Summer Meadows Pet Spa

First of all, I have to say that I never go out of my way to complain, bad mouth, negatively discuss a person/​business etc, unless I completely feel that it’s warranted. We moved to the area a couple of years ago. I was tired of driving an hour, back where we used to live, to take my dog to the groomer’s, so I sadly stopped going to her, and found this place in August of 2015. I took my Westie in for a full groom. When I picked him up, she told me that he was nervous and actually had to be rebathed because he defecated in the tub (I’m sure a lot of groomers deal with nervous animals). I felt bad and apologized, but assumed that she’s seen it all. When I recently went to make a new appointment, I was told that after looking over his file, she could not accept our business. She (nicely) suggested another place, such as a groomer in a vet’s office, where he could be sedated. This is a five year old Westie who NEVER has had to be sedated to be groomed before. He’s 18 pounds. I’m baffled that a «professional» can’t handle this. A massive, aggressive, difficult dog to manage? Yes, I understand. A small, loving dog, who gets irritable about his paws? No. I was told that he’s the type of dog that needs an extra set of hands, and unfortunately, she doesn’t offer that. ?? Why is she doing this then? I’m sure my dog is not the only one who has been a «challenge». She must be doing very well then, to turn all of those paying customers away. I asked around to others, who I know go there, and a few mentioned their dogs getting muzzled because they too get nervous. Why not my dog then? It’s simply shocking that I was never told that she wouldn’t groom him again back in August. In my opinion, she should get more training in this business if she can’t handle a nervous, small dog. I’m posting this review, not to tarnish someone’s reputation (she seemed very nice, just not that intelligent in running a business), but to let others know, who also have dogs that get anxious/​nervous etc, that you might just want to check another place out who can handle all dogs and their different temperaments.

Before I start this wonderful review, let me tell you a few things about my dog, Missy:
–Missy is afraid of blow dryers. She tries to murder them. She broke Katie’s muzzle during her first visit! POINTS!
–Missy cries during baths as if she is undergoing some form of medieval torture. It is not «bath time,» it is «oh my God let’s shriek loudly and try to escape!» time.
— Missy isn’t particularly fond of other dogs.
This brings me to why Summer Meadows Pet Spa is the only place where I will take Missy. One, Katie does not have other dogs in the same area when she is grooming or bathing one. This is less stressful for my dog, as Katie is 100 percent focused on Missy and there are no dogs in the same access area as Missy. Additionally, there isn’t a risk of Missy trying to go fisticuffs with another dog (which helps ME relax!)
Next, Katie is EXCEPTIONALLY accommodating. Since Missy hates driers (she literally can’t even), Katie works with me to allow Missy to get her grooms in first and her baths last (yay no driers!)
Finally, Katie’s patience and skill truly show in her work. Not only have I listened to her baby-​talk my dog (she talks to Missy like she’s her own doggy!), I’ve also watched Katie expertly groom my pup’s hilarious «lady-​beard,» lovingly bathe her while she cries in terror, and then give her treats and kisses before we leave.
Seriously. Katie is the most precise and patient groomer on Earth. I wouldn’t trust my fur-​child with anyone else.

i’ve been to my share of groomers and this is by far the best…1^st, katie is extremely nice and personable…2^nd, prices are extremely reasonable…3^rd, you make an appointment so you don’t have to drop off your dog (s) and leave them all day with no water or bathroom break… highly recommended!

Amazing! First time going to Summer Meadows, Katie was very professional, courteous, and really good at her job. Best haircut/​bath Noah has every had. The price was reasonable for the quality of the work. I highly recommend her services.
