Dr. Johnson saw me within 2 hours of my regular dentist referring me to him. While no root canal is pleasant, he was very considerate in keeping any pain to a minimum. Despite being cautioned that pain might persist for a while after the novacaine wore off, I found that I was virtually pain free within two hours after leaving his office. Based on my experience, I would recommend Dr. Johnson to anyone needing a root canal.

I can’t understand why anyone recommends this guy. He did a root canal on me years ago and it stills gives me problems. I went back to him twice and he was arrogant and dismissive. I complained to my regular dentist who referred me to him. They said they have had other complaints and stopped sending patients to him.

Dr. Johnson redid a root canal for me three years ago, after it was botched twice by my regular dentist who tried to cover up a mistake leaving me in a lot of pain.
I researched Dr. Johnson on-​line and picked him because he was voted top endodontist by his peers in Washingtonian and Nother Virginia magazines several years in a row (!).
Had to wait a little longer than I liked every visit, hence the 4 stars, but his staff was very nice to me and I see absolutely nothing wrong with his office, his equipment, or the manners of his staff. More importantly, my procedures were painless and thorough (but not quick). It was a lot of work to clean the now infected root my regular dentist missed twice.
I would definitely return to him again and wholeheartedly recommend him. Haven’t had a problem with that molar since Dr. Johnson treated it, and have been pain-​free for 3+ years now. Since moved to New York, but I would drive back to DC if the need arose in a heartbeat.
PS I don’t understand the review left by Mr. S. He must be speaking of a different office and doctor or has an agenda. A jealous competitor perhaps?

I went to Gary Johnson for a root canal. I was a little put off by his manner but he had been recommended by my regular dentist. Dr. Johnson assured me that my pain and discomfort would cease after my root canal. I experienced much irritation and discomfort for weeks after the procedure. I went back to Dr, Johnson and he was dismissive. Then he contradicted himself and said a root canal does not stop pain and discomfort. I complained to my dentist who said there had been other complaints regarding Dr. Johnson and their practice would no longer refer people to him. Several years have passed and the root canal still bothers me.
