Good eat! I really enjoy our dinner tonight. We got lemongrass beef and a huge bowl of phở for under $ 30. It was delicious! Will be back for more

I recommend coming here for the Vietnamese dishes. They also have a Chinese menu as well which is okay. Service is good and their place is spacious. They need to replace their TVs though. They have like 8 tvs, but only 1 worked when I went.

Menu food options show bias on Cantonese and Chinese cooking, and while the traditional Phở and vermicelli prove popular, the seafood dishes are a lot more impressive. The kitchen specializes in seafood, offering an awesome range of crab dishes, seafood soups and stir-fries, and much more besides. Fish and shellfish dishes run from cuttlefish, smelt fish to crab and lobster. We have tried dishes such as succulent prawn dishes, crispy, deep-fried shell-on crab with garlic, scallion, red chili and black beans and clam stir-fry. Cantonese and Chinese seafood cooking such as the typhoon shelter crab, seafood clay pot and salt and pepper lobster also feature on the menu. Appetizers include chicken wings. Fried wings coated with a spicy, tangy sauce, produced plenty of garlicky tang. Mains also include grilled beef and pork, General Tso’s chicken or the like. The phở was just marginally above average. Not a place for me to come for a good phở but a nice place for fresh seafood.

I left my car at the Firestone on Olive to get my oil changed on a cold winter day and decided to walk up the street to find something warm to eat. Phở sounded like a good choice on a windy January day, and it definitely hit the spot. I ordered the #12 Combination beef Phở with beef brisket, balls, tendon, and tripe, and it was a huge bowl for $ 8.95!~ The same bowl would cost around $ 11.95 at Mai Lee and it would probably be ¾ths of the size. The prices here are pretty reasonable and the menu is very extensive! I think phở is a pretty basic dish and I’ve had my fair share of it back in Cali. The phở here was pretty good. The broth was good and there were tons of vermicelli noodles in my giant bowl. Definitely a good choice on a cold St. Louis day. I could only finish half the bowl, but I was filled up with the warm soup and satisfied. It’s a pretty big restaurant and it’s kind of interesting because it looks like it used to be some mexican restaurant because of all the bright colors and tables, and the bar. I like this place since it’s more lowkey and inexpensive compared to Mai Lee.

Finally, my search is over! Have tried so many Viet restaurants in St. Louis area looking for a place with good all around Viet food. We tried a good variety of traditional dishes all were good. From the crispy flavorful Banh Xeo to the rich spot on seasoning of the Phở, Bun Bo Hue and Hu Tieu broths. Looking forward to coming back and trying more of their menu!

Pls dont ever go to this place. You are wasting money and time. They used to be very good but they changed the owner and this place became a nightmare. I ordered the cat fish in claypot and you can imagine they put tons of SALT in the dish. My friend said I can make a so much better dish at home. If you want Chinese food, go to LuLu or Weihong. If you go for Vietnamese food, Mai lee could be a better choice(but Mai lee is not authentic Vietnamese, the flavor is adjusted to American style)

I’ve been on a hunt for good Phở since I moved here last year from California. Tried a couple of places on Grand. Tried the(in)famous Mai Lee’s. Tried two other places on Olive, then found this. Closest I’ve come to California-Vietnamese authentic beef noodle phở and spring rolls! Going back for more! Very inexpensive, extensive menu with an entire Chinese section as well. Family-owned/operated. Easy to get to, but not so easy to «see» from the road. It’s just West of the enormous seafood grocery store and on the opposite side from Aldi’s and also West of that. Lots of seating, great carry-out service. GOTHERE!

