Hernandez Kajukenbo Self-Defense

We love this place! My son has been attending class here since 2013 & he loves it! The staff is extremely friendly and they always treat everyone like family! There is a positive vibe in the entire facility, that even as a parent, you take with you as you leave! I would highly recommend HMA to anyone that is looking for a positive outlet for themselves and/​or their children! They have helped increase my son’s confidence and self-​esteem. He also is learning accountability, respect and discipline which are important traits to carry on into adulthood.

Cannot give them enough stars! Everyone, from my first phone call to the owner are beyond friendly, respectful and helpful. They don’t just teach martial arts, they are partners with parents to mold children into confident, respectful people. They require reports from parents and teachers before the kids are promoted to teach them that core values transition to all aspects of life. The place is clean and we’ll maintained. Air freshener smell is a little strong but it definitely does not smell like a gym. We are lucky to have found them and glad to be part of the Hernandez martial arts family. Plus they reward you for references because they believe happy clients are the best advertising. They offer many free trial through out the year so you can try before you buy.

I’m so glad that I committed to a half year contract with Hernandez Martial Arts. They are awesome!
At first I was skeptical because of the free trial that they offer (which actually turned out great) but I have really really seen a significant improvement in my only child– my 7 year old son.
His self esteem has improved a lot. Now instead of being at home sucked into the television set and doing unproductive activities he looks forward to this positive martial arts environment — self defense and exercise!
Personally, I also like the vibe of the school. It’s so positive (they have inspirational and motivational quotes and pictures on the wall) which is perfect since they incorporate psychology into their curriculum.
The staff is great. Karla and Sifu Jess (the black belt girls) are amazing and connect one on one with the kids. My son likes SiBox and all the teachers like Sifu Bobby and Sigong. They are very humble, nice and knowledgable. They say hi and shake hands with each and every parent.
For the price– which is reasonable– This is very much worth the price & the drive from Fremont (Central Park/​Irvington) area!
In addition, this school has helped Us to be on time — even myself as his mom!
As far as parking– come early or else u’ll need 2 park in the parking lot adjacent to theirs!

Very comfortable environment. Trainers are super friendly and my son has never been happier. They are very patient with their students and disciplined at the same time. Once you move up levels the students are showing a lot more respect to each other and teachers. Thanks for all the work you have done so far.

The classes are scheduled back-​to-​back without ANY time between them. So, for example, at exactly 7:15PM there’s one set of parents waiting/​gathering to pick-​up their kids while there’s another set of parents arriving to drop-​off or find parking. That causes mayhem in the parking lot. Some parents park their cars at the «elbow» in the parking lot which is shaped like an «L» which is a little frustrating to get around.
Another thing is that there’s a family at the far end of that area that lives with a obnoxious GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG which attacked me one time. I was forced to flee to the inside of my car. Be careful… sometimes they leave their door open and the only thing holding back that dog is one of those plastic fences that their dog can easily jump over.
If you are on a tight budget keep in mind there are some additional expenses for SPARRING GEAR, new BELTS, new uniforms…
All those things aside, my son loves coming here and I guess that’s what matters the most.
