Harvey W.

Business Owner

My name is Harvey C. Welch, and I have been defending individuals accused of crimes for more than 30 years.

My story is a little different from other criminal defense lawyers. I never served as a prosecutor, as many do. Having something of a rebellious streak, I have always taken the side of the accused, the underdog. From the day I passed the bar, I have worked only on defense, concentrating on the kinds of criminal offenses that are common in the city — property crimes, drug offenses, DUI, juvenile offenses and crimes of violence.

For many years, I was lead counsel for the Illinois Capital Defense Bar. This was an elite group of attorneys who defended people accused of capital murder. With the abolition of capital punishment in Illinois, this group disbanded, but I continue to take heavy-duty cases, including murder one. Such cases are challenging because so much is at stake
