Shangri-La Day Spa

Strange experience.
Booked a 90 minute couples massage on a Sunday for my wife and I. Spoke to Tony on the phone who provided great customer experience. Even followed up a few days before to remind me. But then got a text the day before saying they’ve moved across the street and changed their name to White Rose Salon and Spa. No big deal, businesses change all the time.
Show up for our 10:30 am appointment, the woman behind the desk looked confused. Excused herself to call Tony. Comes back into the room and hands me the phone. Tony says he confirmed with her a few days prior, but she now claims that didn’t happen. He apologizes and says he’ll make it up at a later date. We get off the phone, at which point the woman decides to tell us she can take us at 11:30. Not sure why she didn’t mention before but ok.
We come back at 11:30. A second woman is there, she too is surprised to see us. We tell her why we’re here. She disappears for a second, comes back and brings us into the room. Very nice ambience. They both come in and ask us which one wants deep tissue. We both did, but I guess that’s not an option.
Wife asks to focus on the hip. Massuse says «Back?». Wife says «No, hip.». Massuse says «Back?». Wife says «Whatever.». (That parts kind of funny retelling it now).
During massage a phone rings IN THE MASSAGE ROOM. My massuse stops the massage for a few minutes while she answers. Apologizes. A few minutes later the front door bell rings. She stops again to go out and tend to a new customer. Comes back in, again apologizes.
Massage ends. Mine felt pretty good. My wife says the massuse never really touched her hip, and didn’t really dig in at all. We get dressed and go out, only to see it had only been 60 minutes, not the 90 minutes we scheduled.
SHE THEN ASKS ME how much I was told the massage would be. I tell her. I pay. She then asks me to call her next time I want a massage, not Tony.
Weird. Unprofessional. Mediocre massage.

how do I start first the reason I came was because of groupon; found the place was surprise on where it is located went in it was very homely feeling and then was greet by I think the owner didn’t know any of the name! I feel bad but the massage was wonderful help me stretch out my muscle and relief my stressful week my husband loves it though he almost felt off the bed because the massage lady was that strong! but the downside is if only they can communicate in English it was hard to understand and they were talking in Chinese the whole time, but it was a great relaxation and keep in mind to tips is 20% and they don’t really like the fact I used groupon but it’s okay. would recommend but wouldn’t revisit too often

No frills but don’t be deterred-​I had an amazing massage and they took us in the same day we called. Huge plus is that they are open until 9:30 (at least Saturdays) Prices are pretty good and it’s close to us so we’ll be going back! My masseuse took in what I asked for and tailored my massage to work on my problems. Highly recommend!

Busy. The place is in the back of a building and there isn’t really a place to sit in the reception area but you totally get worth your money with the massage.

After coming here due to a living social deal, I’ve continued to come back. The owner and the staff are always so accommodating, the prices are great and the massages are worth every penny. The good news is that you don’t spend many pennies because the massages are reasonably priced.

Came in a second time for a couples massage and I can not stress how ecstatic I was to see that the professionalism and the customer service was the same (and not just because I had been a new client, which most places do.) One of the most important things about a massage is getting exactly what you want and this place knows exactly how to deliver it. Stressed? Muscle tension? Massage enthusiast? Look no further, this is the place to go!

I easily booked a couples massage only one day in advance. My wife and I drove out to Vienna from D.C. (30 minutes) on a Saturday morning for the one-​hour session. A friendly staff welcomed us to the clean and soothing spa. We shared a room in which I received a deep-​tissue massage, and my wife opted for a light touch. We both enjoyed the hot stone massage at no extra charge. The deep tissue and hot stones were painful but well worth it. I left feeling like a bowl of Jell-​O, super relaxed and tension-​free. The massage also relieved my wife’s pain from the veins in her legs (at least for a week).
Shangri-​La is not affiliated with the Shangri-​La in Washington D.C., but they honored the $ 99 Amazon «deal of the day.» I was dually impressed with the service and tipped each masseuse $ 20. We enjoyed the Vienna town center afterwards and had lunch near the village green. I can’t say enough good things about Shangri-​La. I highly recommend their services!

My wife and I came in for the first time in response to a Living Social deal. This place is easy to drive by as it’s located on the back side of an office building next to Vienna Wolf Trap Motel.
Once inside, the waiting room is small (3 people fit, tops) but very well decorated. Complimentary tea and TV help you wait out the time ’til your massage.
Our masseuses were AWESOME! Mine was Chinese, my wife’s was Korean– both had muscles hidden beneath their petite exterior Hulk Hogan would covet. Both were energetic and conversational (at our request, of course!) and made our time their very enjoyable. Both listened to our concerns about which muscles were tight and adjusted the technique to address the issues. The facilities are very clean and everything is done professionally. Some of the staff have thick accents– if you’re not accustomed to it, comprehension can be difficult. Be patient; their skill is worth it!
We’re already planning our return visits and will happily come back time and time again. Thanks for everything, Shangri-​La!

I was here last weekend for the 2^nd time. The spa is at the back of the building. The place is small, but the rooms are very well kept and clean. Jessie was my therapist both times. I’ve had a lot of knots in my back and had pain there. She did an absolutely amazing job getting those knots out. She recommended trying the hot stones (which I never had before) and it was surprisingly very soothing for my back. I felt great after my massage and I think I have found my new go to place and therapist for massages as long as they can keep the hour long massages at $ 50. I would highly recommend trying this spa.

