Not sure why this place doesn’t get good reviews but I really love their crispy calamari here. In fact, their crispy calamari is always something my family and I bring to potlucks. Not only do they seriously pack the containers with the crunchy goodness, but they stay crunchy for a while! A couple of times we have had some leftover the next day(after packing some to go at those family parties) and they still maintained their crunchiness. It’s ALWAYS a hit at those parties and one of the first dishes that is gone. I haven’t tried anything else there though as this review is strictly for the crispy calamari. Definitely recommend — the crispy calamari, at least!

Ordered 2 combo meals and a side of wonton soup. The food was delicious. Me and my girl ordered Mongolian beef, with fried rice 2 chicken wings and sweet bbq chicken. It was a lot of goo and comes in big portions. The lady that was working there was very nice. Do not recommend eating inside the store because it was cold inside due to the door not closing all the way. It lets in a breeze. Overall great experience.

Called in the order — they asked how long until I’ll be there. Told them 20 minutes— I got there in 30 minutes and the food wasn’t ready. It was dinner time so ok, I’ll let it go. Give them about 45 minutes to get your food ready as they are pretty popular. Soft Fried Calamari — Got home & it didn’t come with any sauce to dip it in. They do give you a lot but it does become a little much. Was pretty disappointed there was nothing to dip it in. Honey Walnut Shrimp –It was cold, I don’t know if this is normal. But it was very crispy. Shrimp Fried Rice — Was just ok.

The calamari here is soooo bad for you but sooooo good and addictive. I like mine fried hard with the tentacles– tastes like chicarrones with ajinomoto(msg) which is both terrifying and unfortunately also ingrained in my Filipino taste buds to equate good old home cooking. Lol There’s a softer calamari option as well, which is also tasty. Don’t forget the dipping sauce– really makes the dish, especially if you ask for more jalapeños, too. Haven’t tried anything else but the calamari. I really only stop here if we have a huge party and I don’t feel like frying in the house. Haha party platters are super affordable.

The first time I came to King Calamari and ordered the crispy calamari, I was disappointed. It’s not like any of your typical«crispy calamari» orders from other restaurants. It was fried to a crisp like it was fried 2 – 3 times. There was no enjoyment in the bite as it was like I was going to break a tooth. Maybe some folks like that but I’m not one of those people. Well this second time, I ordered the«soft calamari» in hopes to get what I was expecting which is a crispy fry on the calamari with a chewy meat. What happened? Well it was exactly the calamari of my dreams. It had the flavor of the crispy calamari but it had the missing chew that I longed for the last time we ordered it. I did call in my order, but getting through on the phone was an ordeal. I had to call 3 times to get through but it was done in 10 minutes. Also it’s cash only. On top of that, the price has gone up by $ 2 in the past year which is crazy. So I paid a little under $ 15 when last time I paid only ~ $ 12.70. You do get a lot of food, but I do wish they had a smaller portion as it’s not something you want to just have for two people… but hey, why not invite a few friends and have a little party!

This is a tiny, strip mall Chinese food place in Union City. They are known for their crispy fried calamari with a side of vinegar sauce. Super delicious! They have a full Chines food menu and their dishes are delicious and large. It’s not really a place you eat at, it’s more like a take out place. The owner is very nice and friendly which makes for a pleasant purchase. Cash only people! There’s a Fremont bank w atm in the complex so you can get cash for your calamari fix.

I always come here whenever I have work potlucks and am lazy to cook. The reason is simple; it’s cheap and offers huge quantity. Now don’t expect food too be great or delicious here. They offer a large variety of standard chinese food that can be bought in bulk. I usually grab their fried fish and rice. Good place for parties or potluck! Effective service

The food is normal for Chinese take-out. I do like how the lady is always very friendly as if she knows who I am. She always knows exactly what my order is when I come into pick up before I even say anything. Prices are good and food is decent. The family’s go-to for Chinese food.

