The Refill Shoppe

I love it here. There are so many possibilities in regards to cleaning, health and beauty products with your own personal touch. You can bring your own container or they have plenty of shapes and sizes for you to purchase. Lots of essential oils too that you can buy by the ounce. Be sure to ask about the top shelf oils if you are looking for something unique just keep in mind that those are very pricey, which is why they don’t keep them out.

I came here as I read the reviews and as I live in Ventura thought this would be a good go to place for my oils.
Firstly I recommend bringing your own bottles, the ones they sell are super expensive. In fact all their equipment is on the pricey side.
I bought four 0.25ml bottles with oil. The oils ranged from $ 3 to $ 8 — they were not even rare or hard to find oils — just Lemon, Rosemary, Lavender and Eucalyptus. It was a pretty big shock when the bill came to over $ 40!!! (Bearing in mind that I could get a set of 3 doterra 10ml oils for $ 30). I also found the Lemon very weak as well as the Lavender. I diffuse lemon in water in the bathroom. My usual lemon oil would still smell the next few days when not being diffused but the lemon from here lasted a few hours and I could smell nothing in the unlit diffuser after at all.
The staff were very friendly though and seemed to be knowledgable.
I don’t think I will be returning as it is just too expensive and I am not really impressed with the quality of the oils. You should be able to ingest 100% EO’s and the the girl who served me said that none of the oils are digestible.

The Refill Shoppe is beyond amazing! I came across this little shop a few months ago, and I’ve been in love ever since.
Their lotions are great and their green clay mask is unbelievable. Their Vanilla+ face moisturizer is also phenomenal! I definitely recommend checking this little shop out.
Their product as are also cruelty free, meaning they don’t test their products on animals! The prices are reasonable too!

This place is about so much more than just refilling disposable containers as the name suggests. It’s all about natural versions of the otherwise chemical laden products we use in the house and on our bodies every day. Do yourself a favor and check it out!

My boyfriend and I contacted Michelle the owner through LinkedIn and Instagram. She got back to us right away today and was very apologetic and nice. She even threw in extra things for all our time that her employees wasted. I want to believe she’ll talk to her employees, but until I actually feel like going in again and trying it out I’ll leave 3 stars… Those girls were absolutely horrible.

Incredible eco-​friendly products! The staff is wonderful! Everything smells so good and they are saving the environment one bottle at a time!

Ok, my girlfriend loves this place. Me? Well, the staff is very pleasant and friendly. No complaints. At least they have seating for those of us waiting while our other half shop.

I am obsessed with this little shop! I love the whole concept behind it! I always get so excited after I leave to try my goodies at home! I’ve gotten my sister hooked on it as well… she lives in Oakland and says there is nothing like it up there; so every time she comes to visit she stocks up!

Took a short day trip with some friends to Ventura and it was love at first site with this store. I bought a green clay mask that I absolutely love! I love the natural products, the bring-​your-​own-​bottle… I could have spent HOURS and thousands of dollars here. Definitely a paradise for those who love natural, beauty products.

We didn’t even buy anything (we aren’t local. Just visiting) and i suggest this shop. Cute, friendly, and a great concept.

Let me start off by saying that I work in the cosmetics industry at a store similar to The Refill Shoppe, and I will continue to come back to this store every chance I have.
From the moment I entered The Refill Shoppe, my friend and I were greeted with warmth and kindness by the beautiful store owner, Michelle. We simply picked up a J.R. Liggett’s Shampoo Bar, and Michelle instantly joined our discussion on Sustainable Palm Oil. She was genuinely curious if the Palm Oil in the shampoo bar was sustainable, and she quickly went online to do research and get back to us with an answer within minutes (the website does not clarify if their Palm Oil is sustainable). WOW! No better customer care or service out there.
Next, we meandered our way through the beautifully laid out refillable plastic and glass bottles as well as various other bathroom accessories, i.e. real pumice stones, soap sacks to exfoliate the skin, and even straight up beeswax to make your own cosmetics with at home.
After meandering for awhile, I came across their Essential Oil Chart and looked up all of the essential oils that are suggested for the treatment of Acne. Though many cosmetics stores have tons of products that have various essential oils that are great for the natural treatment of Acne, The Refill Shoppe allows you to choose exactly the essential oils you would like in your product in order to get the desired effects you are looking for, whether it be for your hair, your skin, or your mind.
The equally beautiful Alex was there to assist me, offered me the chance to read a beautiful book of essential oils that they keep at the shop, and discussed various essential oils that would be great in the Shower Gel I chose (with Michelle’s assistance) in order to help decrease my inflamed skin and acne on my chest and back. She was extremely compassionate and caring about my situation (vital when discussing sensitive topics like acne), talking about the benefits of essential oils such as Carrot Seed, Tea Tree, and Lavender. I ended up putting all three of these oils in my Shower Gel, and I can’t wait to see the results after using my Shower Gel for the next month or so.
SO! You’re in Ventura. Should you go to The Refill Shoppe? YES! YES! YEEEEESSSS!!! If I had time to do one thing in Ventura next time I visited, it would be to go back to this serene escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life and have another lovely experience with Michelle, Alex, or any of the other genuine souls who I’m sure work at this incredible store.

