Absolutely excellent. El Típico Coqui catered my Thanksgiving dinner and my guests left satisfied on the yummilious meal we shared.

Was a bit skeptical of how good this place could possibly be! I passed by a bunch of times but never got the chance to stop in but being a Puerto Rican food addict I knew I had to try it one day! Well today, was that day and I love/hated it. Loved it because it reminded me of my grandmother’s home cooking, hated it because I’m pretty sure I’m going to gain 50 pounds in the next month if my lack of self control has anything to do with it. I sent my husband who returned with a bag of fried goodies, arroz con gandules(rice with pigeon peas) and baked chicken. The alcapurrias(plantain/root veggies fried and stuffed with ground beef) were the BEST I’ve had outside of PR hands down. The pastelillos(empanadas) were good but pretty standard. One thing I liked about both were that you could see they had olives and stuff in the filling, unlike other restaurants that go cheap and leave this stuff out. The rice was super authentic, on point with traditional pr cooking. The chicken although baked was super tasty and had almost a bbq flavor! They also topped the food off with guineitos en escabeche, boiled plantain slices in a vinegar dressing served cold with onions… so freakin good(this was the one thing my non Puerto Rican husband wasn’t crazy about, but I loved)!!! This place does not disappoint & I’d totally recommend to anyone looking for real Puerto Rican cooking!

Love it! First of all, the lady was really nice and friendly make me feel like home. I try the beef empanada and the alcapurrias, an it bring me back to PR! They also have ‘piqué’ that my boyfriend love with his empanada. If you’re craving some frituras, you have to go!!! Even the roast pork was delicious and we only try it– we’re definitely coming back for more!

This small casita is a gem. I was greeted with a warm friendly smile and the aromatic Spanish spices hit my nose. The attendant suggested the pig feet and I went with it. I ran to my car, tore the bag open and was in heaven. I couldn’t stop eating it. It was so flavorful so tender and the sauce was magnificent. I will be back!

Great empanadas. We tried their beef and chicken ones and although I had bought four thinking we’d eat one each and save the other two for the next day, we couldn’t help but finish them. The guy behind the counter(maybe the owner?) was very friendly too.

Found this place Unilocaling for Puerto Rican food in the area. Walked in and saw familiar faces. Owners here used to own another restaurant years ago that I was sad to see go. Only thing I tried as of yet were there empanadas. They were like I remember. Good. Tipical Puerto Rican style. Owner/staff still friendly/lively as remembered. The food was good at their last restaurant, so hoping its good here too. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu.

This place is amazing! The food is good, the service is great, and it’s all at a great price. We live nearby and this is definitely our favorite restaurant in the area. If we have any knock on the place, it’s that they don’t have a set menu and the food changes from day to day; but all that means is I get to try a lot of different types of delicious Puerto Rican food. A favorite that does seem to be pretty regular is the chicken stew on rice. I also really enjoyed the ribs tonight. Both times, my wife and I have eaten for a grand total of $ 14 plus tip. And the friendliness and service are consistent and refreshing. In case it wasn’t clear yet, I recommend this place for sure.

I came to town to help my sister move and was craving homestyle Puerto Rican food as I haven’t been able to go back to Puerto Rico in a while and I miss home. We found this place through Unilocal and I’m so glad we did. It looks like a small, simple restaurant from outside. We were immediately greeted by the store’s owner. They had fresh, traditional frituras(empanadillas de carne, pizza, alcapurrias), carne guisada(beef stew), pernil asado(roasted pork) plus arroz con gandules(rice with pigeon peas) plus white rice and beans. I got the pork with rice/pigeon peas and it was DELICIOUS! Truly felt like I was having a meal back home. Each plate(almuerzo) was $ 7 and they give you HUGE portions. The staff there were truly wonderful. Very attentive and friendly. They treated us like family. Being away from my island for the past three years has been tough but this certainly helped. I’m coming back to NJ just to come eat here. Come try this place. You won’t be disappointed. P. s. They deliver!!!

This is a tiny traditional«fonda» that serves home style Puerto Rican food to stay or to go. I was thrilled to find a genuinely Puerto Rican restaurant in the neighborhood. They have very affordable lunch specials of chicken, beef, Mofongo(crushed green plantain with heavy garlic and pork cracklings, usually accompanied with shrimp, chicken or beef), and soup, including Mondongo(Tripe). They have homemade«Pasteles de Guineo», a kind of Puerto Rican boiled tamal made of ground green banana, stuffed with spices and pork, wrapped in a banana leave. They also have a great assortment of Puerto Rican fried snacks or «Cuchifritos», such as «Sorullos»(corn sticks) with cheese, «empanadillas»(equivalent to Latin American empanadas), «bacalaitos»(cod fish fritters) and«alcapurrias»(deep fried ground green plantain or Yuca stuffed with spices and ground beef). I tried the Yuca alcapurria and the Pastel de Guineo. Both were delicious. I look forward to returning to this place. And oh, for drink, they have Coco Rico(Puerto Rican Coconut Soda). This place is truly authentic!

My fiancé and I noticed this cute little restaurant around the corner that just opened recently, and saw they had empanadas. We ran in to go grab a little bit to bring home with us, and man were our socks blown off! The owner is super sweet(bilingual, which rocks), and boy she can COOK. We ended up leaving with pernil, empanadas(pizza and beef), and alcapurria– enough to stuff both of us, for less than $ 7. The pernil(pork) was seasoned so well, and texture was perfect and falling apart with our fingers. Beef empanada tasted great, the pizza was interesting– a good interesting, and reminded me of a slice of sicilian with a sweet dough. The alcapurria was pretty tasty, as well. This place definitely does not disappoint! To the owner if you read this: thank you so much!!!
