Just got off the phone with yet another incompetent employee of Dr. Firestone’s. I’ll try and be brief with my review since my issue with this office spans an entire YEAR. I originally came to Dr. Firestone on August 7^th, 2013. The main reason I chose his office was because he accepted the type of dental insurance that was provided by the company I worked for. The appointment went fine as it was just a routine cleaning. Dr. Firestone was nice enough, poked around my mouth a bit and cracked a few jokes. I finished my appt. with a set of x-​rays and a «reminder postcard» that they would mail me once it was time for my next cleaning.
Then the billing issues began. The company I worked for shut its doors only a few weeks later, subsequently canceling any further coverage from that point on. «Fine,» I thought, since I was still covered at the time of the actual appt. «There should be no problem, right?»
WRONG. Once October hit, I started receiving bills/​invoices that totaled ridiculous amounts for procedures that had NEVER been performed on me. Additionally, there was a charge for another appointment on Halloween — again, must have been an impostor, because I was only there the one time in August. And when I tried contacting the «billing dept.» (which I’m pretty sure consists of one person) it was nearly impossible to reach anyone because «billing is only here on Wednesdays and Fridays.» And even then, they might not show up… how do I know? Because I’ve only been calling on those days, in hopes that I might actually talk to a human being.
I won’t bore you with the details, but after an entire YEAR of calling Dr. Firestone’s office to be met with empty apologies and no solutions, then calling my dental insurance to correct the problems that the staff at Dr. Firestone’s office had created, and STILL receiving an invoice dated for TODAY — September 9, 2014 — for yet a completely DIFFERENT payment amount and a big bright orange «FINAL NOTICE: pay now or you’ll will be sent to collections» sticker, I have finally had enough. This is absolutely absurd and borderline harassment that no «insured member» should ever have to go through.
So, this is a warning to all who consider going to get your dental work done here. While the Doc, himself, may be pleasant, you might be left with a yearlong headache following your procedure, thanks to the ladies (or lady) in billing. Look at me, I’m still waiting to get my issue (s) resolved.

Dr Firestone has been my dentist for more than 20 years. Prior to finding him, I had a huge fear of dentists. Drilling into un-​numbed nerves, singing and spraying saliva into my face, pulling teeth instead of trying to save them– this was my previous experience. Dr Firestone and his staff are great. They make you comfortable in your chair, ask if you want to watch or listen to anything, ask how you have been since the last visit and do it all with such a fun and caring attitude. Where else will you find an office that puts a stuffed animal under your knees to make you comfortable? Who else has stickers on the overhead light? Name another dentist who will massage your neck after treatment, because of a recent auto injury. Dr Firestone and his staff do all of this and more. If I could give more stars, I would.

It’s been a couple of years since I reviewed this office, but an emergency yesterday has prompted an update.
I was eating an orange, of all things, when I chomped down and hit something hard… obviously part of a tooth, I thought it was a crown that had come off. I called the office, and although they’d finished for the day, told me to come right in and I did.
It turns out that my tooth had fractured through an old filling. Dr. Firestone proceeded to bond it back together in an attempt to save the underlying tooth base.
I had no pain during the procedure, and am following up in two days.
This is typical of the level of service that I get here, and is why I’d not consider going elsewhere. I am a medical doctor, and observe that this office uses the best equipment and most modern procedures. And they really try to avoid pain!

Absolutely loved my experience here from start to finish. I was having a bit of pain and they were able to get me in within hours. The entire staff was amazing. Such a beautiful, relaxing atmosphere too. Dr. Firestone is wonderful, caring and experienced. Can’t say enough good things, best dentist ever!

David Firestone has been my dentist for over 20 years. I moved… came back to L.A. …and back I am his patient!
He’s so knowledgable… his artistic eye is great (for cosmetic work.). He is a sensitive funny person (a plus for a dentist) and… he just does wonderful dental work… and is charming. I’d travel far for his great service.

I woke up with my face swollen like the Elephant Man. Could not reach my regular dentist, his office was closed. Went to Unilocal and found Dr. Firestone. He’s one of the best dentists I’ve ever met. Very personable, a bit of a maverick, has homey office décor. He helped me even though it was his day off. This is a very good dentist but save him some grief and don’t be like me, make an appointment first!

David Firestone has been my dentist for over 25 years and I would totally recommend him 100%. I have had a lot of dental problems through my life, and he has always been there and solved the mysteries of what was going on and how to treat it. My teenage son is his patient as well. He loves going to the office to see the added extra pleasure of 2 very cute doggies that greet him and play. David and staff makes your visit to the dentist a most positive one. You can watch a film, a TV show, or listen to music during your procedure. David always is checking in as he is working on your dental issue, during a procedure, to ask if you are all right, any pain, and there’s even comic relief, as he has a great sense of humor, which I appreciate to not get so stressed and so serious as so many of us can in the dental chair. He will always be my dentist, for sure!

