Friendly people. Food is good with good prices. Some portions aren’t perfect but wouldn’t stop me from recommending it.

We stopped in at first sight of the«best BBQ in the world» sign. The place is the type of shack you’d expect really good BBQ to come out of, with two old wooden picnic tables out front. We ordered two large pork sandwiched and two sides of baked beans and potato salad. The pork was good, however the sauce was a bit sweet for my taste. The buns of the sandwich were just two slices of white bread. Needless to say we ate the sandwiches with a fork. The beans were excellent and the potato salad was good. It was all just a bit expensive for a quick stop during a road trip.

Four of us ate here for lunch. We all had the pulled pork sandwiches, some cole slaw and potato salad. It was ok, but nothing to write home about. The BBQ is full of sauce and while I do like BBQ sauce, this was way too sloppy. A good smoked meat should be able to stand on it’s own and the sauce should be purely optional. This was like a pulled pork Sloppy Joe. The prices are too high for a hole in the wall. You can get better BBQ in an air conditioned restaurant for less money. Oh, and they don’t make collard greens every day. If you’re just passing through, do yourself a favor and just grab a Subway sandwich and get your BBQ somewhere else. We all left unsatisfied. Thank goodness we had some Rolaids in the car because we sure needed them after this stop.

I knew we had to go the instant I saw it: Big Ed’s «Best in the world» Bar-b-q. Yes, you can judge a restaurant by its exterior, especially when there is only an exterior. On arriving, we interrupted the lady at the window from talking to truckers on her CB radio long enough to realize we needed cash. Not too hard to gather, but I want to save you our mistake. We beat a hasty retreat to a gas station ATM(yes, it’s worth the service charge) and returned salivating. We were more successful on our second go. I had the barbecue dinner, which consisted of pulled pork, bread, baked beans, potato salad, and a won’t-fit-in-your-cup-holder iced tea. Everything was wonderful. The beans do have some cinnamon. It was a beautiful day, so we sat out on their picnic tables for awhile and talked to an employee about life at Ed’s(Ed was out that day). I noticed a couple of the regulars ordering ribs, so next time.. .

I had pulled pork beans and corn. Pork had ample sauce and was tender. All items were a bit sweet for my taste and the beans actually had a hint of cinnamon. Nice place to sit out on on one of the two well weathered Picnic tables and chat with the steady stream of trucker regulars. Next time I will try the pork chop special since all the truckers were ordering that

Anyone who knows BBQ knows that the BESTBBQ comes from shacks! The more dilapidated, the better. If you’re going south on I-75 on your way to Florida and you’re craving some delicious BBQ, get off at exit 11 and take a right. Big Ed’s is right next to the BP gas station on the left. We usually get the pulled pork sandwich and collard greens. The sauce is a bit on the sweet side. The flavors are great! We definitely stop here whenever we can. It’s not open on Sundays, I believe.
