Went there last weekend and ordered Chef Lim’s special chicken, also ordered Fish day special shrimp and Golden fried Chicken, to my surprised they were all cooked the same way and tasted the same! The portion are pretty big for bento with salad, pickled radish with bean sprout and rice. The food were too salty for me. The golden fried chicken was still bloody inside! The Fish and Chips came in big pieces but tasteless, must be the Swai fish they used and the batter was still a little uncooked inside. Although the owners were very nice and gave us a free fried salmon head with a little bit of meat left. They have fancy tables with sand and seashells making it look like a beach, which is really cool in my opinion. Overall, 3 out of 4 adults that went with me there said they will not go back there again.

Their portions are still huge, great value, super friendly staff, ordering take-out is a breeze, and they even helped me carry all my food to my car. That’s it. Bumping them up to 5 stars!

We ordered to go… Pros: — Food was ready fast(within 10 minutes) — Food and sushi tasted good & sashimi was fresh — Food was a good temperature when we opened at home Cons:(kept me from reviewing 5 stars) — Our entire side order of California roll was packed inside one of the bento boxes — We ordered Katsu donburi and we were given Katusu beno box(tasted good otherwise) Hope this helps!

I don’t even want to write this review because that mean ya’ll will be coming here making it crowded… lol But, I should do the dutiful and let you know… their food is . Chicken and beef fried rice is soo flavourful and their salmon katsu was soo good. Love all their sauces especially their spicey mayo! Their portion was huge! Price is very affordable. Came back the next day! Lol

Great place to grab some Japanese and Korean food. The prices are way better here too. I was able to get a salmon bento box with an order of California rolls for like 5 $ cheaper than at other Japanese restaurants. Food quality is good, amount served is good. The restaurant itself was very clean and the staff was friendly. I’ve gone a few times already and was never disappointed.

I’ve only been to Fish Day a few times. But each time I’ve gone the staff have been courteous and the food prepared quickly. To be honest I haven’t tried too many items on their menu. I put the blame on their AWESOME mixed tempura donburi. It’ll cost ya about $ 9 but it’s ABSOLUTELYPACKED to the brim with crisp and freshly fried goodness. What’s included? Two onion ring, two bell peppers, two broccoli, two carrots, two zucchini(noticing a theme), sweet potato, mushroom, and three MASSIVE shrimp. The batter that was used tasted fresh and each piece was cooked properly. Also included are a side of rice, salad, and pickled veggies. YOUWILLGETFULL folks. It’s almost enough food for two people. WHAT A BARGAIN. I was in a food coma for hours.

If you enjoy Japanese you have to give this place a try. I haven’t dined in personally but every time I order in for pick up the food is prepared quickly and I’m always pleased with the food. I’m not going to say this is the best food in the Bay but for the price and location, this is going to be my go-to for Japanese from now on. My gf and I shared the chicken teriyaki with a side of tempura vegetables and extra rice, sashimi as well on the side. I loved it. The portions are great and the food is consistent. I’ve ordered in three times now and the service is great as well. This place is easy to pass from the street so keep your eyes open for the yellow sign that reads Fish Day, it will be on your left hand side if you’re driving toward Niles up Alvarado Blvd. Someone complained about the styrofoam take out dishes, get off your pedestal bro This place is great.

I can’t believe I have not written a review for this place yet! This place is down the street from our house and is our go to spot! It is always consistently delicious! The bentos are huge! The sushi rolls are huge! The portions are huge! And they have the most reasonable prices. And on top of that, everything is very fresh! This place is super clean, spacious, and cute! It truly is a hidden gem! This is great lunch spot since they are quick and not crowded! This would also be a great space to host a party at. I highly recommend Fish day! They really know what they are doing over there! And they are the sweetest and most accommodating ladies running that place!(Which is rare in Asian joints) Go to fish day! You won’t be disappointed!

I was here tonight and I loved it! The staff was very welcoming and sweet. I ordered a Rainbow Roll and a Spicy Tuna, both were delicious! Everything about my rolls were very fresh and tasty. This place is a real gem. I’m excited to try different items on their menu. P. S. The seashell filled tables were such a great touch!

