Beach Barcycle

Had such a good time! It was neat and something different. You go to a couple of bars (they have drink specials). You don’t drink on the barcycle. You peddle the barcycle from bar to bar.

I would not recommend this to anyone. It’s definitely NOT worth $ 395 dollars.
We booked a private 2 hour tour through Main Street in Santa Monica. You’re only on the barcycle for about 15 minutes total (during the entire 2 hours) You do not drink while on the bike and you’re not allowed to bring any glass. Too many rules. Our driver was boring and barely said two words the entire time.
The first bar that we stopped at which I believe was called The Anchor was awful. We were told that since we were a part of the barcycle that we were not allowed to sit inside. The manager was extremely rude and I was ignored while trying to ask where the restroom was. I don’t understand how this is still in business. The driver didn’t even drop us at our original location which was promised on the agreement that I signed.
Save your money and just bad hop yourself

Had the best time on my birthday! Such a fun, different experience to enjoy with friends. Don’t expect an adrenaline rush or anything. you’re moving at a glacial pace but you hit some great stops in Venice and SM to grab drinks/​pitchers. Non-​stop laughs and Nick was a great host.

Barcycling is a cool idea. It was fun but I thought it would be more adventurous. By that I mean… the whole route was really short. We went to only went to 4 bars (including the first bar where we met). Was at each bar for about 20 mins.
Pros: fun, different. The drinks are cheaper with the barcycle wristband. 4 – 5 for well drinks and beer
Cons: short, we went in a circle.
I wish they had a barcycle that went to 9 – 12 bars.

I’ve seen these crazy contraptions going around in various beach cities and have always been intrigued, but it wasn’t until a recent friend’s bday that I got to climb on and get my drink on. Actually, you don’t get to drink ON the barcycle, sadly, but that’s what the bar stops are for. We started out at Finn McCool’s and went on to The Anchor, Rick’s on Main, and Basement Tavern before coming back to Finn’s. For having as many people on the thing you’d be surprised at how slow you’re going, lol. Our guide/​driver/​brake man was great and he had a portable bluetooth speaker from which you can blast your own obnoxious tunes as the pedestrians and drivers gawk at you from all angles! The stops at each bar were about 30 minutes so it did feel a little rushed at times, but we had a great time nonetheless. It ended up being like $ 35/​person so not the most economical outing, but I think it’s worth doing at least once :) If you don’t mind making a spectacle of yourself, this is the celebration for you!

They say if u leave a message, they will call u back within 24 hours. Good luck waiting for that. They DO NOT call back. I repeat they do not call back. They never pick up the phone n never return ur call back. They need to be spontaneous but they r not. Maybe that’s just la n how these people do business. They do not care in the end.

We did this for my birthday a few months ago and it was a blast! Everyone had such a good time. To sum it up, it is a 17-​person bicycle that everyone pedals together. For non-​locals they offer touristy routes, but, for locals, this is a great way to gain a new perspective of your usual go-​to bar route. Barcycles are for rent in Santa Monica, Venice, Hermosa Beach, and Redondo Beach. We took the Santa Monica route and highly recommend it.
If you embark on the Beach Barcycle, ask for Larry to be your driver. He’ll show you a good time, guaranteed.

Who doesn’t love pedaling around on a large contraption with a bar in the middle down Main Street with the music playing and cars honking at you?!? Had a blast taking the 2 hour barcycle tour of Santa Monica/​Venice with a group of friends. Reserved the barcycle tour for 2 hours at 8pm on a Saturday night. Rounded up the troops to meet at Fin McCools and settled in for a couple drinks while people signed the liability waivers and received their «barcycle tour bracelets.» Hopped on the bike and our driver offered to play music and we got the party started (he even offered to play anyone’s iphone/​itunes playlists as well which was great). The tour made a stop a the Firehouse. Would recommend reconsidering this stop and possibly swapping it out for a different spot as it was empty and not a lively scene that was needed to match the liveliness of the barcycle tour. When I booked the tour, i was informed that each bar on the tour would have drink «specials» for the barcycle tour peeps. However, the bartender at Firehouse didn’t know what we were talking about when we asked about the special and our driver had to talk to him and then call someone and we finally got «$ 5 Stellas» as the «special.» We wanted to leave after a drink and then hopped back on and rode around Main street and then back tracked by to O’briens Pub, where the tour ended. Here again, we asked the bartender for the «barcycle drink specials» and again he stared at us with a blank stare and said he didn’t know what we were talking about. Unfortunately, we no longer had our driver there to help us. Overall, it was a great concept and a fun way to spend a couple hours with friends «bar hopping» per se. My only suggestion is that bars are more knowledgeable about the «drink specials» for the barcycle peeps and that different bars are added to the tour. We only went to Fin McCools, Firehouse, and O’briens and we didn’t travel very far on the barcycle. Customer service is great though as I emailed them this same feedback and they responded right away and apologized and said they were still trying to work with the bars on remembering the special deals for the barcycle crew and offered me a 20% discount on another tour. I will definitely be rounding up the crew for summer tour!

I want my own Beach Barcycle! Where can I get my own human-​powered pub-​crawl mobile with anti-​DUI capabilities that seats me and 16 of my friends? Did I mention its green?
After losing my Barcycle virginity, the only thing I going through my mind was, «Where has the Barcycle been all of my life?!» As a California native who lives at the beach by day and self-​proclaimed happy-​hour guru, bar hopping my way around Santa Monica by night, the Barcycle is everything wonderful all rolled into one! What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon than in the California sunshine, sharing a few laughs with friends as you pedal your way through town, enjoying the sights, some good music, stopping wherever and whenever you want to eat, shop, or of course DRINK, and do something truly unique and completely FUN that is good for the environment, your wallet (drink specials, no DUI’s), and You (yes, some physical activity is required)! This was a great experience!
Why had I never heard of this before?! This is a party on wheels and my new go-​to for birthdays and other social gatherings in which drunk people getting from bar to bar is inevitable. I don’t know what was more fun, being on the bike or in the bars! I haven’t felt that much excitement in a long time and by the end of the journey, and one too many cocktails, I was laughing and relishing the last moments of exuberance. This may sounds corny, but I had such a great time on the Bar Cycle, I felt like a kid again, I felt so alive!
I can’t stop talking about how much fun I had and I am shocked that most all of my friends have not heard of this either. How is this possible?! I cannot wait for an excuse to get on this pedal powered party-​cycle again! Do it!
