Chuck’s Produce & Street Market

I used to absolutely love Chuck’s Produce, and had no problem at all with their Saturday closing.
I was surprised to see complaints about rudeness… until it happened to me! And now it’s definitely an Eek! No Way ever again!!!
I used a credit slip (their own credit slip!) at checkout, and the clerk became upset because I handed it over after she had rung up the sale; apparently the rule is it must be handed over BEFORE they ring it up. Really, it was that simple.
But instead of politely stating the rule and looking for a remedy, she and the bagging person repeated over and over «You can’t do this!» I honestly had no idea what they were talking about.
It only got worse, a third person from the office chimed in, made me explain once again why I even had the credit (!!) (all previously explained when the credit was issued)… unthinkable, never-​before-​experienced-​anywhere over-​reaction!
It wasn’t just irritation, it was aggressive, gratuitous rudeness from all 3 of them.
I never raised my voice or said anything provocative, mostly because I was just so confused by the assaultive over-​reaction to a simple procedural misunderstanding.
So yeah, Eek! Methinks not. Never, no way, ever again.

I have driven past this store almost once a week for the three months I’ve lived in Vancouver. Every time I saw the wood-​beam storefront I would tell myself to remember to go there. I finally had the time to stop in!
I’ve actually been in the store twice. The first time was just a quick tour through the entire store to get a general sense of what they offered.
A few days later I went back for some of the baked goods I saw in the case. The decorated items were so visually stunning that they stood out in my memory.
The store is… quaint? Adorable? Reminiscent of something I’ve never experienced but can imagine? All of the above?
Occasion: My birthday
What I bought: 1 éclair, 1 carrot/​apricot cupcake, 1 chocolate/​peanut butter cupcake, 1 vanilla/​coconut cupcake
Instead of just getting a birthday cake, I wanted to get a few different things that we could cut up and sample.
The éclair, and the vanilla and carrot cupcakes were so good that we made obscene sounds of pleasure with every bite. From frosting, to cake/​pastry, to each filling, they were among the best I’ve had in years.
As beautiful and appealing as it looked, the chocolate PB was disappointing by comparison. The cake itself was drier; the frosting was heavy, and lacked any discernible PB flavor. It wasn’t horrible, and I may have actually liked it more if the other three things weren’t SO much better.
I’m looking forward to shopping in all the other parts of the store. I also can’t wait to have a reason (do I need one???) to sample more of those beautiful baked goods!

Every cook’s dream — wonderful ingredients, good prices and stimulating ideas. Staff are great and seem to be a part of the community. This is my ideal and I grieve that it is 150 miles away. If there were one on the coast, the rest of the markets would close up because their marketing and customer service would win hands down.

Discovered this place because of frequent trips to the orthodontists next door. It is by far one of the cleanest and nicest grocery stores around and is a must stop on our ortho visits. Produce is always fresh and crisp, and the many food options are a real treat. This place is definitely not you everyday grocery store!

I love to go to Chuck’s.They have a great hot turkey meal on Tuesdays.

I love Chuck’s Produce. The produce side of the store has great quality for a great price in most cases. Everything else is good quality but typically expensive for a health store. In the summer their Gelato is amazing. My only real problem with this store is that it’s closed on Saturdays which is a problem since that’s the day we normally son our grocery shopping.

Just moved to the area and pleasantly surprised with this store. Great produce, meat, onsite prepared foods. I usually shop at Whole Foods or New Seasons for my meat and produce but I will definitely be back!

Every time I have tried to come to this market it has been closed. Unilocal is showing the wrong hours.
With this store closing at 7 on Friday and not open at all on Saturday, how are busy working people able to come to the market?
Very odd business hours. Likely could have earned a lot of business from me over the past several months since I have lived in Vancouver.
I can’t speak at all to the quality of the products or pricing because despite numerous attempts, I have never actually set foot inside the store. Shame.