I hate to write a review like this, but I did want to share my experience. A friend and I were looking for Vietnamese food, but many places were closed on Labor Day. We came across this place and decided to give it a shot. The restaurant was fairly empty, perhaps 6 or so tables of small parties. We each ordered soups and an order of spring rolls each. The springs rolls came out first. Large in size with the standard peanut-based sauce. What you expect from a Vietnamese restaurant… Quiet good. My friend’s soup came out and I told him to start, expecting mine next. We waited another 15 minutes as my friend continue to eat… But no soup for me. One of the staff(not our waiter) came by and asked if we needed anything and I said I was still waiting on my soup. He asked how long I had been waiting and I said about 15 – 20 minutes when he said it should be right out. After another 10 minutes, still nothing. My friend finished and we flagged the man a second time to tell him to cancel the soup and we wanted the bill. He apologized. Next an older woman came over and said she was very sorry and said something about the bill(we felt bad because I said not to worry, but we had a hard time understanding her) and went off. We waited another 5 minutes and no one brought a bill over, they even seemed to be avoiding the table. We then figured we had no idea what was going on and awkwardly left. Again, I feel bad about leaving a poor review, but it was a bad experience. I even had to check my Swarm check-in time and saw from about the time I ordered to the time we said to cancel the soup was about 35 – 40 minutes. I was hungry… :/

Kim Son still is one of my go-to Vietnamese spots. They’re never all that busy. They have a good selection of dishes. Everything is freshly prepared, and service is always good. I loved their salt & pepper crab. But this time I tried the salt & pepper shrimp. The battered shrimp are really tasty, but the dish is pretty sparse… just shrimp with a side of white rice. My wife ordered a vermicelli bowl with pork and sliced egg rolls. Her dish was ok, but we both thought that they skimped out on the amount of meat they used. This dish at other places comes with much more protein. When we come back we’ll probably revert back to the salt & pepper crab that we’ve had before.

Came here last night for Mother’s Day dinner with my parents. The seafood hot pot and gai lan(Chinese broccoli) with seafood & fried salted smelt were delish! The smelt had a sizable amount of chilies. The smelt weren’t crunchy as I thought. And the chilies weren’t that spicy. The seafood hot pot was super delish! All 3 dishes had the perfect amount of food for 3 people. For 3 dishes with hot Vietnamese coffee came to about $ 40. Not tooooo shabby I say. Not only that, this place wasn’t packed compared to other places on Mother’s Day eve. The rice was a bit too dry. But, the service was great & impeccable.

Wonderful find! Not only was the food tasty at Kim Son, but the workers and owner were also super nice, welcoming, and funny. My friend and I were seated by the window, which is a lot brighter than the rest of the restaurant. I ordered the Combination Egg Noodles, and the broth was excellent. Probably my favorite Vietnamese place in St. Louis so far.

It is located by the Seafood Market. We met this place so many times. I always wanted to try this restaurant. I ordered #75. Chicken w/vegetable, $ 8.95. 4 stars, not bad. #32 Beef pan fried rice noodle, $ 9.95. 3 stars. I like it, but it is too greasy. Service: 2 to 3 stars. We were ignored for a misunderstanding. The waitress was polite and nice, but still needs some training.

Went back here for dinner with eight people last night. Plan to order a feast. So we requested for a bigger table. This waiter said all those emptied six big tables are reserved. So we squeezed in tightly. My Kung Pao Gai ding came out black bean chicken white meat with peanuts. I asked the waiter this is a total complete different dish? He said this is their version. Really? The rest of the dishes came out mediocre. We just came here not too long ago. What happened to the chef? While we were still eating, this waitress bought us the check. Can you believe that? There’s only three tables with people eating, & not even busy! After I’ve paid the bill, and request for the manager, this waitress said he’s not here. To pissed me more off the six reserved big tables were still empty!!! Wow. What a big turn around from last month.

I absolutely love the vietnamese egg rolls. My family gets it all the time as an appetizer. In fact, we have to order enough for everyone to get at least 2. Service is not as good, but understandable as I know it can be tough for first american generation workers to adapt to the american culture.

Overpriced, slow service ever. Noodle soup was too oil, very few(3 – 5?)pc of meat. And only few(like 12) tiny pcs squid in the ox sauce squid dish. We got two special noodle soup, two iced coffee, one ox sauce squid, I don’t remember how much are those cost, but its not worth it.

