You have to try the Gringo Taco! These are the most amazing tacos I’ve ever had. The shells are dredged in Parmesan cheese before they are filled — fantastic!!!

Yum yum yum! Just finished eating here and definitely not disappointed. Friendly atmosphere and yummy food! Tried the «el flaco» margarita and it was great. Recommend the negra modelo fish taco… Just a tip– it has a kick:)

A Last minute Valentines getaway and the Food and Service was a needed savior for the Day Thanks. Best Mexican food and drinks ever the best customer service our bar tender rob was awesome !

Always good. Friendly fast service. Killer tacos & guac & ridiculous made to order micheladas. No mix used… like real micheladas. Tequila selection is outrageous too! One of our favorite spots.

First time in Ventura and not exactly sure where to go but we were craving a margarita and chips & salsa ! We could not be more impressed, margaritas were excellent, we played it safe and ordered nachos, best nachos we have had in a long time ! Fresh chips, excellent salsa, fresh chicken, everything was hot to serve… friendly service … We enjoyed all this while our little one napped to great tunes on the juke box.

Love this place. Great Mexican food. Great bar. Excellent service. Cool atmosphere.

I will never return here! We walked in tonight about 9:40…I get it, it’s Saturday night and busy however at the time, we were the only people waiting for a table. Someone at the bar said first come first serve… we saw a party leaving so we grabbed their table. A blonde server came up to us and said how that table is saved for big parties and a big one just walked in… normally I would understand but since it was first come first serve and that party walked in twenty minutes after us, that was super inappropriate. She asked us to move (even though there were no tables open) and see if she could get us a table but never came back and seemed very annoyed. Another server, a guy with glasses, told us to move also within a minute when we were already moving and when I asked his name he said «why??».
We walked out and left. Douchebags none the less. Never coming here again!

These guys are super rude here and unprofessional. Came in late Saturday night and waited around for a table, snagged one and were told we weren’t a big enough party since one just walked in that was big. We were waiting way longer then them. Just a bummer with how rude they were. First and last time here.

The best drinks in town. Rob the bartender is awesome. Food is top notch. Music is not to loud. We are never disappointed.

From the moment you walk into the El Rey you are greeted with a warm welcome, great music, the harp (on Friday nights), delicious drinks, tasty food, and the most accommodating bartenders Rob and Efrain. The waitresses are top notch as well. Stop in and experience the El Rey for yourself.

Tacos are very good and well priced. They put pineapples on top of the tacos which I thought was a great twist!
The décor is busy and fun, lots to look at and the bras on the chandlers are a silly/​sexy touch.
I came in with my friend on a slow day so we had plenty of space and attention. We were greeted right away by the bar tenter and our waitress, Heather, came shortly after. Heather was AWESOME! She was so personable and welcoming. She had great recommendations for my friend and I that raised our tab and experience.
I’m a Ventura local but don’t come here a lot. That will definitely change.

Spent 5 hours there in Saturday for the UFC fights. It was elbow to elbow packed. The staff handled it like pros. They were really great. Nobody was left waiting long for food or drinks. I had a blast! Great quesadilla.

I usually order margaritas at places I’m not familiar with because they’re one of the hardest drinks to mess up… This place made the worst (and most expensive) margarita I’ve ever had. I mean… Lime, tequila, triple sec. How do you f$%# that up??? And at 9 buck a pop??? Bad attitude behind the bar too.

I always enjoy going to el Rey. It has a fun vibe and the staff is awesome. One of my favorite spots. You have to try the Cabo taco!

This definitely is not a place to go on a first date, as the décor is… quirky. Perhaps a 4^th or 5^th date, because by then the bras on the lighting fixtures might not be as uncomfortable to look at. And the loud music won’t be as awkward to have to yell over.
Taco Tuesday has some great deals but can get a little crowded. The carne asada tacos fantastic, so are the Baja tacos. The Baja tacos are a little pricey but are well worth it. The beer is good and the waitresses are fast. The salsa bar has a wide range of spiciness.
Overall a good place, with its own unique vibe. But beware of the restrooms.

Visited El Rey Cantina for the first time yesterday with the Fiancé. When we first walked in there was no one who greeted us, so we proceeded to the bar. The bartender then told us we can sit wherever, and choose a really nice booth by the door. Overall, the interior and ambiance of the bar is pretty chill, which we love. Cute décor touch was the Elvis pictures throughout the restaurant and hanging bras from the light fixtures. Music was pretty cool, they played reggae until 10:15ish (once the Dodgers game was done) a DJ started playing REALLY good chill music, surprisingly really good hip hop which is hard to find on Main St, VTA.
Alchie Drinks were prices reasonable, 805 and Corona each $ 5 – 6. Loved the appetizer of unlimited chips and salsa-​Salsa not being too spicy it had the perfect kick.
FOOD: I ordered the El Rey Burrito, carne asada with the homemade beans on the side. The Carne asada was pretty tasty, it was nice because it was actually moist not like that dry kinda meat from other places, like it was just sitting around, no this place was fresh.
Fiancé ordered the enchiladas, the chicken was on point nice and moist which was the shredded chicken, but his CHEESE enchilada was NOT all that GREAT. The cheese inside was not melted and it could have used more overall cheese sauce on top. Enchiladas are meant to be drenched in cheese and sauce-​the enchiladas here are not.
Chelsea was our server, she was very nice and down to earth.
All in all, if you are Tequila lover, you must visit this place because they have shots ranging from $ 5-​$ 70 for a tequila sipper shot. *Beware on a Saturday for customers getting shwasted from too much «Tekilla», seriously though-t’s a great place to people watch :)
Will we be back? Sure, for drinks, chill ambiance and burritos.
