The Jazz Workshop provides top-​notch professional instruction in the art of playing jazz. Students learn and perform together in small groups, building skills that prepare them to confidently join any jam session or gig.

History

Established in 2007.

We have been in operation since 2007. Initially sharing space with a local lesson studio, we have now moved into our own space and are excited to offer a unique learning experience to jazz musicians and students in Northern Virginia. In 2009, we began offering a dedicated program for jazz vocalists as well.

We will continue to be a focal point for real jazz in the Washington DC area, and a safe haven for those looking to improve their skills as jazz musicians.

Meet the Business Owner

Paul P.

Business Owner

Paul Pieper is an award winning multi-​instrumentalist with over 20 years of experience as a full time jazz musician and teacher in the Washington DC area. From local performances at Blues Alley, The Smithsonian Imax Jazz Café, and other venues, to gigs abroad in Japan, Russia, Ecuador, Turkey, and even Kyrgyzstan, Paul’s performance credentials are extensive.

Says Paul, «I believe that anyone can improvise, whether they know it or not — and helping people discover and develop that talent is what I love most as a teacher.»
