U-Haul of Van Nuys

Im editing my review because it was way too long. Here’s the basics of my experience here:
–Rented out my larger truck and stuck me with a smaller one for the same price. Then blamed it on me for «reserving my truck online.»
–Truck broke down and it was a nightmare to get help from these guys.
Don’t pick this location. That is all I have to say.

Recommend going to Budget Rentals. Their trucks are cheaper and pay less per mile. Didn’t do budget because they were all booked
Now let’s talk about Uhaul
Pros: receiving and dropping off the truck was quick. A small line to receive truck but it went fast
Cons: reservations don’t mean anything when you reserve on line. We didn’t get the right location or time. They call a day before your initial appt to really schedule you but by this time we already set up movers and coordinated the day to fall apart. The truck was given to us with ¼ of gas. It didn’t give us a problem until we packed our stuff and went up a hill on the street and fwy. It freaking stalled and turned off. This was scary, delayed us and we had to pay extra for the movers. We were able to get it to a gas station. We didn’t want to get a new uhaul because that meant more lost time. We hope it was it needed more gas on the hills so we put more gas. That fix the problem. Move continue with out a problem. When we return the uhaul we informed the employee about the problem of hills and he said he will check it out. He got in the truck and drove it to the next client. He freaking lied to our face and gave a dangerous problem to another client. U haul should be ashamed to have that kind of work ethic.

I went to get propane, the attendant was rude and service was slow.

Aside from the fact that it took 20 minutes to get seen because the women upfront liked to talk, they refused to install my Uhaul receiver bar for towing because I didn’t have my 4 year old receipt to prove the purchase of product.
They didn’t have a manager on site so I had to wait for one of the employees to get a hold of Mario the manager via cell phone.
After finally getting a hold of Mario, he told me that he trained his people that way and if they feel like installing it they can and if they don’t want to they don’t have to but it’s the employees choice.
It’s hard for me to believe Uhaul HQ would approve of such thing. Seemed like they were discriminating against a light skinned brotha today.
They have lost my business for good.

I been coming for a year renting trucks to this location and starting from the manager (Mario, Devan, jose and all the rest of guys and even the new kids there are great!!! They have everythig ready and they always with a positive attitude, and provide the best customer service, I think this is best Uhaul location, they are fast very efficient,

I rented a moving truck here and they told me I can drop it off after they close so to just leave the keys in the overnight drop box. I drove it about 10 miles. When I get my bill they said I drove it 70 miles. I let them know this must be a mistake. I talked with the manager and he wouldn’t listen to anything I said and kept saying his guys don’t mess up on miles. These people are crooks. Unfortunately I got stuck with a fraudulent bill. Try a different location.

i called them and phone been disconnected so many time, i got POOR trailer
they wanted to charge me $ 50 more cause i drop it 3 mile a way in location that was close, do not deal with them — do not this mistake

The staff was very friendly and provided quick service. I picked up a Ubox that I shipped to CA AMD rented a pickup to pull the box. It only took 15 minutes to pickup and 5 minutes to drop off!

After calling and talking to them they said I could leave my car there for a few hours while I used a van. After driving half an hour in traffic I get there for them to tell me I can’t leave my car wasting an hour of my time and gas. I use uhaul about 5 times a year, but now I’m switching to a better company like enterprise.

Rented a uhaul Van for 4 hours, great rates clean truck professional employees. William was great and checked me out fast. Thanks guys!

We didn’t rent anything so I can’t speak to those services, but we did purchase a lift, ball, and some wiring that would allow us to tow a teardrop camper with our Wrangler.
William helped us out and provided exceptional customer service. He answered our questions, even questions we didn’t know we should ask, and helped us measure and determine the appropriate parts we’d need. He was extremely well versed in these things and provided us with a very pleasant U-​haul experience!

2014 Unilocal 100 CHALLENGE — ⁹⁶⁄₁₀₀
Came to this U-​Haul recently to purchase more packing tape. They’re conveniently located at the intersection of Van Nuys and Saticoy, and they have a HUGE sign out front so you really can’t miss it.
I came here less than 30 minutes before closing, and the place was pretty empty other than some people trying to get a car onto a tow truck… Random? They had tons of vans/​trucks sitting in the lot for renting.
I was kind of annoyed because they had a REALLY limited/​small parking lot area. There were only 5 or so spots and I BARELY squeezed into one of them… and I have a tiny car!
I really liked that they had a HUGE store! This was the second U-​Haul location I had ever been to, and this one was much larger than the first one I visited. They have tons of different packing supplies, materials, boxes etc.
When I walked in, the store was completely empty… meaning no employees either, but I think a guy saw me enter because he soon emerged from the back. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes.
Overall, decent location. Can’t say much about the truck rental procedure, but I finally got what I was looking for!

Rented a uhaul truck from another location. Ended up needing a trailer too. Called and reserved it for pick up in an hour. When we got there, the trailer couldn’t attach because part of the hitch was broken and needed to be replaced. The first person we talked to said «sorry there’s nothing we can do, it’s the last one, you’ll have to go to another location.» The next person said he could try to replace it. 30 minutes later, my boyfriend ended up replacing it because the employees couldn’t.

