Meet the Business Owner

Mansour Z.

Business Owner

Though reticent to discuss himself, Mansour Zand might, if you’re lucky, let you in on how he ended up in Vale from halfway around the world (with a detour on the way to Los Angeles where he owned two restaurants on Rodeo Drive, both frequented by the likes of Doris Day and Jack Palance). His most common explanation, however, is that, «The whole thing is fate.»

It was 1982 when Mr. Zand left the glitz and glamour of Beverly Hills for the solitude and bucolic atmosphere of the Piedmont. His only

requirement? «I knew I wanted a property with water,» he says. What he found was an old farmhouse on 70 acres of rolling hills with two creeks and five springs.

The farmhouse, which now contains an elegant dining room and lavish kitchen, was originally only two rooms with no indoor plumbing. Mr. Zand lived in a tent on the property while completing all of the renovations and additions himself.