My wife and I ate at Giant Burger many times, and so it was sad when it suddenly closed over a year ago( Unilocal didn’t believe me at first when I reported it). I was eager, though, to give this place a try, and we were finally able to yesterday. My wife didn’t want to eat here(she had a «preconceived notion» about the place– I went out of my way to tell her that the menu featured other things than sushi). That’s partly why I ordered enough to feed 2(I knew that my wife would start eating once I tried the food). Our total was $ 27.94(the prices here are a bit high, but the portions are big). The owner is friendly and pretty(she reminds me of my friend Suyon). She could tell right away that we were new, and so she encouraged us to take our time(she did the same thing with a new male customer who came in later). This helped me to feel at ease(I’m normally rushed when I go to a place for the first time). The other woman serves as a cashier too, but the owner is better suited for it. : The ambiance is nice overall, but a few things are ghetto. For some reason, there’s a box lid attached to the ceiling(it’s to the left of the«chandelier»). In the men’s restroom, the electrical box is uncovered. The ceiling vent is also hanging down. I’m not docking for this(I’ve seen it at a few restaurants when space is limited), but the table closest to the counter is used for supplies(the bar area is a little«messy» too, and there are some cleaning supplies in the men’s restroom). I didn’t really mind that my seat was hard, and our booth was more than big enough(«the sand table display» booths were free, but I only would have sat at one with a group). The women here aim to please, but they could be better in English. I asked for a straw on behalf of my wife. The women thought that I wanted soy sauce(I told my wife that they may have thought that I was blind, as the soy sauce was right in front of me at the time). I was eventually led to the straws, and I felt dumb for not noticing the straw dispenser earlier(I thought that the straws were near the styrofoam cups, but just didn’t see them at first). Later on, a Korean man had some trouble placing his order. It was also interesting when«Salmon» was said like my name(Simon). 2 men were smoking outside before they came in(because it stood out, I briefly stared at the bottle of Hunt’s ketchup at their table). The restaurant was clean, but it had a lot to do with the customers. None of the tables were bused, but it wasn’t necessary. The bar looks like it could be better stocked. In general, though, you’ll probably be able to order what you want. Only 5 other customers came in while we were here. Our food was ready in about 10 minutes. The condiment area is solid(among other things, there’s pepper and take out containers). Note: All prices include tax. : The menu is very accurate and complete(Beef Short Ribs seems to be the only item missing– they’re $ 16.45). I wish there was a fountain machine(can drinks are $ 1.38 each, which is a bit much). It’s also hard to tell what drinks are available(the fridge is pretty dark). I will order Faygo Root Beer next time now that I know that it’s served. : Beef Fried Rice($ 10.95): 8.25÷10. I was very pleased. Our fried rice was tasty, and my wife and I were each able to eat a lot. I removed some mushroom pieces, but that’s it. I was initially surprised at how brown our fried rice was, but the sauce that was mixed in added to the flavor. The beef pieces were fine, but I want to order Chicken Fried Rice next time. : BBQ Pork Ribs($ 14.25): 8.5÷10. The ribs were meaty and delicious. Lim’s Sauce will make your taste buds dance with fire, but only for a moment(the ribs are bearably hot). Mine were fine, but the rib that my wife had wasn’t hot enough. I didn’t like that the meal was sitting out for 3 minutes(the Beef Fried Rice took longer to prepare). I should have grabbed the bento right away like I wanted to. Our white rice was stickier than I would have liked(a big clump of it could have been used to pelt someone), but it was pretty good. I just added some soy sauce at the end(it was hotter than I expected– I didn’t mind, but my wife wasn’t a fan). My wife, to my surprise, didn’t want any of the veggies(they went to waste, but I quickly ate the orange slice). The parking lot is small, and the lines can be hard to see(we went here at about 11:45, and parking wasn’t an issue). My wife and I might never be regulars(we’re just not in the area that often), but we will definitely go here again.

