$ 20 for an all-day access is unbeatable. The staff is friendly, don’t know what some of these other reviews were coming from. Guy at the pistol range allowed me to gather all my spent .357’s. He asked before sweeping up casings, which I appreciated. You’re allowed to move your pistol target anywhere between 1 – 25 or so yards. But if you want to move it, you’re going to have to wait 20+ minutes for the range to go cold. I didn’t mind the time to much, it just gave time to reload everything. A little bit shorter time between target swaps would be nice, to keep targets from being over-used. Targets start at $.50 each, I didn’t ask about gun rentals or ammo prices. Just bring your own munition. The range wasn’t very crowded, at one point it was full but quickly filtered out, no one complained about wait time. This will be my main range now.

Awful. Only go here if you wanted to be treated like a child no matter your shooting skill/knowledge by the employees who get an ego trip by feeling they have some ego trips when they aren’t fit to be a security guard. Facility is rundown the 25yd rifle range has been out of service for almost a year and they have raised the price twice in the last year. So where is the extra money going? Certainly not upkeep so if being treated like a child standing still shooting one shot per second not being able to do any real life scenario training is your thing then go here. Sad this is the only range around somebody needs to open a new one. But I have a nice spot I found in washougal that’s perfect

Been plinking a bunch of times out in the forrest, but never shot at an official range. A friend peaked my interest telling me about this place. I decided to check it out and get some rounds through my pistols. The range officer was very friendly and informative. He pointed me in the right direction. The other shooters were very friendly and we worked together to keep the range properly«hot or cold» for target replacement. Safety was of upmost importance! I respect that and learned a few things in the process. I will be back. Can’t wait. Had a blast!

Had the best time ! Steve set up our group and made sure we had all our equipment and proper protection. Safety was top notch. I brought my 16 year old son to shoot while visiting family and Steve made us feel like family while on range. Constantly checking in and offering suggestions. I can’t wait to come back !! My family that lives in Portland will keep coming back for sure!

The location is convenient and it is not terribly expensive. You can bring your own ammo, and they allow you to attempt to collect your brass. The pistol range can be problematic if you like clean targets, because it can take a long time to get a chance to go cold and swap them out. The target carriages hang from strings that frequently break, leaving you to wait until the next time the rest of the shooters are ready to go cold before they can be repaired. The rifle ranges have a maximum range of 100 yards, which is understandable in the location. The problem is that the benches are fixed such that a tall or short person may have difficulty getting into a good shooting position, and it is impossible to shoot in any position other than from the bench(e.g. prone, kneeling, sitting, standing).

This is my go-to range. They have a day pass and a stamp card system, free entry every 7th time. They also allow you to bring outside ammo which is a plus. No membership needed to go here. I normally hit this place up once a week, each week to a different part of the range(pistol, 50 yard/100 yard rifle). The one big stand out about this place is its staff. They are very friendly and informational. If you do something wrong, they will correct you in a nice and polite manner. They will also offer tips and advice, and overall a good chat. They are NOT hard-asses. During the weekday when it’s slower, the ranges are shooter-managed, ie: the shooters call the range HOT or COLD. You may think that this is lack of range supervision but it’s really not… I’ve been going here for over a year and half and patrons here are very attentive of one another and communicate well together. My only suggestion is they add a rail system(even if it’s manual) to the pistol range. It would also be nice if they allowed you to set up steel targets too. It would also be nice if they offered an annual pass with unlimited access :)

My guest and I had a great time at the English Pit Range today. Weather was not a factor in our enjoyment with covered firing lines, friendly effective oversight and courteous staff. What a pleasant surprise to find a great range without the condescending attitude. As of today I am no longer looking for a ranger membership elsewhere. Thanks«T“for making our day an enjoyable one.

My wife and I went here yesterday and took my Daniel Defense M4V7 out for its initial break in. The staff is really nice and the prices are great. $ 35 for the two of us and we were there for close to 3 hours. The range safety officers are very helpful and make sure the range is always safe. A few upgrades need to be done to the target stands and they need a restroom on site. Overall, a great place to shoot. We recommend this place!