I ordered 4 party trays from King Calamari: House Fried Rice, House Chow Mein, Beef Broccoli and Salt and Pepper Spareribs for a saturday to be picked up at 4PM. I live nearby and was headed to the place when I got a call 10 minutes before 4PM and was notified my order was ready. I was extremely surprised since some reviews had stated long lines and wait but that was not the case when I went there. I arrived at 4:10PM and picked up my trays and also ordered a small box of the soft fried calamari. Everyone at the party raved about the salted pepper spareribs and the calamari! Of course not everyone arrived at the same time at the party so I had to reheat them up and it was just as good as fresh. The show mein and beef broccoli were ok. The fried rice was too dry for my taste so I would likely not order this again. Other than that, service was on time and food was good so I will definitely order party trays from them again!

The soft calamari had to be some of the best I had ever. For only 12 $ and they load it up you’ll have plenty leftover. Wait about 10−15mins but it’s well worth it. Hard to find value like this. It’s CASHONLY which is typically the case small businesses like this so no big deal.

I am only rating this place for the calamari. Small place… and the lady at the counter is hard to understand. She was helpful though and fried us samples to try two kinds they offer — soft or crunchy. I love the soft calamari. Has a little crisp and squid is good and not chewy. The prices are pretty good. The small plastic container is only $ 11.99 but they stuff it and rubber band to hold all the calamari. It’s not really spicy but they add jalapeños. They have two tray sizes as well for a decent price. They offer other foods. The last time we came here, everyone was picking up their calamari orders. It was a really busy Sunday afternoon. Will be back to try the other food as its looks good and decently priced.

The food is great, price is reasonable and the lady that helped me was friendly. Honestly only reason I gave it a 3 star was that it takes CASHONLY. That was a hassle because there weren’t any WF banks near by and this place was going to close in 5 mins. I ended up not taking the order. But my parents go here to order Calamari so I can vouch for the food, just not sure what their experiences are.

I love the soft calamari from here. It is sooo good, it’s addicting. Perfect amount of crunch and I love the spice that the fresh jalapeños give to the dish. Why only three stars? I called in for two separate events, ordering party trays to be picked up at a certain time. And both times I had to wait 30 minutes to almost an hour for the food to be ready. Seriously? The last time I placed an order, I called the day before. I also decided to call an hour before my scheduled time to make sure it’ll be ready. I get to the restaurant and I have to wait in a long line to tell the cashier I placed an order for 1:00pm. It was 1:15 by that time, and after paying she said to wait 5 minutes. I end up leaving with my food at 1:50. RIDICULOUS. Lesson learned– never calling to place tray orders.

On a Super Bowl Sunday, it is expected that lines will be long to pick up food. Ok I get that. But I called our order in 15 minutes ago and they said it’ll be ready in 10 minutes. Now I’m standing at the door and I can hear similar people were told the same thing. Now I’m wondering if they even cooked my order. There is only one line for everything… even those who called their order in supposedly to save time but unfortunately it’s not going to happen today. There’s only one lady dealing with everyone and having a hard time dealing with irate and upset customers –very long wait and order mix ups. Given that their food is pretty popular and reasonably priced, there should’ve a system in place when a holiday or a season like this rolls in. Otherwise, they will lose their customers…2 already walked out as I’m standing here writing this review. And btw, I’m in line for 30 mintues already, so my 10 minutes is extended 3 times already. *sigh*

This was a perfect example of «personal preference.» I must have passed by this restaurant a hundred times. Out of curiosity, I finally stepped in and ordered a plate of fried calamari, to bring home for the family to try. The vote was 2 vs 2. Half of us disliked it because the dish was over-fried to the point where you can’t taste the squid’s meat. The other half thought it tasted like squid flavored chips. Personally, I prefer for the calamari to have the texture of calamari. $ 13 for a plate of chips is way too expensive.

Food was fresh. There are dining tables but they typically don’t serve at the location. You can eat there and they can provide you with styrofoam plates, plastic spoons and forks. The calamari is good. Not too greasy and not salty as well. Orange chicken is good but too much breading… Eating in, no free water on tap available. No toilet. You will have to go to Taco Bell.
