Verandas

It has been a year to this date that I have been staying in Verandas… truely a home away from home for me… am new to US and from India and never I had anything other than comfirt staying…
Starting from the smooth leasing process to the great ambience and house standards… nestled within trees and full of open air, nice ventilation… Loving it…
I almost forgot to mention the very important aspect of it being near to bart… good for SFO travel… and the ease of rent payments via online application…

My fiancé and I moved into this complex a few months ago. While it is an older apartment community, everything in our unit was completely clean and functioning. The location is extremely convenient — across the street from the BART station, behind a Safeway and Starbucks, Bank of America/​Chase/​Wells Fargo and several restaurants/​services within walking distance. This complex has pretty standard amenities — pool/​jacuzzi, small fitness room, sauna, covered parking, etc.
What differentiates this apartment community from the others is the staff/​maintenance team, especially the ladies in the leasing office (Nancy, Marsha, and Diona). The team goes above and beyond to address any issue a tenant may have, big or small, right away. They have responded to all inquiries or requests that we have had within one business day, if not within just a few hours. They are always kind and happy to help no matter what. Nothing but exceptional service.

I had a studio apartment here for 10 months. I moved here initially because of the proximity to the BART station made it tolerable for me to commute to Warm Springs in Fremont and be close to the city (via BART).
The leasing office management was always prompt to reply to any issues I had and were quite helpful and friendly as well. The apartment itself was really nice, despite being on the first floor I never had any problems with pests or noisy neighbors even though I faced the street. The appliances were brand new and the washer/​dryer were adequate and capable for a studio apartment. The electricity and water costs per month were also reasonable. Each apartment comes with a nice balcony that is good if you like to entertain/​throw gatherings.
The gym is pretty much non existent — a few treadmills and barely any weights, so you might want to get a membership nearby.
The swimming pool is tiny.
There is a hot tub which is nice but you can’t use it beyond 10PM.
Most people living here are working professionals with families so if you’re a young person this might not be the best location for you — there’s not really any bars/​nightlife within walking distance. I’ve personally also never had a package lost or stolen. Each apartment comes with it’s own covered parking spot.
There’s a shopping center right nearby that has a ²⁴⁄₇ safeway, fast food and a rite aid, along with banks making this a good location.
I ended up not renewing my lease because of work related relocation but I certainly had a positive experience staying here.

I have waited for 20 minutes for my appointment on the gate, and no one was opening the door!
I entered to the facility around 2:25pm eventually, someone opened the door while exiting… There was a lady (Diona H.) eating lunch at the leasing office, and asked me to reschedule! She told me that she called but could not reach to me to reschedule (no calls on my cell actually), and she is required by law to have lunch by 2pm. I was like well my appointment is at 2pm. Then, she said by law I need to eat lunch. She said she will be available in 10 minutes (she was watching TV:)) I checked Avalon across the street (they seem to employ better people there)… I came back to Verandas to ask what was the law about (I was thinking she might have certain disease or disability.) She told me that she has started work at 8:30am and CA law requires employees to eat lunch within 5 hours. God creates interesting creatures indeed! I don’t want to be around such organisms, so skipping this apartment complex…

Me & my husband live here as it is close to bart for his office. Staff and maint team is very responsive. Prices are bit higher otherwise things are good here.

I work in San Francisco. The reason why I choose to live here is it’s close to the BART and quiet. It’s wonderful to have a in-​unit laundry so you don’t have to wait a long time in the public laundry. The apartment is a bit old but well maintained. I would recommend Verandas to my friends if they can’t afford the crazy rent price in SF:)

I have been to their community last saturday to check out the apt. I did sign up online, there was a message saying someone will contact me. but none from the apt contacted me.
Even though, I went on Saturday. The leasing office is inside the building gate and I called them, asking to open the gate and escort me inside the apt. But no soul turned up. I had to call them up second time after waiting for 5 mins and then someone came after 3 mins, by which I tail gated with anxious. Its so easy to tailgate and none to check (Just think of the security in that apartment).
And the person in the leasing office, was not at all interested to tell me anything, which indeed was saying just get out from the place. So I did not like much to speak with them. In the end, I took the apartment in Avalon.
Please avoid Verandas — my impression is: poor assistance and very weak security.

