I have been in the Green Room on many occasions. I have never once been greeted or even acknowledged when I walked into the store. I gave it another chance yesterday because I was doing some holiday shopping. I thought perhaps because it is the«season to be merry» that I would at least get a Hello. Well, once again I was ignored when I walked in and while I shopped. I was so disappointed and that is a deal breaker for me. That is not the case with the other lovely and friendly stores on Main Street. I will never return to the Green Room.

Main Street in Vineyard Haven is lovely. All the shops and restaurants and home stores. As you move down Main St. you come to The Green Room. My husband was looking for rain boots. Their selection was huge and the sales people were very knowledgable. We looked at Hunter boots, some great hats and have a new store for regular visits!

Two points: 1. Women’s clothing and shoes: when I look in my closet, all my favorite things came from here. Some were because I forgot to pack right, or vacation impulse buys, but the stock is so beautifully curated, I feel like anything that makes the cut to get in here is going to be a winner. 2. Skate and surf: my kids skateboard and I have no idea how to outfit them. The staff downstairs is remarkably patient and helpful fitting helmets, showing kids how to replace their own wheels and ball bearings, alignment, picking stickers, the whole deal. They’re such hipsters down there, you might think they’d be all attitude, but no — they go out of their way to help.

Full array of surf, skate, beach and from-the-beach wear. It’s like a PacSun for adults! Unlike that sun bum mecca of everymall, there’s some good quality ish covering the two floors of TGR. Smith polarized shades, OluKai sandals and deck shoes at 50% off web prices(assuming it’s last year’s fleet for feet?) and a barrage of boards of the knee and surf variety, along with staff experts in sizing, strapping and stabilizing your next aquatic addiction. The girl landed some sweet sun wear and a pair of kicks, and I dropped the ball on picking up my OluKais, but it’s easy to pop back in being centrally located in Vineyard Haven’s downtown stretch. On a budget? Outlet items are scattered along the rear of the store and in a designated spot on the downstairs level. Save ten, brah!

The Green Room started out life as a shop for surfers and skate boarders, the best place on the island for anything related to gear, clothes and the latest buzz. When they moved from their original location to a bigger and better one on Main Street, they added clothes, accessories, shoes and some cosmetics so the rest of us could indulge in their good taste. Upstairs are the fashions. Downstairs are the more hard core, sports related items. We love their clothes and shoes and we have found The Green Room to be a consistent favorite over the years. On a small island with not much to offer in the way of fashion, The Green Room always has a stylish, fun atmosphere for shoppers. Moms, dads and teenagers will all be happy in here. They are open year round which is a MAJOR bonus for those of us who hang out on the island in February and March, and their prices are not as bad as you’d think.(Remember, this is the Vineyard…) They also have good sales. Thanks to The Green Room, we are not destined to wear Black Dog t-shirts, ribbon belts and pink pants all year long. And our skate boarding teens can be happy and safe with their great gear. And we can have some decent underwear, party dresses, winter boots and warm coats. Every island needs a cool place like this.

having been to quite a few surf shops, i would like to think that i can basically walk right in, and know where everything is… and this is the case with the green room. The surf and skate section is downstairs, and though there is a quite limited selection of surfboards, the apparel selection is impressive, and the prices are to be expected. the atmosphere is great, and the sales staff is friendly and very helpful. the location, in vineyard haven, is terrific for a quick swing through in between shopping and a quick bite.

After spending hours and hours looking around Vineyard Haven for a clothing store with some panache(I thought madras and grosgrain went the way of the Studebaker).. . we found it! The sales staff was very nice, patient and approachable. Oh yeah, they are also cool.