It’s a family owned business that serves a mix of Japanese bento plates and some Korean food. Service is pretty quick, friendly, and the food is solid. The prices are very reasonable since a good portion of the items, you can pretty much share with one other person if you wanted to(well, if you’re a lighter eater). Four of us piled into one of the large booths with the sand table display and there’s a ton of room about a half hour before closing. We had the seafood pancake, tempura, swai fish special(with Lim’s special sauce), pork katsu, and chicken wings. We had enough food to take home too. Food was cooked well and seasoned appropriately. Nothing mind blowing by any means, but the consistency of good food seems to be there. That’s important for repeat customers. The place has a certain charm to it for me. Definitely coming back to try the other items. Also, they serve Faygo root beer!

Fish Day has been on my list of places to try for a while and finally got to try it out today. I was not sure what kind of food they had based on the name and some of the reviews. Turns out they have a variety of sushi items. This is a small family run restaurant with nice people which automatically gets a lot of points from me. I got the salmon ngiri which was very good. However the fried avocado, cheese and salmon roll was underwhelming. Too much batter and too rich, I ended up not finishing it. They do get extra points for making all their sauces in house.

Great restaurant ran by a couple. They were informative and the food prepared look very nice and it was delicious. The price was worth its value. No need to pay service charge fee as its like a food court, you order and wait for your order at the counter in about 5 – 10 minutes. Clean up after yourself.

«Fish Day» Chef Lims Cuisine: Jap-o-rean!(Japanese/Korean menu) The schizophrenic menu was intriguing, offering everything from standard teriyaki plate lunches to seafood pancake, even fish & chips?! SERVICE — I walked in, took a glance around @ the quaint, inviting interior… ‘Cool. However, I made the mistake of trying to build a rapport with the young girl behind the counter. No greeting, no smile, she was just standing there like a lump of day old, sticky rice.(I’m only kidding, sticky rice has more personality.) «So, what’s your most popular menu item and do you have any recommendations?» She mumbled out, «Well, the bento boxes are popular, like the chicken teriyaki…» I replied, «Great, I’ll have that and a Spider Roll also, please.»(I also ordered hot tea which never appeared.) That’s fine because the luke warm, tap water they offered in the 80F+ restaurant was perfect but more on that later. The girl did make a bit of conversation, albeit it was just to complain about how hot and miserable she was… In fact, she mentioned it to every customer that placed an order.(True story.) LOL — Then how about turning on the two fans sitting in the corner? After all it’s only 97 °F outside and about 82F+ in here with no A/C. Complaining to your customers about how hot YOU are is not going to make them feel any cooler in a restaurant with no A/C or circulating air… Yeh, it definitely helped in contributing to the overall«Suck factor,» in the review. Note: They also do not have soju on the menu either. Korean food and no soju? That’s sacrilegious! ‘Even a lot of sushi bars carry soju, Korean sake.(Hell, at least if they offered soju one could expect to have a relatively decent experience in spite of the food.) Well, my first impression with Fish Day’s spokesperson, «Ms. Congeniality,» left much to be desired. The banner out front reads, «Grand Opening.» The shop just opened its doors in March and complacency already… ‘Too bad. If you just opened shop a mere six months ago, I do not think that this is the tone you want to be setting with the potential new clientele?(Just a thought.) I took a seat at a far booth, near the corner so I could get a good view and take notes. Ten minutes later, enter UC’s boy’s in blue, a trio of the city’s finest… Ms. Congeniality went from no personality to «Chatty-Cathy,» in 2.6 seconds. It was quite funny to watch, @ss kissing at its finest and she was laying it on thick… ‘Almost as thick as the rice & artificial crab on my Spider Roll. «You get a free drink on the house and a discount too!»(‘And like the crab, she was just as fake.) FOOD — Waste $$ Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box — A complete waste of money and the Spider Roll was just as impressive. The chicken was hard, dry, tough and just plain«bad.» Dry is dry, no matter how much teriyaki sauce you try to soak it in. Fail. Spider Roll(i.e. — Rice Roll) The roll had a very fishy taste to it and like the chicken, it was dry, hard and chewy… At least they’re consistent! «Fish Day» Chef Lims Cuisine Cui·sine(noun) — a style or method of cooking, especially as characteristic of a particular country, region, or establishment. — food cooked in a certain way. Fish Day doesn’t fall under the first definition of the term, «Cuisine,» since it offers a menu w/both Japanese AND Korean dishes therefore by default it must be referring to number two, «Food cooked a certain way.»(‘And crappy would definitely qualify as a «certain way.») The shop reminds me of a cross between a picnic outing and a food truck. It’s an eccentric mix of quirkiness. ALL self-serve, so basically there’s technically no real reason to tip… ‘But I did anyway. There is no wait staff, you place your order @ the counter and pick it up when the young lady calls out your number… Correction, «yells» out your number. I found that to be quite entertaining as well. There were only two other tables in the restaurant and she was yelling out orders like we were all deaf or it was a full house. LOL — You don’t need to yell like you’re at a rock concert, «ORDER36! TERIYAKICHICKEN! ORDER36!!» Really… ‘As the customer is sitting just opposite of her, a couple of tables away? F*k’n hilarious. Did I mention quirky? The tap water is served in plastic bottles @ room temperature. If you want ice, there’s a Coleman cooler that you can scoop ice from. Oh great a communal ice bucket, «Lets all share germs on ice!» I’m sure that’ll go over great with health department? It’s like camping with all the amenities of a food truck less the four tires. As another Unilocal*er put it, «How does this place have a 4 ½ Star rating with food/service like this?» Bizarre. I was looking forward to a great lunch but with the numerous mediocre eateries around, this one is equally passable. — Big Aloha! Food: 2 Ambiance: 2(No A/C; no fans running) Service: 2 Value: 2+

