Kebab Halebi

Food is amazing !
Had the chicken breast kebab AND the lule, Armenian salad and the babaganoush .
Words cant describe how good the babaganoush is at this place. Smokey in flavor and just perfectly spiced .
The waitress is really nice and even went out of her way to show us a desert that we didn’t know what it was. (Ashta)
When she brought it out I recognized it, I had it before. However I think it’s better here. Honey, pistachio, custard and tons of fruit. Oh so good !
Great experience, will be back, I even bought a side order of Garlic sauce to go.

A buddy of mine had this place cater the food for a event he hosted. The food was a hit at the event so I asked him what the name of the place and it happened to be a local establishment called Kebab Halebi. Since than I have been to this place several times. Although I am not of middle eastern descent I know good food. Halebi’s meats and food are delicious, fresh, and pack so much flavor. This food literally puts a smile on my fat face and rocks me gently to sleep .The prices are fair for the quality and portions given and they have a awesome lunch special. All I have to say is give it a shot for lunch and you will be certain to be back. A gem in our neighborhood.

This place is superb the kabobs have some of the best seasoning and flavor. The waitress was very pleasant as well I’m sure we will be returning for another great dinner

I had to meet a friend in this neighborhood last night to pick up something and had time to kill and an empty belly to fill. This spot came up on Unilocal,and I headed straight for it based on the reviews and photos. I was not lead astray.
The place is very inviting and «homey» inside with a chill vibe. My waitress, Janet, was a sweetheart and very attentive. I knew even before ordering that I wouldn’t be disappointed.
I ordered the chicken breast kabob plate with individual side orders of Mouhamara and the Fattoush Salad. This all came with a plate of pickled turnips, cabbage, one large pickle, one large green pepper and radishes as well as grilled pita bread. The lowdown:
— the pickle plate was generous and delicious — the cabbage was my favorite! (I’m a pickle/​pepper kind of gal, so this matters to me. Oh, and for you spice weenies, ask them to leave that green pepper off the plate — it’s HOT!)
— the pita bread… oh, heaven. I wish every restaurant that serves pita bread would just lightly grill/​warm it like they do here — makes all the difference in the world! (cold pita = meh)
— the garlic sauce (served with the plate) is outrageous; please don’t skip this unless you really hate garlic.
— the Fattoush Salad was perfect with large slices of cucumber and tomatoes, along with lots of crunchy pita chips and that insanely addictive lemon dressing. Very fresh & perfectly made. If you love lemon, definitely try this.
— the Mouhamara — oh, good grief! I’m running out of adjectives! Get it… just do it, trust me. It looks like dull red mush, but tastes so good, your tongue does a happy dance in your mouth. I have finally found a place that absolutely rivals Carousels in Glendale with this specialty dip. My mouth is watering just typing about it!
— the chicken kebab was super moist, well seasoned, and perfectly cooked — very flavorful and very generous in portion. I want to try other entrees on their menu when I go back, but honestly, I could just get this plate every time. AND, I took well over half home and ate it for breakfast and lunch today (yes, I woke up ready for all that flavor again first thing in the morning!)
— Rice — so many places blow it when it comes to the rice and you just end up with a bland white pile that can only be eaten with lots of seasoning. Not here… nope…here the rice is creamy (although it did not taste buttered — perhaps a little olive oil?), lightly salted (very lightly, but for those of you watching your salt, do not add any) and, honestly, is a standalone. I could just order the Fattoush, Mouhamara and a side of rice for a perfect vegan meal if I wanted to!
To say I enjoyed my food here is an understatement. I don’t live anywhere near the place, but I’m going back and taking my friends who, like me, love this type of flavorful, fresh cuisine.
P. S. I met one of the two brothers who own the place. Very nice gentlemen, as welcoming and sweet as Janet. This place is family owned and it shows.

We happened upon this restaurant accidentally but were certainly not let down by our experience. It was fantastic. To begin with, our waitress was extremely friendly and hospitable. She made excellent recommendations and even brought us a couple of small samples to try. We had the Adana kebab, Babaganoush, Greek salad and Mouhamara. Everything was just great. Well seasoned and very flavorful. For dessert we had the homemade baklava which was outstanding. We will definitely be visiting again.

Josh Lurie posted a fantastic story on Eater LA, complete with great photos, so I ventured over here to see how it compared to Hayat’s Kitchen.
Found it to be friendly, family run, gracious. We were seated in another room to the left that was filled with lunchtime guests, comprised of local office workers, older women and families.
The first surprise was the gigantic sized appetizers of green chile peppers, radishes and sour pickled vegetables that was very nice.
I ordered a lunchtime special of grilled kebabs with a side order of Mouhamara and a «green» salad. My friend had a chicken breast kebab plate.
A bad note was the green salad. It was drenched in dressing and soggy and wilted. Not at all the way to serve a salad. It seemed to have been pre-​made and soaked in sauce. It compared badly to other salads I’ve had where the greens are crisp and fresh and the dressing is used sparingly or served on the side.
The room we sat in was adjacent to the bathrooms, and that smell of a strawberry air freshener perfumed the dining area. A few times I went back to close the bathroom doors because the scent kept drifting into the dining area. It would be better to have no air freshener at all than the one we smelled.
But I want to give this place another try. They really do serve some excellent food. I saw other plates that looked mouth-​watering and authentic. The prices are reasonable and the menu is a very good value.

Just had it dinner and never disappoints how good this place is. I had to get it for dinner tonight after what happened last Friday at lunch. I would have given then 5 stars, but on Friday tried to call in an order and they couldn’t do it, cause it was so busy and didn’t want to food to take too long. Call you orders in earlier than 12:30pm.

