My son received a game he already had for Christmas. I brought it in to trade and they would not accept it because it was still shrink wrapped. «Can I unwrap it right now» I asked? «No, because we saw you walk in with it wrapped.» «Can I leave the store, unwrap it and come back later» I asked? «No, because we will remember you.» For some reason they think this policy will deter thieves from shoplifting games and selling them to Gamestop. A worthy goal. But the thieves are much smarter than the management at Gamestop. They have undoubtledly figured out how to take the shrinkwrap off the game before they bring it in to sell. Wereass an idiot like me who has never sold a game to Gamestop before is forced to drive 20 minutes to another store so I can sell the freshly unwrapped game to a sales clerk who hasn’t blacklisted me. Absurd corporate policy asside, the manager at this location spoke very disrespectfully to me while he accused me of not«listening» to him, and for my failure to «understand» this policy, which apparently makes perfect sense to him. Sadly, this manager was not listening to me as I gave him valuable feedback about how this policy treats honest customers like thieves and destroys customer goodwill. How can a company whose business model is on the verge of extinction afford to act so foolishly and rudely towards customers?

This was a surprisingly large Gamestop tucked away in a crowded shopping center. We went there for headphones for a PS3 and received a full education on the variety and differences between all the choices… who knew! Their selection was great and the salesman was very helpful, plus it is right next store to my favorite baseball card shop… its a win, win for me and my son.

This should tell you all you need to know about this location… I drive past two other Gamestops in Lakewood to this one because the service is better. While the other locations have me feeling like I’m bothering them or deal with employees who obviously rather be PLAYING video games then selling them the UP location outperforms them by far and it seems there is less employees than the other ones which makes it more impressive that one person can do a better job than two at the other places. No matter who I run into here they are helpful, patient, smiles, and will even go out of their way to show and tell you about new games. Example. one guy showed me a new release game play I never knew about on his cell phone and now I plan on buying the game next week. That and not making you feel inferior is quality service and what I was spoiled with at my other favorite location before I moved. Overall, maybe you have better experiences at the two Lakewood locations or maybe they hire or train better and the level of service matches this location but until then this place has good service NOW so they’ve earned my business NOW and not later.

I’ll just quickly break it down… The Good: The used games and systems are fairly priced and they have a very good warranty policy, which is made even more impressive by the employees who are fellow gamers and will not try to screw you out of getting a game or system that works. That leads into the staff, who are 99% certifiable nerds, and I mean that as a compliment. If I need something to take up some of my time, I can tell them how I feel and they’ll have 3 games to supplement my mood. They know their shit! The Bad: I really can’t ever recommend buying anything new here unless its new but years later new. They just don’t have competitive prices for the new stuff. This is outweighed, of course, by the fact that they are made for the used business. The Ugly: They stopped carrying original XBOX games!!! Mike is a sad panda.