As always, I’m hesitant to try a new Dr. because there are so many terrible ones out there.
But, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice Dr. Firestone is! His front desk staff is amazing and friendly. He comes out and has real conversations with his patients and his back office staff is extremely friendly as well. He tells you everything you are going to feel before he starts and will address all your concerns.
I would definitely recommend Dr Firestone to anyone that needs a dentist.
I was also greeted by the two dogs mentioned by another reviewer. They are extremely friendly and hypoallergenic. I’m allergic to dogs and I had no reaction to these little guys. They even come and lick your hand while Dr Firestone is working on you. Its quite funny and definitely makes you feel like you’re not in a dentists office.
Also, his treatment rooms all have giant sliding glass doors that open to a yard with a babbling brook, plants and greenery. Definitely calming for people who are afraid of the dentist.

Simply… the best. Comfortable atmosphere you won’t want to leave! TV’s! Great music! The waterfalls! Rocky and Willie! Dr. Firestone will put you at ease and works to make sure you are 110% happy when you leave (again, if you leave). Lalani and the staff are friendly and work with you to get you in to see Dr. Firestone at the best times. He has all the latest equipment and damn fine coffee.

Dr. Firestone is a caring and wonderful dentist. He tries to take your mind off dentistry stocking his office with magazines, photography, movies to watch while he’s working etc. Pain free experience and a committed fantastic doctor. The best!

Doctor Firestone is the best! I wanted to cry after finding his office. Finally a great dentist.
Why should you listen to me?
Learn from my mistakes:
I have been through the
1) Beverly Hills dentist who gave me terrible advice and charged me three times what the going rate was, sending my credit into a downward spiral.
2) The dentist who did a good job but had a crap personality giving me hives every time I left.
3) The dentist who kept me waiting for eons EVERY SINGLE TIME and then sprayed my face with shards of my own teeth while sloppily and brutally drilling the poor things.
4) The dentist who overbooked but drilled on me anyhow and had me lying on the table waiting for him to return for over an hour while I lay there nearly choking on my own blood.
5) The dentist who filled a tooth without getting rid of all the cavity causing the cavity to grow, expand and become a super entity.
6) The dentist who made me a mouth guard that did nothing but cost plenty and made me want to throw up every time I took it out in the morning.
I have been ill-​advised and robbed and have been gullible and trusting. And now, I’m a bitch on wheels. I’m pissed off and have developed a hatred of dentists through the years. Sorta like mechanics.
Imagine my surprise when my bitch factor had to be chucked by the door after meeting Dr. Firestone. Finally after more dentists than I can count, I have found my dentist.
First off, he’s incredibly gentle, takes his time, does great work and makes sure you are okay. When is the last time a dentist stopped after five minutes of drilling to let your jaw rest? A first for me with Dr. Firestone! I had a tooth prepared for a crown and for the first time ever my jaw doesn’t hurt after the work. He also does all the little touches like putting chapstick on your lips before he works so you don’t dry out, and giving you a movie to watch so your mind is occupied and not freaking out about the drilling. He also tells you to breathe through the initial novocaine shot which no dentist has ever told me before… and wow, what a difference, it barely hurt!
Not only that, he has a great sense of humor, the office is gorgeous, everyone is so nice and he works with you so you can afford treatment. Lastly, he isn’t enamored with himself — in that he’s not going to give you a two thousand dollar porcelain composite on a tooth that needs a crown just because it’s pretty and a challenge to make look nice. Yes this happened to me TWICE by two different dentists who had such egos that they didn’t even advise a crown, which was what it needed, but put in a pretty porcelain inlay which promptly broke down TWICE. I thought it was me when it should’ve been a crown put on the tooth! I wouldn’t have had to have the tooth redone three times if I’d seen Dr. Firestone to begin with. Dr. Firestone believes in doing something ONCE not three times.
Dr. Firestone in a nutshell — no monkeying around bleeding you of money, get the job done once, get it done RIGHT. Wow, nice concept!

My husband and I have been going to Dr. Firestone for a good five years now. He is very good at fitting us in for emergencies, and I really appreciate that I am rarely kept waiting more than 3 – 5 minutes when I have an appointment. A very well-​run tooth shop!

I had an emergency and Dr Firestone took me right away. He was recommmended by my dentist and he was great. Nice receptionist too and 2 adorable doggies.
