History

Established in 1997.

Owner/​stylist Kelley Gaston established Michael Kelley Salon & Day Spa in 1995… at that time in downtown Ventura. He relocated the business to its fabulously hip mid town Ventura location in 2005. Michael Kelley houses some of the best talent of hair stylist and spa technicians in all of Ventura County. While we never compromise on quality and service, our prices are extremely reasonable.

Kelley has been doing hair for 20 years. He has extensive experience as an Aveda, Shcwarzkopf, Wella and Goldwell educator. Kelley continues his education with current cutting and coloring techniques through constant education and the current popular trends such as the Brazilian Blowout. Kelley also has done hair for the stars such as Jake Busey, Dalene Curtis and the world renowned band INXS. He has owned and ran his successful salon and day spa, «Michael Kelley Salon» since 1995 in his hometown of Ventura. While balancing his career and personal life (he is married to Tara and they are the proud parents of 3 children), he is an avid surfer and active member in several philanthropic groups around him community.

I go to Jen Isham for her spray tans & Brazilian waxes! She is AMAZING! She is fabulous at making you feel so comfortable while all your lady parts are totally exposed, and really takes your mind off it completely and before you know it shes done. She is SO fast, makes it as painless as you can possibly get and very professional. I got my first Brazilian in 2012 and I haven’t stopped coming back every 4 – 6 weeks to keep it up! Her spray tans are perfect, especially her express spray tan! I love that I can shower just a few hours after getting sprayed and it is always so perfect, always even, and the perfect bronze shade, and her product stays on so much longer than any other salon I have ever been too. If you have any questions shes always there to answer them for you! Can’t wait to see you soon Jen! XO!

First, let me start by saying that this place is awesome! I did not expect to get seen the same day especially on a Friday but they easily accommodated me. This was my first time here and I was lucky enough to get Morgan, she is so patient and friendly, she made time go by so quickly. I have a hard time trusting people especially after all my hair horror stories but if you need color or a simple cut, I totally recommend you go see her for all your hair needs! I went here for a massage, and my masseuse was about 5 minutes late to come out and get me, then she left me in the room for 7 minutes just to get ready to lay on the table, which is way more than I need. The room was also a bit cold. Luckily, the massage itself lasted the full 90 minutes, and it felt really good and I definitely feel much better after it. I was a little confused after the massage though, when I walked out and my masseuse was no where to be found. So I found my way to the front and she came up a few minutes later to tell me I need to drink water, but didn’t offer me any. Maybe I am just used to extra nice treatment, but even with the great massage itself, I will not be getting another one here just based off the customer service.

Oh wow. I may never go anywhere else again. Tammy cut my hair today and to put it simply, she was amazing. She listened to what I was looking for and gave me everything in a haircut that I never knew I wanted. She is clearly very talented. Tammy worked slowly and deliberately, allowing me to have input about the layering/​bangs/​etc. Wonderful! Couldn’t be happier!

Got my hair done by Adriana for the first time! She’s super friendly & really easy to talk to! I’m the kind of person that gets really scared when someone messes up my hair but the fact that she listened & did exactly what I wanted for my hair is a huge plus! If you’re looking for someone like that, she’s your girl! Highly recommended & definetly coming back!

You know that feeling when you have found your perfect hair stylist, and you do not trust anyone else? I have had that feeling several times from going to Michael Kelly Salon. They are the best! I started going there when a friend recommended I have Jessica do my hair for my wedding, 2 and a half years ago. Every time I see her, she always gets my hair to be exactly what I wanted.
Before the wedding, my sister’s hair needed some special TLC and I went to Michael Kelly. We saw Melissa (I think) who was very nice. She was also very nice, and professional, and my sister’s hair was rescued, against all odds!
Then, when Jessica was not available once, I saw Destiny, who used to work under her, and she was also wonderful as well.
In short, everyone at Michael Kelly Salon is highly competent, and very nice. I trust them with my hair without even thinking about it, and I recommend them to everyone I know.

Saw Jen today for a Brazillian!!! She is Uhhhhhhmazing!!! The best… she’s super fast… super nice and adorable. loved her… She knows how to wax!!! I had a horrible experience at a different place and literally was so scared and nervous… but Jen made me comfortable and literally gave me the best experience ever!!! I will never shave… ever ever again!!! I recommend Jen… I’m totally addicted!!! Thank you so much Jen for taking care of my Va J J… lol I’ve never been so excited!!!

Went there for an ombré and I booked an appointment with Destinee Mize she is by far amazing & I felt 100% comfortable with her it was my first time doing something like this to my hair but I am so happy I did! She is my new hairstylist & I am amazed by her work! Love love love her!

