We stayed downtown and picked this place based on Unilocal review. Great little diner! Loved the heritage of the region captured with availability of Polish sausage for breakfast. The hash browns were excellent too, very crisp. Server was an authentically sweet lady.

Pretty good service, super kind waiter! but i was pretty disappointed with the food, the toast was burnt and very buttery. I got an vegetable omelette and it was very bland, and the fries. i was hoping to like this place because of all the rave about it!

My lady and I stopped in for a quick bite and coffee this morning. Upon tasting the coffee, and determining it to be quite unsatisfactory, my lady expressed her disappointment with the product and promptly declared that she was no longer interested in it. The waitress became rude and went on to accuse my lady of being wasteful and stated that it was not a nice thing to do. News flash, in the food industry you provide a consumable product to a paying customer. In the event of that product being mediocre, getting rude with the customer is absolutely the wrong thing to do. It is detrimental to a successful business model. You do not berate your customers for their dissatisfaction with your subpar product. In conclusion, this alarmingly poor demonstration of customer service and product quality has not only eliminated new additions to the businesses customer base, but it has also generated an active discouragement of patronage for this establishment.

Jimmy’s café is a wonderful little café that a wife & husband have been running them selves for over 35 years! The food is amazing quality made with love & great flavored. The French toast was fluffy & flavorful. The juice & butter is fresh as can be. I’ve dined at this spot a total of 5 times & loved everything about this mom & pop shop. I’ve told everyone about this place & all locals love it as much as I do! They are closed for a few weeks vacation every summer. True definition of work hard play hard. Keep up the good job & tell a friend because they won’t be disappointed.

Breakfast & Lunch fast! In and out in 25 minutes or less with excellent food! Lemon Rice soup is the best in the area. Been there 50 – 75 times at least and never had a bad meal. Very reasonably priced! Owners are extremely nice and care about their patrons!

Great place. Worth the 3 minute drive off of US30 in VALPO. mom and pop great food and service eggs cooked perfect and the best American fries I have had an quite some time. Reasonable prices. Great value compared to Bob Evans chain and the food is WAY better. But, bring cash as they do t accept any cards.

Great little local breakfast spot in Valpo, you really can’t go wrong. The spinach and feta omelet is fantastic and so are the hash browns. I love small family owned restaurants and their service shines through with a comfy, relaxed old town vibe.

I have been here several times and never disappointed. The food comes out very fast and they don’t skimp on the portions. The best part about this place is the owner, who is about the sweetest lady I’ve ever met. The very first time I went I didn’t have any cash(they don’t take credit), yet she insisted I take the food and just pay her the next day, which pretty much made my day. Have been there several times since and never disappointed. Mamma maria is a living saint.

We ate here today. There was not anything mind blowing about the place. Dated décor and decent greasy breakfast food. I ordered french toast and it was good, but some pieces were soggy like they hadn’t cooked all the way through. Over all ok for the money you’ll spend.(I would advise against the bacon and sausage patties.. seemed like premade and recooked pieces)

Expensive for a greasy spoon. The coffee tasted like aluminum. The staff could have cared less that I was trying to flag them down. Eek! Methinks not is an understatement. It’s hard to imagine this was just a bad day for this place… But I suppose it’s possible.

When in Valpo, ask 10 people and at least half of them will point you to Jimmy’s for breakfast and/or brunch. I finally gave it a try. Jimmy’s is a family-run diner with the standard breakfast fare offered at economical prices. The place is tiny and there is only one server. Our table of six waited 15 minutes for a table and another 15 minutes to place our orders. There was also a long lag in food delivery. Needless to say, our experience was heavily shadowed by this waiting game. Fortunately, this is Valpo and street parking is free. Otherwise, that would’ve been a hefty parking fee in the big city. I had the standard breakfast of egg, sausage links, hash brown, and toast. Everything was well made. The hash brown was particularly pleasing. The top layer was excellently pan-fried to golden brown with a slight crisp whereas the bottom layer was soft and warm. One of my friends had the gryo omelette. It’s not the usual breakfast entrée but it was unique and surprisingly tasty. Despite the disappointment with the slow service, most of us enjoyed our entrees. Every plate was cleared down to the last few pieces of crumbs.

Great diner breakfasts, the fastest service I have ever experienced anywhere, and friendly staff make this place our go to for breakfast. They will make sure your hash browns are crispy if you so request. At many places the server will write it down and the potatoes still come out a little limp, not here.

This place has been around a long time and it shows. They have all kinds of memorabilia on the walls. 80’s music was even playing when we stepped in for a weekday lunch. There is kind of a woodsy, greek, americana vibe going on. The menu was simple and the pricing was good. My companion ordered the olive burger. A must for anyone from Michigan or anywhere else for that matter. It was good. I had the half sized athenian salad. It was good as well. The pricing is great and as expected for a café like Jimmys.

Jimmy’s is just the sort of diner I love to go to on a Sunday morning after a rough weekend. Friendly staff and a bunch of food cooked in butter. Yeah, that’s right… butter. No canola oil nonsense here, they know what tastes good and man do they do it up. I had two eggs over medium and hash browns, and all were cooked perfectly. Let me once again note — in butter! MMMmmmmm… As other reviewers have noted, they only take cash here, so keep that in mind. I tend to live in a cashless world, so it’s good to know to come prepared.

Today was the day of second choices. We came here when I found out the first place did not open until five. We sat in a booth in the back as were serviced promptly. I got the club with bacon. When it came out it was cut up into four triangles as usual. But the loaf was a bit small. The sandwich tasted great, as did the fries. My friend had the caesar salad and it came slathered in homemade dressing. The only complaint is that the croutons on his salad were fried and they tasted like fish sticks? The place is a bit dated. They had a baby picture on the wall of someone who is probably 40 by now. But the service and the food are spot on.

We were in Valpo visiting some friends and decided to go here before our train ride back to the city. We were greeted and allowed to choose where we sat. Water was brought to the table promptly and orders for drinks were taken. Food orders were not taken until the menus were placed on the table, but that may have been a coincidence. Everyone ordered breakfast(gyros omelet, steak & eggs, french toast) and i ordered the turkey club. Food was fast but it did not all come out together. The do not take credit/debit so make sure you have cash. A man at the register did not have cash and was allowed to leave, go to an ATM, and come back to pay. All in all if was a good experience. They have limited hours(open only until 2−3pm)

Best place in the area for breakfast. Great food and lightening fast service. If you are in Valpo, do yourself a favor and get to Jimmy’s, say hello to Maria and have some pancakes. Freaking great! If you can’t have the pancakes or want to add something to your pancakes, I strongly recommend a cheese omlette. It comes with a mound of breakfast potatoes and toast. Lastly, if you miss breakfast… their burgers are good and their reuben is awesome! I have dreams about this place and will make it a point to take my kids there.