The massage by Anna was very good. I had a full body hour long massage. As I requested, she used firm pressure consistently throughout and her technique was very relaxing to loosen my tensed muscles. The staff was friendly and the facility was clean and comfortable. Scheduling was not an issue for me and the cost was very reasonable. I intend to return again.

The massage its self was excellent, but otherwise, the experience was incredibly unprofessional. Shangri-​la is located in the basement of an office park, and the first thing you see on the door is a giant sign that says, basically, it’s not going to give any happy endings, which immediately led me to believe it would.
But that aside, you need to ring a doorbell to get in. You can hear the doorbell from the massage rooms, and it’s very distracting. The waiting area is teeny tiny, and the woman at the front desk hardly spoke any english and just kept shoving a clipboard in my face. When I gave her back the pen, she just rudely pointed to a pen cup. But, this is just the minor stuff. What really irked me about this place is that this was a couple’s massage, and for the first five minutes or so, and then periodically throughout the massage, the two women were having a conversation. It was not in English, so I don’t know if they were talking about work, but, it was incredibly distracting and detracted from the experience. Then, my masseuse actually LEFT THE ROOM three times during my massage, each time for 30 seconds to about two minutes, and I didn’t get that time added back to massage. Also, when I looked up at two separate points during my massage (when the masseuse was getting hot stones) the door to the room was OPEN. I’m naked in there, that’s just not right. These things make me not want to return.
Oh, and that’s not to mention the booking experience. When I called to make an appointment, I got the owner’s personal cell phone. Since he wasn’t in the office, he said he’d call me back to schedule an appointment. Of course he never did. When I called back I was able to get one for the day and time I wanted, but the next day I got a call asking me to reschedule. None of this was the end of the world, but I do think it speaks to the professionalism.
However, I still gave three stars because the massage its self was good. I need a lot of pressure to get the knots out, and my masseuse delivered.

Thank you to the owner/​front desk manager for the follow-​up comments. I was not asked how my massage was before leaving — my husband settled up the bill/​tips on our behalf and I don’t believe he mentioned our disappointment. Even still, it would still be after the fact and the disappointment would remain for an unsatisfactory experience. The reviewer by Dianne M. on ²⁄₃ described a similar experience of disappointment with not receiving hot stones (any in her case) while there for a couples hot stone massage so I doubt this is the first time. Thanks for the offer to return but I doubt we’ll make the trip back to VA to partake.

Came here for valentine’s day. Great prices. Very clean and comfortable. Got a couples massage. I believe Abby took care of my bf. She did a fantastic job and really knew what she was doing. Very knowledgeable and got a lot of his knots out.
Wasn’t sure about the name of the lady that massaged me, but she did a great job. My first masssage ever so I might be biased (how could massage ever NOT feel relaxing?) but it was spectacular. We both got a full body deep tissue massage. Hot rocks as well. I Def recommend the hot rocks. It feels like hot oil is running down your back.
I would absolutely recommend them. There are Groupon online. Great deal. Great service. They even gave us a wonderful gift basket for Valentine’s day!

I bought a massage here from either Groupon or Living Social. I was impressed that I could get an appointment on the same day I called (usually I’ve found I need to plan up to 2 weeks in advance.) The massage therapist was ready for me right away. When she started the massage, she asked if the pressure was okay, and made it clear I could ask her to adjust it anytime. She supplemented the massage with some body stretches, so it was a bit of a combination of Thai and deep tissue. I left feeling very relaxed. I would be happy to return here.

Had a couples hot stone massage on January 31^st through a LivingSocial Voucher. While the massage was average, it was not the hot stone. I’ve had a hot stone massage before and the stones are usually applied near the end. I kept waiting and at 35 mins in to the session I asked about the the stones and the ladies knew nothing about it. It was too late at this point. Said to speak to manager. The cd player in the room kept skipping and I couldn’t relax from being distracted by the irritating sound.
This was a special gift for my boyfriend’s birthday and I wanted him to experience the stones. So disappointed.
The manager did nothing to explain about the mixup and offered the hot stones on our next visit. I indicated that offer assumed we would be back and I had no intention of returning for another disappointing experience. He did not apologize or offer any reimbursement.
As this was a LS deal I left with the feeling it was just a scam and they intentionally did not provide the purchased package in order to get us to come back.
I will not be returning and advise others to avoid these packages.
The waiting room is not relaxing at all and there is no «spa» feeling at all at this place. First spa I’ve ever been with a big warning on the front door that sexual solicitation is prohibited. Quite distasteful.

Ana was the best! Deep tissue massage was so necessary! So attentive to what my body needed. From head to toes every muscle was massaged. She kept me relaxed yet really focused on working out the knots in my back and neck. Tony at the front was so friendly and helpful with directions! This spa is truly a hidden gem. Highly recommended. I’ll be coming back twice a month!

Motivated by a promotional Web special, newly opened place, easy to park, clean and quiet, great facilities and very personable staff. Massage was very good for a first visit and great value at the $ 60 rate. I will return.