The English Pit– quite a drive for me but go ahead and find another no-membership-gun range around. They have 3 ranges: Pistol, .22, and rifle. They do have a shotgun area but I’ll get to that in a minute. They have a range officer most of the time. The staff for the most part is good. They have a punch card, after 7 paid visits the 8th is free. The fun stuff: they have a great selection if gun rentals. Look at my profile pic, that’s me shooting a Smith and Wesson .500 Magnum at The English Pit rented from them. They sell ammo for their guns or you can buy some from them to use in yours. In the wake if the ammo shortage I could always buy a couple boxes if 9 mm or .22LR there and enjoy some range time. Prices are more than from a store but not by much. The only downside is their shotgun range. They won’t let you use anything but target/birdshot. No slugs or buckshot. All you’re shooting at is an orange panted X in a sand pile so why can’t we use other ammo? Here’s the other issue: the very first time I went there with a friend, we were handed a laminated sheet with all the rules printed on it. It stated No rapid fire although double and triple tsps are ok. But them there’s signs on the range saying there must be at least one second between shots. Ok so which is it? We found out after getting yelled at by the guy who was running the booth. Apparently even though their rule sheet said double and triple tsps are ok, it’s not ok at all. Even the range officer that day said he didn’t see why we couldn’t. In fact, here the video I shot of my friend shooting his Saiga 12 at the range. The last 3 shot burst is what got us in trouble. . Ok whatever. Still a good place to go.

Has everything you need. There’s no test to shoot, and the range masters aren’t always nearby. Probably worth keeping an eye on the people around you so you don’t get shot, but to be honest, everybody seemed to know what they were doing. Good crowd and super convenient. In terms of a rifle range, this is about the only option around without a membership(I’ve been on the wait list at Tri-County for almost a year). All in all, pretty awesome facility for a great price.

English Pit is a nice facility and the staff there is very friendly these days. Shout-out to Steve the Range Safety Officer for always being friendly and informative every time I’ve been there in the last year or more. One thing to know, it is NOT a handicap friendly facility. Unfortunately, the place is accessed only via a steep and treacherous set of gravel-covered«steps» built out of railroad ties, or something similar. Needs a bit of TLC on the signage out front, but it is a Clark County Parks and Rec facility, I believe operated by a contractor. Overall, it’s always a good experience to go shooting here.

A great place to go and target practice! I’m new to the Pacific Northwest. I live in Portland and all the shooting ranges in the area are super expensive. A coworker told me about this place. Its affordable and fun. Ammo was actually cheaper for my gun there than it was at the local gun shop! My wife never fired a gun before so we asked about a rental and they had a bunch of them there in perfect shape! It was $ 10 to rent the gun then another $ 10 for 100 rounds for it! The own is super nice. He was at the pistol range with us and was giving us both pointers and tips on aiming. He ended up letting my wife shoot two other guns while we were there so she could get a good grasp on what she likes. They are very safe and its very relaxing to be there. Many people complain about it being in a «Hole» But remember it is a shooting range! They put it in a hole for a reason! The shooting area is covered so that if its raining you could still shoot! Targets are cheap 4 for $ 1. They have a range of styles of targets. They have a 100yd rifle range that I can’t wait to try out. I will be a repeat customer to this range that’s for sure! !

I go here regularly. They have really great prices, and you have access to the range all day for one price. You can even leave and come back. Staff is always helpful, happy, and eager to please. The people who frequent here also seem very nice in general

This will be an odd review for me. I’d never shot a gun before yesterday, but I always enjoy trying new things. A few friends of mine out here are gun owners. They do not hunt. I’d like to make that clear, but they do enjoy target practice. I was invited along and decided I wanted to give it a try. Part of our admission fee on this day went to fight ALS, so whatever you might or might not think about guns, you might at least be able to back this part. This rifle and pistol range is basically a hole in the ground. There are a few different areas you can shoot in. An area designated for rifles as well as an area designated for pistols. We started out on the pistol range and worked our way over to the rifle area. No need to worry about safety here. As long as you are safe with the gun you are holding there shouldn’t be worry of anyone getting hurt or worse. They have designated«hot» times and that is when people are using their weapons. Once everyone is done you are instructed to leave the building where you are shooting from without your guns(these guns will also be unloaded of any bullets). Once everyone leaves and it is deemed safe to check your targets, the time becomes a «cold» time. This is the time when you can go check or change out your target. Nobody is allowed back into the building until everyone is behind an orange line and the staff member says the area is «hot» again. It was an interesting experience. I was able to shoot 3 different pistols as well as a shotgun. Am I running out to stock up on weapons now for the impending zombie apocalypse? No. No I am not. I still have that experience now and am happy I went along for the ride.

Let me start with the bottom line: They were affordable, no membership was required, and you can shoot your own ammo(for your own guns). I strongly recommend visiting their website, as they have updated range schedules &EVERYTHING you need to know before visiting there. Helpful & friendly staff was a bonus. Range officers were very thorough on safety rules & procedures, but gave you plenty of room at the same time. People using the facility seemed to be nice & respectful, too. The pistol range I visited was a outdoor, low budget setup, little bit crowded, but you do have a roof over you, and I did not mind. Only the second time I’ve visited a shooting range, so I am no expert, but I did enjoy shooting at English Pit. I’m definitely coming back, and it is a real shame we don’t have affordable & practical range like this in the Portland/Beaverton/Tigard area.
