuts being too greasy and I’d agree. While the workers are very friendly and quick with making the donuts, where they come up short is the product itself.
I feel that Duck Donuts gives you a heftier donut, more dough-​y, for the same price. Maybe I visited on an off day, but I’m just not feeling the hype. I’d be willing to give them another try in the future because I see this place has potential.

Yummy Amazing donuts! On the whim stopped by to see what is was about. There were no other customers so was a little weary about the place.
The nice lady explained how it all work. The donut had a crispy outside and soft inside. It just melt in your mouth! Ordering is simple… Cooked to order Vanilla donut:
1. Pick a glaze such as chocolate, vanilla, maple, etc. etc. or keep it plain
2. Add toppings like coconut flakes, sprinkles, etc. etc
3. Enjoy eat and be Merry!
There’s daily specials like Donut Sunday and even have breakfast sandwiches.
Jeeesh…there goes my diet!

Just tried this place for the first time about an hour ago. I have to say that the doughnuts are delicious!!! We got mostly specialty doughnuts, but my favorite by far was the maple bacon doughnut. Do yourself a favor and GO GET ONE! It’s delicious. My husband has a lifelong addiction to Reese’s peanut butter cups, so he really enjoyed the peanut butter lovers specialty doughnut.
The staff was extremely friendly, I think some of the other reviewers must’ve gone on an off day, or it might just depend on which employees are there, but the two ladies we got to help us were very friendly!
I love that this is a local place. It’s very clean and the décor is cute! My family and I will definitely be returning to try the ice cream and other goodies on the menu.

Another fellow Unilocaler suggested Crazy Good Donuts and Ice Cream when my friend and I were craving ice cream. The donuts just happened to be a plus for us!
Like everyone else says, the ordering system is identical to Duck Donuts. You get an order sheet and check off what you want. Their flavors were similar to that of Duck Donuts as well. They have a good choice of ice cream flavors and seasonal flavors as well. They also have breakfast sandwiches as well. They didn’t have a space for the donut sundae, so I just went up to the cashier to order it. I got a glazed donut with chocolate chip ice cream on top. It came with whipped cream and a cherry on top. They asked me if I wanted it on there, which was appreciated. My friend ordered the chocolate peanut butter ice cream with rainbow sprinkles in a waffle cone.
The donuts were fresh made and smelled so good. Our orders came out fairly quickly. It was a little warm in the store, and it melted really quickly. That being said, it didn’t bother us too quickly since we scarfed down our ice cream. The donut with the ice cream was a perfect combo. SUPER filling, but I was so happy. The warm donut with the cold ice cream was exactly what I was looking for. My friend was happy with her ice cream! If Crazy Good Donuts and Ice Cream wasn’t so far away, I would be here more often. I highly recommend this place if you’re in the mood for something sweet!

It’s nice to see donut shops that aren’t the ones that run America. This is another of the ones that are one or two-​off shops and I’m a fan. The gals who took my order and filled it were polite and efficient and seemed sincerely happy to have the business this early in the morning.
I got a large coffee, a breakfast sandwich and just one donut. The coffee was excellent and the simple glazed donut was also excellent. The sandwich, which was more like a bagel panini with cheese egg and ham was fair rather than excellent. No worries, this is a donut shop and not a bagel shop.
I’d absolutely return. Their ordering system is simple and I think it ensures accuracy. Especially since the donuts are prepared to order rather than grabbed from a tray. Yum.

Ok I have been here a bunch of times. The short is this, it is a locally owned business which hires young folks to work. The donuts are vey good and when you go there the owner is always cheerful and friendly (can you be cheerful and not friendly?) the donuts are always great and my family loves it! You go in and sign a sheet that lays out which donuts you want. The old fashioned are my favorites, but can get it with all the right toppings, my family likes cinnamon sugar and the black and white.
My only complaint is that the coffee stirrers are not tall enough for the lahge coffee (said with a Baston accent). Also could use half and half in a canister vice the packets. Other than that all smiles and local owned goodness. Do yourself a favor and gooooooooo.