I have rented a studio from BRE Verandas at Union City, CA for last year. Before I moved out, we did a pre-​move-​out inspection with the property management personal and we signed the inspection form saying everything is OK and there is no apartment cleaning fee. However, after I moved out, they still charged me $ 100 for apartment cleaning fee and made up some causes that they didn’t mention at all during the pre-​move-​out inspection.

I have been here from 1 year and feels this better to stay. Apart from market, bart and bus station, it has nice park and Query lake (½ mile) nearby.
I wish I would not have leave this place but at the end of my lease, management couldnt give me better option on month to month basis. Originally it was very expensive and month to month was horrible what they were offering. Staff (F and L) at leasing office is awesome and will give them all 5 starts. Always pleasant, friendly, caring.
Gym is very small but whenever i go there I found it mostly vacant and what else you need? Agree that swimming pool is useless, I never seen anyone swimming there. I suggest management to close it completely and extend clubhouse (put 2,3 ping pong table, 1 pool table), may be they can extend Gym.
They have lots of open garbage areas, if you are looking for apartment here just look outside of the gallery and make your own decision.

Most Unprofessional management. When we mentioned we would move out, they changed the pro-​rated rent 3 times.
We moved out due to heavy mold problems
They raise the rent every year while the management sucks more day by day.

I am leasing an apartment at Verandas since a few years now and so far it has been a fantastic journey. It is one of the better communities I have stayed in. Rents are not as high as Avalon across the street and yet property management offers comparable amenities at reasonable price. Community is safe and quiet. Staff is very friendly and helpful (Feroza and Francine does a commendable job!). Every maintenance request is taken care within 24 hours. Plus BART, grocery stores, restaurants, banks, Starbucks are within walking distance. Overall place is very centrally located in bay area and conveniently accessible through public transit to SF and peninsula/​south bay.

Lived here because of the proximity to BART and ease of commute to Oakland where I work.
The management staff is awesome. Not every apt complex has as attentive and diligent management staff as this one. Feroza provided us a very easy move in and has been very friendly and attentive to our needs throughout our time here. The other staff is very friendly as well and responsive to needs.
The premises is safe and well maintained. The gym is small, just a few machines but it’ll do the trick. During the summer it’s a nice run outside to the near by Fremont/​UC lake reservoir.
Our apartment has served our needs well and was fairly priced. Overall, we’ve had a very good experience with verandas.
My only complaint is no maintenance service on Sunday when I locked myself out of my apartment! But my fault.

Living here just because of BART and all other business nearby. Apart from that nice open place, plenty of parking and helpful staff.
1 star less just for not having a full gym like Avalon, but still a better option of paying $ 700 less just for an added facility.

The ONLY GOOD thing about this place is the location, it’s next to bart. THAT’s IT!
Where do I start with the bad things about living here…
I think I’ll start off with the parking situation! The parking spots next to the apartments are sooooo damn small. They are sooo damn small my side-​mirror was hit and knocked off because they are too small of spots, plus a lady named ME/​NA cannot drive. Beware of her!
Next, the noise level is terrible, people are so inconsiderate and the cars, buses and sometimes bart trains are so noisy, if u r a light sleeper it will wake you.
The rent is sooooo high, they cost as much as the newer, nicer, modern apartments right across the street. It doesn’t make sense! The cabinetry is out dated… And bathrooms are disgusting.
If you like working out, get a gym membership. The gym @ this facility only consists of 3 treadmills, 1 elliptical and a seat bike machine. NO weights, NO nothing… cheap!
Avoid this place @ all costs! I will never rent/​lease here everrrrrr again!

downsizing to a 2 star … IM out next saturday and not looking back!

I have to echo the same problems as some other reviewers. The bus noise is bad. It took months for me to be able to sleep through it. I have had my car broken into twice. There is indeed a silverfish infestation (I have no idea what those things eat). Plus the rent is high; garbage, sewer, and water are not covered in your rent.
They do have a nice office and maintenance staff but its not enough to balance out the negatives. I’m moving tomorrow.

This place is a loud obnoxious shithole! Non-​stop noise pollution from local business/​roadways/​grounds staff/​door slamming/​buses/​bart/​leaf blowers — -a horrible place to live that is just Inundated with black noise — all day every day. Couple the noise with the stench of rank BBQ smell from Jiminez market and you have a horrible living experience. Avoid this noise infested dump.
