Lake Camanche Recreation Company – South Shore

I love boating here however that won’t happen anytime soon it was shocking to see how low the water is hopefully by summer it’ll be back up pray for more rain.

I love going to south shore. I haven’t been to north shore yet though. South shore is well kept. Has a nive general store, the employees are very nice, and it has good showers as well. I usually stay on the Monument Campsite and in fact we are going tomorow. I can’t wait.

I have been going to Camanche since I was a kid and have always had a soft spot in my heart for this lake. Because of this, I began a new family tradition where we would rent a pontoon boat and enjoy a trip to the lake where the whole family (kids, grandparents, etc) could get together and enjoy the water. The lake has been fabulous, even with the drought. the only reason they do not get five stars from me is because of the antiqued reservation system which has caused heartburn and stress on more than one occasion. My only recommendation is until they change their system to send out confirmations immediately is to call back the day after making reservations to ensure that the person you spoke with did indeed properly add your reservation. I would like to add that the management was awesome and did almost everything in their power to make sure we were taken care of and happy despite us losing our reservations. We highly recommend this lake. :)

Lots of lake for jetski even during drought. It’s not the prettiest lake but it will do.
Entrance is $ 12 per car. If you bring your dog it’s $ 5 dog fee, boo!

First time staying here at monument RV park. (we’ve stayed at north shore primitive sites before) It was nice. The sites are close together but it’s easy to forget you have neighbors. people weren’t to rowdy and seemed to honor the quiet hours. People were partying, but not obnoxiously. It looks like too can also have a tent with the RV, which can be nice for kids or extra adults. The rv parked is paved nicely, perfect for bikes, strollers and other wheeled things (rc cars!)I didn’t give it five stars because the store is outrageously overpriced! Even for day use I would make sure not to by too much here. And not five stars because the boat ramp area (the temp site) way over crowded. There was no designated parking after launching so people parked wherever, mostly blocking the area needed to launch and maneuver your vehicle. People cut us off unintentionally cause it was so disorganized you can’t really tell whose coming or going. There is only one side to launch from so be prepared (weekends) to wait 30 min or more to launch or load.
As a safety precaution, watch your strollers on the“path“around the trout pond, we saw a lady lose her stroller in it, with her baby strapped in! luckily people were close by and saved the baby. Maybe a «safe» viewing area would be good to have. Besides that, awesome place, nice people and family and pet friendly (monument RV park)

Love this place! We have been here at least 6 or 7 times and are never disappointed. The kids, the adults and the dogs all have such a great time here. We have a certain spot that fits our needs perfectly and are able to request it each time with no problems. Already planning another trip for next month!

I’ve been camping here a few times and I have been here for the day quite a few times and I have never, ever, ran into the people that have been described in some of these reviews! I guess I don’t stay in the wrong right places!
The horse camping at Turkey Hill is awesome! The pens are safe for the horses and most have shade most of the day. Water near by, nice camping rings, easy trailer parking… not much to complain about. The only reason I gave four instead of five stars is because the pens are super close to each other and some horses are biters. Also the sites are a little closer than I like. but certainly not a deal breaker by any means.
The trails are nice and clean and offer a lot for a variety of levels, from beginner to intermediate.
Overall, I recommend this to friends and family and I go every chance I get.

After three trips spanning three years I am sad to say that this is not the place for families.
The first year we went, we stayed at North Shore. It was hot and dirty with little to no trees. The campgrounds were packed with the some pretty questionable people. Most of which were there to get as drunk as they could with little to no concern about campsites near where they were partying.
The following two years we made reservations at South Shore. Although South Shore was somewhat cleaner it was still populated with just enough morons to ruin it.
First of all, people need to learn to control their kids at 6AM. Don’t let them run all around the campgrounds raising hell.
Next check your subwoofer and your gansta rap when you are tied up to the beach. Vacation is not the time I really didnt want to explain why your songs all include «Mutha F’-in this and that», «Tap dat azz» in each chorus to my kids.
Also…keep your ghetto Pit Bull Terriers on a friggin leash. Otherwise you will get to explain to your bros back in the ghetto why Thor the pit bull came home from camping in a plastic bag.
Lastly, if you are going to knock off a piece while camping, do it in your tent. I don’t really want my sons first sexual experience to be watching two 300 #‘s rolling around in the dirt like two bear cubs fighting over a chicken bone.
I guess when you see a campground filled with Denali’s that have spinners on the rims its a pretty good indicator that weekend will suck.

From the friendly gate staff to the helpful store/​marina staff, and the guys at the SS Grill, all the way to the management Lake Camanche exceeded our expectations this weekend. Great site in Monument, great water, friendly staff. What more could you ask for. Can’t wait to go back!

Great place! There were tons of clean restrooms, lots of recycle and garbage cans, and very nice sites. They were all flat and had plenty of space. The water was very clean and warm.
Some of the other campers were loud and using some language not appropriate around kids, but that is not something Lake Camanche can control When some people were playing there music loud at night the Rangers were there to tell them to turn it down. This is not a race thing. Just some disrespectful campers of all types.
The only one negative I had was there were no food lockers. It wasn’t that big of a deal, but just surprised.

I hadn’t been to Lake Camanche for many years and I wanted to take some friends there to show them what a neat place this was… Well, not exactly anymore. My friends and I were not impressed by the conditions at Monument RV Park. As I was backing my rig into my site I was almost broad-​sided by some jerk that was speeding and had to slam on his brakes in order to miss my trailer. We parked in our site and it was extremely steep, but that was livable. As we looked around our site it was littered with dog feces, garbage, cigarette butts, and limbs that had been cut from a tree and just left at the base of a small tree. The dog feces was disgusting and had to be raked up before we in it.
The electrical kept kicking the circuit breaker at my friends site and at my site the 30 amp plug was completely burned out and the box was damaged by what appeared to be a fire by one of the previous tenants. The speeding vehicles continued the entire time we were there with many children playing in the roadway. It created a very dangerous situation. I witnessed the lady from site #56 walk her two Boxers across from me and allowed them both to defecate without picking it up, and the lady from site #54 who was with the other lady take her two poodles and do the same thing. The people in site #76 allowed their 2 dogs to run loose the entire weekend running out to the street every time someone walked their dog by. I have no idea why the people responsible don’t install dog poop bag stations around the park. I’m sure they can afford it as they sure aren’t spending any money on improvements.
The sewer hookup at the sites are located above the site so you have to get out and lift your hose so it will drain. The sites are very steep so be careful.
All in all, Lake Camanche is still a nice place to visit but at the rates they charge for the RV Park makes it a no go for me. Premium rates for a low class RV park. The employees are to be commended for having to work in such conditions.

Went camping here last weekend. Had a blast! The water is pretty low but it’s pretty clear and clean! I love to camp so I have absolutely nothing to complain about this place! We stayed at Site# 321 Coyote Flat which is so close to the water! The only thing about this area is there isn’t a working stout to wash your dishes so I had to use the water fountain and there are only portable restrooms. So if you want flushing toilets and a shower, you will have to drive to the other side which isn’t a huge problem at all! Heck your camping! But we grabbed some chairs and umbrella and parked ourselves by the beach for half the day! It was about 100 degrees so being in the water most of the day cooled us off! We will definitely be back!

I camped here for a week and loved it! Clean working bathrooms, free hot water showers, washer and dryer, and sink, also a cleaning station for fish. Price was right (off season $ 8.00). There is great fishing, thye have a trout and a catfish lake which are stocked well, we caught some huge fish. Boating rentals are reasonable, we rented a pontoon boat and it was great.