+ Bun bo hue — delicious, hearty broth + Right next to Seafood City + Diverse Vietnamese/Chinese menu Kim Son Seafood… a contender for some of the best bun bo hue in STL, Kim Son makes their bun bo hue with all of the accouterments and then some that I expect to see in the hearty, slightly spicy beef broth — beef shank, blood cubes, pig’s knuckles, steamed pork loaf(cha lua), and the perfect kind of cylindrical, chewy noodles. All topped with generous amounts of raw sliced onion, cilantro, and served with a plate of bean sprouts and thai basil to add to taste. The broth is rich, slightly sweet and wonderfully flavored with lemongrass but not too spicy — add sriracha to taste if you want more heat. This is perfection in a bowl for cold winter days. The phở and spring rolls are good here too with generous portions, but the bun bo hue is what makes it worth the drive out to Olive for Vietnamese food. The menu is HUGE but well organized by category of noodle soups, vermicelli dishes, seafood, veggies, etc. It’s diverse and is a good representation of Vietnamese-Chinese cuisine. Being in the same lot as Seafood City makes it a no brainer to stop by for grub before a grocery trip(you know, so you don’t shop ravenously… bad decisions are made on an empty stomach). Huhhh thinking about that bun bo hue on this miserable snowy day… I wish Kim Son were closer to STL city!

It was a lazy Sunday and I was craving Vietnamese food, but did not feel like spending 3 – 4 hours in the kitchen cooking. I decided to give my favorite Vietnamese place in St. Louis a break, Mai Lee and try something new for a change. I stumbled upon Kim Son Seafood on a Unilocal search. I was excited by the large menu and plethora of options. We ordered the phở, goi cuon(fresh summer rolls), and salt & pepper crab. Everything was tasty. The cua rang muoi(salt & pepper crab) was phenomenal! The flavors were spot on! It was just as good as the cua rang muoi on the West Coast!!! My only complaint is that market price for the crab was $ 29.99. I have ordered this dish many times at Vietnamese restaurants all over the U.S. and have never paid this much for it. But, the taste was excellent and satisfying til the last bite. Kim Son is conveniently located next to an Asian supermarket, which made my trip to St. Louis more productive! I’ll be back the next time I need to eat & shop for groceries!

Some of the best Vietnamese food I have ever had. Everything was amazing from the appetizer, to the beer, and phở. I really think you can judge how good the Vietnamese restaurant is by the quality of their phở; and theirs was outstanding. And the amount served is unbelievable. I have a hefty appetite but was unable to finish everything. My wife and I shared a dinner, and an appetizer, each had our own bowl of phở and two beers a piece and walked out under $ 50. They have fresh lobsters in the tank and lobster specials. I will definitely have to try one on my next visit.

As a regular visitor of Mai Lee it’s hard to say I have found another Vietnamese restaurant I really enjoy. I will always love Phở Ga from Mai Lee. Kim Son is really going all out with their salt and pepper lobster, for about $ 15 we are eating a fantastic meal. The service has improved by leaps and bounds. Good food, great prices!

This place is great! I usually stop by for lunch whenever I’m buying groceries on olive. The atmosphere is very laid back and the food is quick and inexpensive. They have a variety of phở, rice dishes and other Vietnamese fare. Here’s what I got: –combination rice platter with pork chop, egg cake, pickled veggies, fried egg, shredded pork and a side of hot consummé): this is my all time favorite dish! The pork chop is so flavorful and perfectly grilled. the egg cake is light and tender and the yolk from the fried egg soaks into the rice and is a PAHTYINYOMOUTHH. –deep fried spring rolls(wrap these in lettuce with cilantro and herbs and dip into fish sauce dip — YUM) –rice paper spring rolls(pork and shrimp and veg rolled up in rice paper that comes with a sweet peanut sauce) –seafood phở with egg noodles(soup is really flavorful and rich!) The food and service are great and I will definitely be back!

Vietnamese? Really? I didn’t notice. I think the sign said Kim Son Seafood. It’s more polished and modern than the typical restaurant in our little Chinatown. I have to say it’s a little more of a comfortable and familiar atmosphere for newbs like me. Unfortunately, my server spoke very very little English, and I didn’t understand most of what he said. We got it done, though. The other servers seemed to speak fluent English. They offer a pretty ordinary list of Chinese lunch specials, currently $ 6.75. I had the Kung Pao Chicken lunch special. It was very good. Plenty of peppers. Fried rice and hot and sour soup were also very good. Egg roll — smallish, just okay. Nothing too exciting, but a decent option if you’re in the market for a decent Chinese meal.
