Touro University is indeed a gem to behold! Ten years ago when I was a wee lass, I visited Touro University when I was in the National Youth Leadership Forum(NYLF) on Medicine and now it comes to a full circle! After doing my research as a diligent pre-med, Touro has an osteopathic medical school with other graduate programs as well. Interested in their school, my friend and I scheduled a shadowing opportunity with their outreach admin/faculty. One of the shadowing opportunities they offer is for the OMM Lab(osteopathic manipulative medicine) where one can sit in their medical school class alongside their real medical students and learn! I shadowed one of their cranial OMM labs, and it was fascinating especially since I was into neurobio/psych. Their professor was very thorough in explaining the various ways on how to locate cranial anatomy and how to connect with the patient. Each student rotated and had a chance to practice OMM and experience it as well. From the time of initial contact to the end of my shadowing, Touro faculty and students were very accommodating and positively receptive. Big shoutouts to my medical student mentors, Jessie and Yvonne, who showed me the ropes and Jessie even performed OMM on me! Great time with wonderful people!

The program you are in truly dictates the quality of education you will receive at Touro. I would not go here for an MPH with what I know now. Professors skip courses, show up, review sessions are cancelled, grades are not received for months, financial aid checks come 6 weeks late and they have no direct deposit system… The list goes on and on. There are also a handful of competent professors. The majority are adjuncts and could care less about helping students. I stopped showing up the last month and still got all A’s. If your looking for a lesson in corruption, disorganization and big business values this is the perfect school to attend.

Campus located on an island and by the coast guards station… First drove into the campus, saw a lot of abandoned buildings… Came here for an interview… friendly staff… campus is a bit small but as long as you get your education done and have good professors, the appearance of the campus shouldn’t matter too much. However, I do think that the library is rather small for a graduate school campus. it’s only one story and it’s actually smaller than an standard city library… You can probably only fit 200 students? I guess at least since it’s in the middle of no where, you can actually focus on your studies instead of doing anything else.

For such a high tuition cost, they could barely get a working wireless connection in some classrooms on campus. The facilities are way below average and the school is understaffed when it comes to the clinical education department(the one that deals with rotations) which is perhaps the most important thing.