I have been dying to try The Refill Shoppe for a while now, and tonight really exceeded my expectations! My husband and I (along with our two crazy toddlers) went in tonight right before closing and we were greeted and helped by a really nice man who explained how the whole process works. He answered all of my questions about ingredients/​products and broke down the pricing very well. He then patiently waited while i smelled almost every essential oil they offered and mixed it in with my lotion a little at a time to make sure the scent came out just right! The customer service I received was excellent, I can’t praise TRS enough on that. I can’t wait to use the vanilla face lotion, mud scrub/​mask and lotion I purchased tonight!

A friend of mine recommended The Refill Shoppe. My first visit to the «shoppe» was yesterday, and I will definitely be back. It was such a unique experience to get to customize the scent of the lotion (s) and hair serum I bought. I gifted two of the lotions for birthdays and kept one for myself, and everyone was impressed with the process of filling your own bottle and picking the scent. I can’t wait to try the hair serum. I plan to go back to try out different products including the shampoo, conditioner, dish soap, hair spray, and body wash. Very cool place, if you are in the Ventura area, pay them a visit.

Everyone who works here is so patient, allowing me to try a million different variations before deciding on which essential oils to include in hand soaps, body sprays, dishwasher soap, etc etc etc.
It’s a mellow and lovely place to spend some quality and low-​stress shopping time.

Forewarning: Be prepared to be overwhelmed; even though they are a small store, they carry quite the selection.
Pretty cool shop, or should I say shoppe, that lets you refill household and beauty products with essential oils. Essentially it’s DIY because you can blend your own scents with the product of your choosing, be it hair serum or cleaning agents. My fave is the hair serum with happy blend; I find that the pure essentials oils are not only too pungent but also require far too much commitment.
Tip: Bring your own bottle and you don’t have to pay for theirs — you just pay the value of the product.

Why don’t they have one of these in the Bay Area?
I found this place on acciden twhen I was downtown with my brother and cousin but I am so glad that I did.
Basically, they have every bath or home product you can think of here. You purchase a bottle or you can bring your own and then you can fill it with shampoo, conditioner, lotion etc. they even have dog shampoo. After you pick a bottle and a solution, you can create your own scent.
I bought body wash and body lotion and scented them with lavender oil. I love the smell and I will have to some back once I run out. The lotion is not as thick as I would like but it does the job. The most important part is that the lotions are paraben free and vegetarian, which is something I care about.
They also have a baby section, pet section, household cleaners, deoderant, you name it. The girl who helped me with my purchase was very knowledgeable and mixed my lotions. She kept checking with me to see how strong or subtle I wanted the scent to be. Their products are fairly priced which is great because you are re-​using your bottles and using products that are not harmful to your body.
I wish I could order online. For now, I will just have to come visit my family more often.

Omg I just discovered this today and I’M IN LOVE. They have everything from laundry detergent to face lotion and they even have a baby section! Their supply has such a wide span that you want/​need everything! Also, its eco-​friendly so that’s always an added plus. The way it works is that they sell containers for you to buy or you bring your own and then you fill it with their bulk supplies which are sold buy the ounce (not too pricey either, for example, the conditioner is .55 cents an oz). Most their options are unscented which then you get to create your own scent. They have a huge selection of scents and you can choose up to 6. The concept is awesome!
They also have a wide selection of artisan products too. Like lip balms, soaps, and candles.
Definitely stop by when you’re in the area!

Love love love this place. We are in Ventura for 5 days and discovered this place our first morning. The staff is do incredibly helpful.
On our first visit my kids and I all got lotion.
The woman helping us was very friendly and knowledgable. We loved it south we went back this morning.
We got hand sanitizer and soap.
I think tomorrow we will return for more !!!

Love this little shop which we understand just moved closer down to the main part of the shopping area on Main.
We found amazing little gifts to use for our daughters’ birthday/​Christmas and some really swell natural products that we never expected to find.
I was thrilled to see the refill concept in action, so that the empty bottle is now refilled and we are not imagining huge waste piles or landfills full of stuff like that.
Glass nail files, loofahs, old fashioned non-​laureth sulfate natural shampoos, and wrapping products to allow the gift to be given in fabric.
Definitely a new favorite and hope to get back here soon before the holidays as it will be a great eco-​friendly way to give the gifts.

What an amazing direction! The whole concept of eliminating the necessity to produce more bottles for the same products we purchase over and over again is profound. They are an eco-​conscious store which after one visit will leave you equally as conscious.
So the notion is simple – you bring in your empty bottle of shampoo (or other product) and have it refilled by The Refill Shoppe. What a great way to «Go Green!» I love the whole idea behind the business – doing something good for Our Mother Earth. :0)
They carry shampoo, conditioner, lotion, bath gel, bubble bath, dish soap, laundry detergent, window cleaner and more! You can add fragrance and/​or oils to your liking. You basically design your own scent, if you want it to be scented. It’s pretty cool.
Give them a visit! They’re very informative about their purpose and goals. They’re very open and free with explaining how things work! So, ask questions and pass it on! The more who join in the green movement, the better!