Cheaper than whole foods. Better quality than Trader Joe’s. More variety than your Safeway, Albertson’s, etc.
Expensive name brand items that you could get for a $ 1.00+ cheaper elsewhere. Immaculate store display and produce department. Wonderful prices and quality for fruits and vegetables. Great place to shop if you’re on the vegan side of the animal product usage spectrum.

I’m writing another review as customer service at checkout has become worse. The last 3 months I’m becoming less impressed with the staff. The staff is literally a hit or miss. Lately the produce staff has been awfully grumpy! Also, the last time I was there last week both the cashier and the person helping load the bags both commented on how gross they thought they eggs were that I purchased. Come on, that’s just immature and unprofessional. Chuck’s is becoming less the overall winner in my opinion, and makes me want to shop more at Freddy’s organic section and New Season’s. I feel compelled to write directly to the company about the customer service issues lately.

This is my go to grocery store, but I can’t get some of what I need. It’s almost 5 stars… what’s missing? Drop the religiously imposed limitations and offer some pork, Shellfish, and be open on Saturday.

What a delightful grocery store! Conveniently located between Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods, Chuck’s seems to have taken the best elements of both and created a great store. I don’t remember ever being quite so impressed by a grocery store but this place was darn near perfect. Prices were reasonable, staff were extremely friendly and food selection was impressive. There are a number of options for lunch and dinner: hot bar, pizza, sandwiches, ice cream. It was simply awesome.

This place literally never dissapoints. Popped in for the ingredients for habanero brownies and ended up staying for the BBQ Chicken sandwich with steak fries. It was DELICIOUS and paired well with the Tazo Plum Pomegranate tea. All in all a win for me!

I adore chucks. The décor is absolutely wonderful. The sales are great! We usually stock up on fruit here when they go on sale. The sales on plants at the nursery is a steal. Last year we bought ghost pepper plants for a dollar each. We bought at least six. This year they didn’t have them sadly but we did buy habenero peppers which are alright too.
Their cakes are great. My office always buys their cake here. If I decide to buy an American cake, this is my favorite place to get them. Great quality at a reasonable price and their cakes are gorgeous.

Produce is fantastic here– fresh and affordable. They have great variety.
Chuck’s is one of my favorite things about Vancouver. They serve SOMA Kombucha on tap (rotating flavors). I’M ALL ABOUT IT.

Chucks looks like a Whole Foods when you walk through the door. Everything is extremely clean, there is a rustic feel to the building, and the staff is very friendly. They have a large variety of fruits and vegetables, meats, a bakery, and a deli. They even have a small garden area during the spring and summer months. The fruits and vegetables are very affordable and fresh. Make sure to check the ads for all the good deals! My siblings like their cakes and pastries. They also have a bulk section which is great. They are closed on Saturdays which is a little odd for a grocery store, but I can work around it.

I give this place five stars because my mother absolutely loves it. When they have sales on fruit that is, which is quite often. I remember when this place first opened up and looking at the wood exterior I immediately thought the fruits and veggies would be highly overpriced. To my surprise, they have great deals. When avocados go on sale, you can bet that we stock up. The store is clean and organized despite the number of people who come through. They hire people who are pretty young, but that doesn’t mean that the service is bad. I mean, occasionally it is… but I’ve had great service here most of the time. It is weird that they are closed Saturday but open Sunday. I prefer to get grocery shopping out of the way on Saturday!

So love going here for produce. Their hot meals are great too. THeir other grocery items are really high priced however. The same cereal at Chucks is 4.99 but 3.59 at Fred Meyer.
I recommend going here for your produce needs, lunch, and for local honey. There are some beautiful varieties of fruit and veggies here that I cannot get elsewhere, and they stick to local. The staff is really nice, and there are classes offered monthly for cooking and other things.
The store is very calming, I think it must be the lighting. I like the atmosphere. They have a senior discount on Tuesday and military discount on Wednesday. It does tend to be more crowded these days, so if you’re in a hurry don’t go on these days.
Overall: great place for a hot meal and for produce
