I went into Birdland and actually met the owner, who was pretty nice and helpful. Then I called back to ask him a quick question and some women answered. She said he wasn’t in and hung up. She made no attempt to ask if I needed anything or answer my question. Talk about bad customer service.

Amazing selection of new and used vinyl. Barry, who I believe is one of the owners, was super helpful. Couldn’t be run by a nicer guy. Definitely worth checking out. Plan on spending an hour or longer browsing this gem.

Wow. I came in here while on vacation and I’m glad I did. On first look after walking in, I wasn’t sure my stop would amount to much… then I left with at least 15 used CDs. GREAT used CD selection. A ton of new releases — everything was the same price, and there was a deal that was something like buy 3 get 1 free. Either way — the prices couldn’t be beat for used CDs. Great, interesting selection. Large used vinyl selection. Some new, too, but limited. Plan to spend time here to look. Also appreciated the customer service. The owner was extremely friendly. My daughter needed to use the restroom and he let her use his private bathroom. Also gave her some candy! Great service, great selection — would definitely come back here if we are in town again.

Enjoy the«dig!» There isn’t much organization to the offerings here but the personable owner and the opportunity to «happen» upon something you’re looking for is priceless. A cool, retro music store.

I hope this place never goes away!!! So hard these days to find a true independent music store in general, and to have one ran by people who truly care about the music and not about the scene. When places like Relative Theory or that other place that was at Hilltop and Greenbriar were around, they just didnt have it, and in todays economy, with constant demands and competition from technology, Birdland is still here and going strong. Dont expect to find any great band apparel, or posters or anything in that category for that matter. But you can find a hell of a vinyl record.

One of the best independent record shops in Hampton roads! This place is a gem. They have a great selection and their prices are great! New, used vinyl, CD’s, DVDs cassettes, they have it all! The staff is incredibly helpful and are always willing to help you out and give you some ideas for new music to find. If your looking for that one album they will find it for you. Even if it’s not in the store, they have access to other collections and will do their absolute best to meet your needs! My highest recommendation for music lovers!

With the modern age upon us, I never thought I would ever step in one of these stores again. Seriously, when was the last time I even bothered to buy a CD?! Well with a day off and spending some QT with my besties, we decided to check this place out. One of my friends just got a record player for Christmas. She needed to add to her record collection and wanted to check out a place other than a thrift store for some good music. Walk inside and you’ll see the place is completely devoted to music. There are 3 guys that run this place and you can see that they love what they do. One of the guys saw us looking around and told us how their store works. They’ve got a ton of vinyl records. There’s some with orange stickers on them to mean they’re new to the store. The store changes out their records every couple weeks to keep a fresh selection for those continuing to hunt for good finds. The new stuff is $ 7.99, while the ones in the milk crates are $ 2.99. Being the broke students that we are, we headed straight to the milk crates. My friend got some cool records of Louis Armstrong and found some from classic movies like«My Fair Lady.» Look around even more and they’ve got new vinyls like Lady Gaga, etc. and collectible ones as well. It’s fun to look through the covers and see the styles from back in the day. I’m definitely gonna tag along for the next trip here.

These guys rock. They know what they are doing and they were able to get us so many cool cd’s and albums that we were looking for! The best place in town for records and cd’s! Oh plus they got us a record player to play our new records on. They are seriously cool dudes!

Yeah, walking in to Birdland to me is like walking into a little room inside my soul. I used to spend so much time in little record/CD shops like this one, rhythmically flipping through row after row of music and having to hold myself to one or two choice purchases. I know it can’t be easy for places like Birdland to survive. There are a few record stores left in the area, including Skinnies and Fantasy. Birdland moved about a year and a half ago – but not far. You can throw a rock from the old location to the new one, still in Providence Square Shopping Center in VB. They no longer sell concert tickets(which they did for years), but they’ve still got a lot of CDs, posters, used vinyl and the like.

Groovy is the first thought in my head as I walk through the door at Birdland Music. Autographed Beatles, Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan posters line the walls and there are stacks of vinyl records and wait – what’s that? An ancient CD? No, my friend, it’s a tape! For those of you too young to remember, cassette tapes were the precursor to our modern compact disks. Shocking, yes, I know. While Birdland still carries all your new favorite artists(or annoyances depending on your musical taste) such as Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne, this store is mostly known for classic and hard to find music. Named for blues man, Charles«the Bird» Parker, Birdland specializes in hard to find jazz, blues and classic rock artists. The true music lover could spend days sifting through the treasures in this store and this music lover recommends that you do.

Only been here once but it was great. I was picking up birthday gifts and need an ecletic pool to chose from. Birdland has a good selection of rock, indie, alternative. They also have smaller selections of folk, bluegrass and LP’s. The clerk, whom I’m assuming owns the place, was great. He has a board of all the upcoming shows in Hampton Roads and will suggest other music you may like based on what you’re buying.
