The «hair whisper» is what her clients called her. She is such an amazing and talented hairdresser. I am Asian with a bright red hair which typically fade quickly but that isn’t the case. My color stays for a good 5 weeks (minus the roots). Her haircut still looks good after 6 — 8 weeks and she is way cheaper than the rest of Tyson hairdresser. If you look for a stylist that has great personality and awesome stylist, look no further.

Glamour and Grunge is a wonderful little studio! I love it! I have been seeing Joy for years now. She is not only an excellent hair stylist, but also she’s got a great personality, which makes the experience so much more worthwhile and wonderful! I am one of those girls that likes to get her hair permed in long beach waves, and not a lot of stylists I have gone to in the past can perfect my perm in the way Joy can. She also is amazing with color, that is her specialty! She loves to add bits of perfect blonde to my waves. She’s an awesome person and I highly recommend her. She gets booked for weeks to months in advance so book your appt ahead of time!

Joy is amazing!!! I love her cuts I had super long hair and wanted to change the look without loosing the length. She did such a beautiful job. I trusted her so much I went back 6 months later and took off 6 inches off never been happier.

Joy was recommended to me by a top fashion stylist and I came to her with a serious hair crisis! I didn’t think anyone could fix my hair and I even contemplated shaving it all off.
Joy was optimistic and patient and spent an extra 2 hours of her time and miraculously fixed my problem. I am so excited to go back to her in the near future because she inspired me to have an exquisite new style that she selected.
My husband was at the salon and is also inspired to have Joy style his new look.

Started going to Joy maybe 3 or 4 years ago… a while ago. I found her on Unilocal when she was at another studio and my search for «the» hair stylist was done. She knew exactly what I wanted and how to cut it. I would constantly get compliments on my hair and every time it grew out, it would still look amazing. We have become great friends and I love how easy it is to chat with her while she does my hair! I loved her so much I ended up hiring her to do my wedding hair!
About a few months ago, life got super busy. Like, couldn’t leave the house in the evenings kind of busy so I had to stop going to Joy because I couldn’t make it to Tyson’s area after work. I tried out this new salon where I lived, went to the guy three times and said no way. He just did not have the skills like Joy does. I mean, the dude BUZZED the back of my hair. Who does that… to a woman?! Joy actually knows how to use scissors and a razor and just has crazy good skills. Thankfully, life is back to normal these days so I can make the trek out to Tyson’s — WORTH IT.
Highly recommend Joy. She is seriously the best out there. If your hair needs to be fixed or if you’re just looking for a new cut. you need to go to her. There’s no turning back ;)

I’ll tell you my story because hopefully you can find something to relate to in here.
I’ve had a hard time finding «my stylist» — I’ve bumped around a few here and there, generally leaving traumatized and vowing to grow out my hair like a mountain woman because even that would be better than THIS!!! I’m that melodramatic type.
Well, then I found Joy. I was at a flat, dull and frizzy moment in my life, and she was highly recommended by Unilocal reviews (like, twenty of them) at a salon she used to work at. When I first met her I knew she was the one that would be BOLD ENOUGH to give me an A LINE when I ASKED FOR IT! Praise the pink haired gods!
What I love about Joy and her cuts is that she is a stylish woman with a vision, and she will transfer that vision to your head, like an artist perhaps. We played around with some more daring cuts that stylists I’ve visited before have been too timid to execute. (When I ask for it, I want it! She gets this.) I’ve since gotten my hair cut four times by her.
She’s somehow able to incorporate what I see my head looking like with a quality, structured cut, so that even on the grow out months later, my hair looks fabulous, full of life, and like someone actually cares about it. A great cut can do that to you.
Outside of her expertise at what she does, she is a ball full of fire and energy, and half the time I wonder if I am paying for the cut or for an hour of the most ridiculously frank, hilarious practical stand-​up comedy routine that this woman is. She’s just tons of fun.
If you’re feeling dull and in need of a little inspiration, she is the one to visit. With a great haircut a girl can do miraculous things… so go ‘head. Treat yourself.