Angie for nails! She’s is quick clean and creative! She will always try to fit you into her schedule for last minute appointments.
For hair, hands down Kelsey! She turned my choppy nightmare haircut into fabulous without sacrificing my length. Great with color as well. I’ve also gotten a Brazilian blowout by kelsey.
Overall, always a joy to visit them.

First of all I have been a rep for a large Hair Care company for several years and know a lot of stylists… and Jodi Hull rocks! Incredible hair cut the first time I went to her… amazing color and a blow dry that didn’t leave me wanting to go home and re-​do my hair :)

Today I had the privilege of having Karmina do my hair. It is simply my favorite haircut and color I have ever had. I was feeling «hair bored». She not only fixed my dull, damaged hair into some marvellous, but she listened exactly to everything I wanted and turned it into something even better than I imagined. She is wonderful, and I can not wait to work with her again for all of my hair needs in the future!

Adriana rocked my hair! I came in with long hair, wanting to go back to a medium length with lots of layers so it could be easy breezy curly– she did exactly what I wanted when I couldn’t really describe it! I really appreciated the conversation and that she took her time to make sure the layers were perfect– I am in LOVE with my hair! I highly recommend Adriana if you have thick curly hair

I recently moved from San Francisco to Ventura. I was spoiled in SF – there is a salon and blow dry bar on every corner. City living dictates you have others glam you up. When I moved to Ventura I was in search of a new place to get my blowouts for beachy waves and special dates and, a place to get brows, nails etc all in one would be a major bonus.
I was very surprised to find Michael Kelley does it all and does it WELL! Bryanna gave me an awesome blowout the night I got engaged (I had no idea and I was thrilled my hair looked amazing in the engagement night pics). Adriana has done my blowouts that last 4 times – what a sweetie! She is amazing and last time my beachy waves looked perfect for 4 days after!
The nail technicians here are also amazing! Best gel manis that last 2 weeks and they pedicures are not cheap but, it is a very relaxing spa experience. I will be back soon… maybe for some eyelash extensions for my up-​and-​coming wedding.

The haircut itself was amazing. I had had a really bad haircut before so I was searching for a new hairstylist and just did a walk in. Adriana was super friendly and the cut works really well, up or down, straight or curly, it’s cute!
However, the front office staff wasn’t really friendly. There was some snooty chick that basically ignored me when I walked in.
The girl that checked me out was sweet, but I was annoyed how they advertised $ 10 wax, but nowhere in the add did they say «only when our wax lady is here» I asked if I could get it and they said «oh she just left» and I asked if they would honor that price later and they said no. Oh ok. Then put that in your add! Too bad because if I had liked it I would have came coming back! I am in search of a wax lady too. Oh well their loss. I’ll come back for Adriana but that’s the only reason. I am not really feeling the snooty chicks

Jen Rutledge knows her way around a Brazilian wax! I found her at another shop and will follow her wherever she goes. So quick you almost forget the pain… For anyone who’s had one you know that’s saying something! Jen makes you feel so comfortable in what isn’t one of the most comfortable of moments.
Afraid to get a wax, like I originally was. Jen is the person to go to hands down!
Plus she referred me to my fabulous hair stylist!

Having just moved to Ventura, I was facing the task of finding a new hair stylist — and I have to say I have hot the jackpot!
Tara, who co-​owns the salon, suggested I try LAUREN and today I went and had my hair cut and I LOVE the result.
Lauren took her time with the wash and gave me a scalp massage form heaven and then talked to me at length about my options for cuts and color and then she went to work and the finished result is lovely. There is also FREE touch ups for my bangs which wonderful.
I go back next week for the ‘deal with my grey’ part so we shall see what magic she works there… watch this space.
I also tried out the eye brow wax with Colette and she was fab! Calm, precise and caring — just what you need when you are having your hair torn out of your brow, :-)

Had a terrible experience with stylist Morgan. Ended up being forced to go to another salon for a correction of a brassy over bleached «ombré» pictures of ny hair and my conversation with the stylist are posted here and I think they speak for themselves.
Deciding on this salon was a nightmare from start to finish.

A couple of weeks ago, we came here to get updos and our make-​up done for a wedding.
Stacey? did our hair and it might have been because of how short my hair was but it was super tight. I wanted it like a picture I brought in but I had to repeat myself to make sure it didn’t get side tracked. I got asked if I wanted coffee but never got it. The final price was $ 50.
Leah did my make-​up and she was wonderful. She listened to what I wanted and had great energy. I absolutely loved it and it was just like the picture I showed her. She airbrushed my face and contoured my face. I loved the fake lashes she applied. She had a gentle touch the entire time! Leah ended up giving me a brand new sample tube of Mac gloss so I could touch-​up throughout the day… bonus points! I would def refer anyone to her.