We heard about this place from friends and decided to drop in. It was amazing! Our waitress, Janet was extremely gracious and helpful, not to mention fast! The food was fantastic! We ordered the Antakalia Kabob, Chicken Kabob, Muhamara, and Hummus and each of the dishes was delicious. We know how good food is supposed to taste from this region, and this place rates very highly in terms of quality, freshness and taste. Enjoy! Sahtain! Bön Appétit!

Came here for the first time today ¹²⁄₂₂ around 6pm. Our waitress was super friendly. I ordered the chicken breast kebab plate. WOW! The chicken breast was moist & cooked to it’s perfect point. The rice was a tad bit bland but the other flavors on the plate made up for it. My uncle had the beef shish kebab & couldn’t have been more satisfied.

I am lost for words… I just left and couldn’t wait to write a review. The waitress Janet is super nice and friendly service was superb. Now on to the food…
Appetizer we ordered Hummus it was excellent then Ordered 1 plate filet beef and 1 combo plate (chicken and lulu kebab) the filet and chicken was very fresh and tender with marinated spices that I have never had anywhere else. This course was accompanied by rice, pita bread, salad and pickles. I took pictures of all the dishes please enjoy. And fir the grande finale the Ashta which is an Arabic dessert our version of a flan.

Anyway! I was in Van Nuys and I know there are a lot of good Mexican spots around here but I am skeptical of the middle eastern places here. Came in today and a young man greeted me at the register. I didn’t know what one of sides on the lunch special was, so he kindly brought me a sample. It was actually good but I decided to go with the hummus and pilaf. This place looks clean and it smells good in here. I think your dinner prices are a little overpriced, but I definitely love the lunch special menu.

Delicious! I had a lot of help from previous reviews. The borek is like upscale pizza rolls (but a million times better). Everything is beautifully prepared, huge portions and tastes fantastic.

This is the best kebab place we’ve been to so far. Me and my boyfriend love to try different cuisine and this place stands out! Customer service is also great

Good Mediterranean food in a strip mall location. Had the chicken thighs and beef. Great flavor on both even though the beef was a little salty. They also cooked it medium rare, just the way I like it. Lunch portions are huge and only $ 10. Lunch specials are Tuesday thru Friday 11am — 3pm

Good babaghanoush and garlic cream sauce mmm. Food was well cooked the place was nice and quiet. They give you a lot of foood alot of pita bread. Great service too not bad for my first time there

I was sold when I found out that Serj Tankian (of Armenian descent) of the band System of the Down, visited this place in a shopping center in Van Nuys. Since I am getting older, I’m trying to eat healthier diet so Kebab Halebi was the perfect choice for dinner.
I was told that the recommended items were any of the top 4 kebab items. I decided to get the chicken and beef kebabs. The time from ordering and receiving the dishes was very quick. They promptly delivered a plate of pickled vegetables which consisted of a large chili, cabbage, turnip and cucumber. Not so long later, they brought over the kebabs covered in pita bread with a side of onions topped with sumac. A moment later, they brought a plate of rice pilaf.
Both kebabs were perfectly flavored, but not the best I’ve had. Some pieces of the beef were tender and some were a bit chewy. The chicken was delicious, but not as juicy as I’ve had as Alcazar. They also gave me a side of garlic paste which was one of the strongest flavored I’ve ever had. If you love garlic, you will love their version. It has more of garlic kick than what you’ll find at any other restaurant.
A great kebab option if you live in the Valley and want to try a Armenian-​Syrian restaurant.

This place is family owned. The food is excellent from the vegetarian dishes to all the meat dishes. If you love middle eastern food you will enjoy this place a lot. The food always fresh and good. If you are alone or with a large group you will be seated and treated with excellent customer service.
The food portion are very nice size so you will not go home hungry. They have a private parking lot or street parking. You will never have a parking issue. The location is central in the SF Valley. Hands down one of the best kabob places in town. The food melts in your mouth.

Anyone who has EVER attended an Armenian picnic in the summer and enjoyed AUTHENTIC lamb shish– kebab, with babaganouj, jajik, yalanchi, etc. Owes it to the memory to go to Kebab Halebi. This is the real deal! And if you haven’t had the pleasure, you really should check this out! The service is terrific, Janice wants to make your dining experience perfect!
What a hidden gem!

I decided to give Kebob Helebi a try for take-​out over the weekend. The restaurant is located inside a strip lot on corner of Sherman Way/​Sepulveda Blvd.
The dining area is divided into two small sections. Red draperies, maple tables, cushioned seating, overhanging sconces, wood beams ceilings give it a cozy and modern feel.
I walked in the door and wasn’t greeted. I sought for a friendly and welcoming face. Instead, I had to make the first verbal contact. I told the gentleman behind the counter that I was ordering to go and he looked at me with odd look of surprise expecting me to dine in. My order was finally taken, deciding on the chicken breast kabob and beef kabob plate. Both modestly priced at $ 15 each.
It was ready in reasonable time and portions were ample. The rice was packed in separate containers. Grilled tomatoes, seasoned onions, pickled cucumber, cabbage and pita bread was included with my meal. All were average, not that bad. Both the chicken and meat were tender and flavorful. The garlic sauce that accompanied it was a nice compliment.
My one main critique was that their rice wasn’t basmati, but instead was rice pilaf (aka Uncle Bens). I actually prefer basmati for its delicious flavor, fluffier texture and sensuous aroma. A main staple in most Middle Eastern cuisine. It had hint taste of coconut which I thought was odd.
I guess overall I was expecting a little more with all the positive reviews. The food was fine, but nothing amazing.
Parking — shared with other business and restaurants, challenging during lunch/​dinner rush hour.
