Business Owner

Amy has been training dogs for over 15 years. She was the manager of an SPCA for almost nine years and is still very active in the shelter community. She has been a guest lecturer at the CA state humane association. Her work with abandoned dogs has taught her the importance of good training and proper owner education. She actively competes in several dog sports with her personal dogs and client dogs including competitive obedience, rally-o, dock jumping, agility, conformation and protection sports. Her dogs have received numerous High in Trials including at National events, breed awards, best in show awards and National records. Her current dogs hold titles in over 10 different dog sports! She continues her growth as a trainer through ongoing education and seminars.

Amy believes that dog training requires clear and balanced communication. She employs balanced and scientifically based training methods, proper exercise, mental stimulation and consistent clear cut boundaries.

We entrusted our rambunctious, impulsive 18 month old labrador, Maggie, to Amy’s care. Maggie came home very well behaved — no more jumping up on us, bouncing on our little, older dog, pulling on leash, etc. Maggie has been home 2 weeks now and I couldn’t be happier. The icing on the cake was that Maggie was very happy to see Amy when we had our follow-up lesson the other day. Maggie was so happy to see her. Not only did Maggie get trained but she had fun! Amy offers boarding and we have booked her for both dogs during our vacation.

I can not give enough praise to Amy. Finding her was the best thing we have done for both of our dogs (we have a 4 year old smaller mix and a 6 month old larger breed puppy… Both rescues with breed unknown)… AND US! A few specific things that I REALLY like.
1. She does not judge or preach — She won’t set the rules for your dogs, you do… And she shows you how to make it happen. You get to use the time to train the things that fit your personal needs, well beyond the standard behaviors you learn in some programs.
2. She comes to your home — totally worth the money for in home training. Working in their environment helps in my opinion. Also, I have a new baby and having someone come to me was the difference between being able to train (in order to keep) the puppy my husband brought home when I was 9 months pregnant (yes– he really did that) and not.
3. She knows what she is doing! She is consistent and it works. Training dogs is really about training the owner and she really sets you up for success! We noticed a significant difference after just the first lesson — although the subsequent lessons are necessary and well worth it.
4. She is fun to work with. She is clearly an animal lover (as you should be in this business) and works in a way that is healthy and fun for the dogs. She is also very clear and direct which helps gets results fast.
I HIGHLY recommend and would rate more than 5 stars if I could.

I can not say enough about how amazing Amy of My Clever Canine has been with the training of our Yellow Lab, Maisey. We thought Maisey was a lost cause as she had been put in a backyard and forgotten for the first 3 years of her life. The only time she was «remembered» with them was when she was severely abused by her first owners.
Maisey was so happy to be here and loved that she went crazy over ANY attention at all and would jump super high in the air and nip us on our arms and faces… sometimes to the point of breaking skin. She was also afraid of people and wouldn’t accept any love. She was picking on our other dog and was aggressive towards him. We seriously thought of rehoming her to a trainer or a more experienced person that could deal with her high energy. OR we were going to send her away for a boot camp. Then we found Amy.
Almost immediately, Amy was able to evaluate our dog and figure out what we needed to do for effective training. With Amy’s instruction within 5… yes i said 5 lessons, our dog is calm, (well calmer), is seeking affection and love, is able to sit, stay, down, wait and is leash trained.
I finally took her to lunch at a public patio for a test run with friends. She laid there for 1−½ to 2 hours without getting up once. (OK she got up once when the lunch was served she sat up and gave me what our family calls the «calendar puppy» look but I said no and she laid down again.) When we were done, I gave her one treat.
I am absolutely amazed with Amy, her assessment of our dog, her understanding of my limitations and most of all how professional she was. Amy actually trained me more than Maisey and I learned so much. All of it made sense and was easy and practical to do on a super busy schedule. She doesn’t waste your time or your money. She gets in, gets out and gets it done!

I’ve known Amy for a couple of years now, in which she has watched my dogs while I travel, handed out helpful advice when I’ve had issues pop up, and has helped me find two of my dogs.
Recently Amy started helping me with training my 11 month old puppy, and after one lesson I’ve already seen a difference. Jalapeño is an incredibly high energy puppy who really needed to learn some rules and the expert advice Amy gave us in our first lesson has been a huge help. I wanted to do as much of the training as I could myself, but I quickly realized I needed a hand and Amy jumped in effortlessly. She not only worked with Jalapeño, but she explained everything she was doing to me, and then put me to work as well. I’ve now been able to take what she taught us home, and continue to work with Jalapeño on a daily basis.
What stood out to me the most in our training session was Amy’s ability to ask Jalapeño to do what she needed to do, while still incorporating play and fun into the lesson.
I’m super excited to continue working with Jalapeño on my own using the skills Amy gave us, and even more excited to know I have a knowledgeable trainer to go to when I need a more experienced hand.

I have observed Amy while in training sessions with numerous dogs. She is professional, systematic, and gets results that other trainers could not.
@Steel J. Your comments have no foundation. Your dog has an allergy to the collar you agreed to use (Amy doesn’t use collars that you do not agree to use). You sound like a liar. «Physically abused my 10 month old German Shepherd.» Your Unilocal review is ignorant and you sound uneducated about your dog, its training needs, and health conditions.
My 2 year old female American Bulldog was a crazy mess and now she can do things I never thought possible. No E-collar was necessary but for some that is the route they want to go and that is okay. The e-collars get results in an effective and humane manner. I wasn’t of that convinced until I felt what it is actually like on my arm. I would have used one but I didn’t want to shell out a hundred bucks for a collar.

I just wanted to say «Thank You Amy» for the awesome training lessons, we now have a better understand and control of our dog. If you have a dog that won’t listen, drags you down the street while walking and you don’t have a clue on how to gain control of your dog… please don’t wait to call, My Clever Canine Dog Training.
We adopted our dog, Joey, from the animal shelter. Joey is a Catahoula leopard mix,
which we knew nothing about this breed… but we quickly realized he was a lot of dog
to train, more than what I’ve ever experienced, and I’ve raised many kinds of dogs
in my life time. I contracted Amy, and she was familiar with this breed and was able
to show us how to control Joey. We purchased 4 lessons and they were worth every penny. I now have Joey walking with me on leash instead of dragging me down the street. Joey knows how to sit, stay, come, down roll over, catch, and heel.
He comes into the house and is now getting along with our house cats. Joey also sleeps in our room at night and is very well behaved.
If it hadn’t have been for Amy, I think we would have tried to find Joey another home because we just didn’t know what to do with him and that would’ve been a big loss to us and Joey. Joey is a very highly intelligent, loving, loyal dog and loves us dearly.
We now have a fantastic pet whom has completed our family due to the help of Amy’s devoted training. Amy is very experienced with all breeds and you can tell she
loves her job and it shows.