Poor customer service. Employees are way too slow. Will not come back to this particular U-​Haul! Boooo!

i rented a half ton pick up on a sunday around noon. the staff was friendly enough but didn’t seem to want to be there. that’s okay; i usually don’t want to be at my day job either. i would really take off a half star. the other half comes off because they close at 1700 on sundays.
the truck was awesome and made me miss the one i once had. i opted out of renting a dolly, but one was in the bed of the truck when i got to it. bonus! and it came in handy as my friends decided that they were all busy. the truck had a lot of attachment points for tie downs so i felt my things were nice and secure.
i returned the truck at 1706 and the staff told me that the computers shut down at exactly 1700, so i would be charged for an overnight. oh, well. my fault for nit getting up earlier. i was rushing and didn’t stop to refill the tank. i was expecting to be charged the ridiculous 30 $ refueling fee.
i check my electronic mail this morning and i see that i wasn’t charged for the overnight or the refueling. F it. i’m bumping it up to 5 stars. thanks guys.

When you go here to this location… you better have ALOT of time on your hands. because they are SLOW as molasses.
I prefer to go at the crack of dawn when they first open… other wise the line will be out the door… and their is NEVER more than 1 person working at the register.
I only went there today to buy some boxes… and it SUCKS that you have to WAIT in these long ass lines… behind people haggling for the truck reservations etc.
I mean come on Uhaul… You should have another register open for just purchases.
On another note: Since I was waiting in the line so long… I couldn’t help but notice one of their signs posted inside the store advertising their UHaul Storage facility in Northridge… and they have the street Lindley… listed as a street called Lindsey… DUHHHH!!!

I rented a truck here this wkend for an in-​town move and returned one from an out is state car tow last summer. Their staff are friendly and helpful. Beware though that they might take forever looking for the key to your truck.
This location is fairly small but they seem to have plenty of vehicles in stock. This location has after hours drop offs. Their key drop off hasn’t functioned in a while though cuz my first drop off was over a year ago and it’s still not fixed. They let you push the key through the top of their door but I’m short so that wasn’t happening. I was like 10 minutes late today when dropping the last truck off and I wasn’t charged an extra day :)
Their car tow attachments notes the max speed of 55mph. I however drove their smallest 3 seater truck with my car attached between 70−85mph on the fwy. Sure that wasn’t a smart thing to do but it felt pretty safe.

Everyone needs to know that you do not «reserve» a U-​Haul. In actuality, you simply let then know that you would like a moving van if they have one.
So, I had to help a friend move and offered to pick up and drop off the U-​Haul van. We rented the biggest one they offer. So, I show up just after they open to pick it up. That is when I was informed they did not have a vehicle for me.
I had reserved this weeks in advance, so I was surprised to say the least. That is when they informed me that a reservation (with deposit) does not guarantee they would have a van for me. Really, it was more of a request.
So, if you are planning a move, lining up friends to help and closing escrow, it does not matter. You can only hope they might have something available for you here, even if you have a reservation.
After making a major stink, they managed to find a vehicle. It was a large van, from who knows what year. It was very old and had thousands upon thousands of miles on it. At that point, we are behind schedule by over an hour and I cannot argue further, so I take the van.
First problem is that it is a manual transmission. I know how to drive these, but driving a manual on a large vehicle from the stone age is another story. The radio did not work. The dash lights did not work. The A/​C did not work. The brakes squeaked badly. Something electronic under the dash made a high pitched squealing sound any time I got above 40mph. The dolly in the back and blankets had the seal broken on them.
It was scary driving this, but we made the best of it and completed the move. I returned about midnight (as I told them I would) and dropped off the van. U-​Haul told me to park it on the street and drop the keys in the box. Problem was, there was no parking anywhere for a giant moving truck on either Van Nuys Blvd or Saticoy St. I was tired and nervous because this is not a safe neighborhood. I eventually settled on parking it in the Metrolink parking lot next to U-​Haul and dropping the keys as instructed.
Next morning, I get a call from them wondering where the truck is. I tell them in the metrolink lot. They inform me that it was towed away. So, I spend all morning on the phone with LAPD who claim they have no record of impounding the van.
I call up U-​Haul to tell them it must have been stolen and apparently they found the van in… the metrolink lot where I left it. Apparently they were too lazy to check when I told them and also neglected to call and tell me they found it.
I get the final bill and they overcharge me by $ 250. After 2 weeks of calling, I finally am able to get an itemized receipt. They charged me all sorts of add on’s. I was charged because the cab was not clean (left it as I found it), the blankets and dolly were used (the seal was broken when I got the truck) and a weird mileage charge they never told me about.
I try disputing with the manager and get nowhere. I finally turn to the better business bureau (which U-​Haul is a member of). With almost 3,000 complaints against them, the BBB rated them as a good business (they pay their dues is why). Anyway, complaining through the BBB gets me a form letter response from U-​Haul, that is all. I respond to their form letter and I get another form letter.
I finally gave up and disputed the charge with my credit card company. After investigating, they found in my favor and refunded me about $ 250.
This is reflective of how U-​Haul as a whole does business. I would strongly recommend renting moving equipment through a reputable company.
