History

Established in 1985.

When a local Christian ministry closed the doors to its automotive repair shop, provided for its employees, two of the shop’s technicians decided that a shop with integrity and Christian servanthood in mind was simply too important to see disappear from the area. They branched out on their own, and formed Able Auto Service located off of Military Highway on English Avenue in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

In 1985, Roy Jordan joined the Able Auto team as a technician with many years of experience, after relocating into the Virginia Beach area. Roy became a part-​owner in 1987 and later became the sole owner. In 1993, Able Auto moved from English Avenue to it’s new property and current location at 736 South Military Highway, in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

In 2004, Roy retired as Roy’s son, Jeff, took the reigns of the business. Roy’s wife, Sandra, continues to work full time in the office, but Jeff carries on the tradition of quality auto care in Hampton Roads.

Jeff grew up at Able Auto and learned a great deal of what he knows about the industry and running a small business from his father, Roy Jordan. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics from Oklahoma State University, Jeff spent four years as a design engineer for Caterpillar, Inc. A love of water and the desire to raise his son, Ethan, near family brought Jeff and his wife, Angela, back to the east coast in 2004. They added to the family in 2006 with a son, Tyler. Jeff would be the first to admit that it was an easy decision, but one of the most challenging of his life. To keep up with trends and the ever-​changing automotive industry, Jeff and his staff regularly attend automotive classes and conventions. He is active in many automotive forums and technical sites. Jeff enjoys fishing, RC Car racing, kayaking, and spending time with his family.