Fish Day is difficult to pigeonhole. menu has korean/japanese entrees: sashimi, sushi rolls, teriyaki, soontofu, bbq ribs, fish & chips, donburis, etc. dining area has booths and tables(10ish). eats: fish & chips(9.95)-oysters, 9 freshly breaded, not the frozen kind –with salad, rice, sweet potato fries, –lots of food, –taste not the usual, but fresh tasting. interesting sauce for oysters, dressing for salad. take outs: –food prep time a little longer, everything made from scratch. –lots of food, friendly service, quick acknowledgment when i enter. –on sale liquor license pending, applied for… 4.5 stars

A for effort! Although it’s not the best asian food in the area, but it’s a cute mom/pop restaurant that really tries! I got the soondooboo(korean tofu soup) and it was okay. A little too watery, and not enough spice. I’d say go with their other rice dishes! I also got the salmon donburi before and that was much better. It’s just fried salmon on top of rice with a side salad. The salmon was moist so it was great! Also, great portions! The interior is really cute, with cute booths lined around the restaurant. Looks much better inside than outside! I’m putting this on my list of great places to get takeout!

BIGBENTOS. If we’re going to compare this price range, the chicken teriyaki wasn’t as good as Sarku’s in Valley Fair. But I will say that the portions are huge, especially if you get the ribs. I also had the Spider Roll which was satisfactory. It was takeout so the tempura wasn’t as crunchy as it could’ve been but the size was generous for the price($ 6). Come here expecting casual lunch food!

Not sure why this place has glistening reviews to the point where it gets a 4 ½ star rating on here. Fish Day is little mom and pop restaurant located in a hidden strip mall on Alvarado Niles Road and next to Domino’s Pizza. As we entered the restaurant, it was pretty empty on a Saturday at around 7pm. We procceded to the ordering counter and the chefs were busy cooking away. The waitress, was doing so many things at once rather than interested in helping us. Once we decided on what we wanted, we procceded to order. She then started taking our order, but while doing a bunch of other things. I ordered Beef Donburi, and the lady was like it’s fried and then pointed to the picture. I don’t get how it could be fried, I mean fried beef? Then she was like if you don’t want that, we can just put it with terriyaki sauce… Then we ordered Beef Tofu Soup, and she charged us $ 9.95 for it, when it clearly says $ 8.95, she doesn’t even know her own menu or prices. she was surprised herself that it said $ 8.95… When they called our number, went and got our food. It came in togo type containers, as this is as a fast food type of place. The food was really meh, and just more meh. The service was a big neh as well, hardly any service. While they asked us if everything was okay, the waitress just sat a table with another family, probably her firneds and just chatted away very loudly too. For the price they charge, it isn’t worth it, because they don’t give out side dishes like other restaurants do and they charge just as much… As to why this place has such glistening reviews, I’m not sure why. My mom said she wouldn’t come back.
