BG’s Busted Knuckle

WOW!!! This has got to be one of the island’s best kept secrets. I have lived here for over 4 years and haven’t heard anything about BG’s Busted Knuckle Auto Repair & Detail other than seeing the sign on the corner of Bank Road and 100^th.
Our minivan just spent the last 3+ months parked and not being used and unfortunately, due to a sunroof leak, had become quite the terrarium for mold and mildew. The water leak had come through the headliner and caused all the carpeting to get wet and grow mold. When I stuck my head in the van last week, I noticed mold all over different parts of the interior — seat belts, seats, floor — everything. And it stunk really bad too.
I didn’t realize that there was a detailer on the island, so I was in the process of searching for one off island when someone told me about BG’s. Being the only one on the island who does detailing, I figured that his prices would be higher than off island and/​or the quality wouldn’t be as good. But I called anyway and I am SO glad that I did!
I explained to Bob over the phone what my problem was and that this was probably going to be one of the worst jobs he would have in a long time, but he was confident and sure that he could do what I needed him to and didn’t seem worried about it. I’ll admit, I was worried because perhaps he didn’t realize just how bad this mold and moisture problem was. He quoted me $ 190 – 210 for the full interior and exterior clean and detail package, and that includes using all-​natural cleaning products. I jumped on it because this was about $ 100 less than what I had been quoted off island!
When I dropped the van off this morning, I was still half expecting him to take a look at it and say, «Oh wow, that IS bad. It’s going to cost a bit more than what I quoted you.» But he didn’t. He took it all in stride and was really easy going and laid back and said it would be no problem.
Tonight when I went back to pick it up, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Not only was all the mold gone and the odor that had lingered with it, but the carpet looked brand new! In fact, EVERYTHING looked brand new! The leather was soft and conditioned, the windows were void of fingerprints, he even managed to get Sharpie marker out of the carpet in one spot and leather in another where my preschool-​aged kids had been working on their «tagging» skills. Cup holders were cleaned of any kind of residue from spilled coffee and/​or soda, every crevice, nook, and cranny was clean and spotless! The exterior looks brand new as well. Even the perma-​mildew on the roof below the luggage rack (where no car wash can adequately reach) was completely gone. The rims are sparking so bright I swear they have an on/​off switch and battery pack hiding somewhere.
It seriously looks like a new van!!!
And guess what? He only charged me $ 200 — including tax. I’m speechless. I really am.
If you are looking for someone to detail your vehicle, look no further than BG’s Busted Knuckle. He’s fast, he’s competitive, he’s convenient, he does AMAZING work, and he’s a great communicator (returns voicemail, calls you when he says he will, etc). He also does auto repair as well (his neighbor/​business partner is an ASE certified mechanic).
