I’m Keoni, the owner and head surf instructor at SURFinLA. Myself and my team are friendly, knowledgeable professional surfers from Hawaii and California. We have surfed all types of waves, and enjoy teaching people from all walks of life.

We love the ocean and the serenity of the waves, and of course the amazing rush of catching them! Each of our team members have over 10 years of teaching experience, and I take pride in only bringing on the best to my team. We love coaching kids and adults, from beginners to the more advanced. Unofficially, we estimate a 99% success rate in getting people up on the board!

I wish I had read the Unilocal reviews before I purchased the LivingSocial deal last year. One year later, and I still haven’t been able to redeem my voucher. Keoni cancelled the lessons mid summer and rescheduled for Nov/​Dec. He was unresponsive during that time and after numerous attempts to reach him, he finally responded that we could pick back up in Summer of 2015. I emailed him early June and he said he would honor the voucher, but then he dropped off the face of the earth for weeks despite numerous calls and emails to him. He would pop back in to say «Sure this weekend works great!» and then when I confirm, no response. No call backs, no email responses. In the end, I just asked LivingSocial for a refund and they just gave me credit to the account to use for something else. What a waste of time and energy! From what I read, he’s not very professional in how he conducts business.

My wife bought me a Groupon for a Surfing Class. I left voice mails and send emails to Keoni and no answer. I went to the address shown here on Unilocal and it is not a business, it is a private home. And the people living there told us that Keoni moved to San Francisco. They gave us 2 new contact info but they didn’t answered back.
My wife got the money back from Groupon after several emails explaining them the situation.
After all this trouble I received an email from Keoni wanted to schedule the class??? too late!!!
Be careful while purchasing Groupons, not all vendors are serious about their business.
Good luck finding a Surfing Instructor. I ended up finding mine at Craigslist.

We bought a groupon for this company. It took months to get them to agree to the date. Then, once it was set up, they left my wife and kids waiting for two hours because they forgot. They agreed to honor the Groupon beyond the expiration date, but did not answer email or Facebook. We finally heard back from him and he apologized, saying he’s been having a pretty rough time (which I hope starts getting better), but we agreed to not proceed with lessons. Groupon didn’t want to refund because it was expired but finally agreed to refund in Groupon bucks. I’d prefer to have my cash back, so I recommend not buying the Groupon and being sure you pay after lessons are complete.

Keoni is the best! If he can teach a Midwestern kid whose hardly every been in the ocean like me, I think he can teach anyone. I was especially impressed by how Keoni builds your confidence out on the water by taking things step by step and pushing you just enough so that you have a real sense of accomplishment. He’s super patient and laid back and genuinely just wants to have fun surfing! I stood up within an hour of my first lesson and was hooked. I’m still going back so I can continue to get better. My girlfriend was jealous of my surfing stories so we did a lesson together. She stood up during her first lesson too, and we had an awesome time riding party waves together. If you’re looking to learn to surf, Keoni is your man.

Booking with Surfin LA was a great experience! It was really fast and easy to book. Keoni is a fabulous teacher! He made the lesson really fun for a complete novice like myself. I will definitely be recommending him to any of my friends or family that are looking for a great day at the beach while learning the fundamentals of surfing. Can’t wait to book my next lesson!
