Specialties
White Salmon Vineyard owns and operates a wine tasting room which includes a small café serving light fare to accompany our wines and please your palate. We are located in the historic Underwood Mercantile building on SR 14 where the White Salmon River joins the Columbia. You can enjoy a glass or bottle while sitting on our patio taking in the view of Mt. Hood, the Columbia River and wind kiters while you sip and picnic.
In addition, we grow 20 acres of wine grapes one mile from the tasting room on Underwood Mountain. The vineyard is comprised of primarily Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, with Syrah, Malbec, Reisling and Sauvignon Blanc rounding out the selection we use in our wine production. We produce several other varietals made from grapes we purchase from other notable vineyards.
Under our «BrehmVineyards.com» address, we sell grapes to home winemakers and small commercial wineries. You might just give it a try!
Come taste with us; our wines were designed with you in mind.
History
Established in 1970.
White Salmon Vineyard is the third phase of a business started forty years ago when we opened a retail store in California selling home wine and beer making supplies. At that time grape concentrates were commonly used, but Peter almost immediately introduced fresh grapes from Napa and Sonoma. This was quickly followed by Peter Brehm’s innovative process of freezing and shipping grape juice and «must». Peter was also very instrumental in the legalization of home brewing in California.
After several years we decided to specialize exclusively in the wine grape business and continue to do so today as Brehmvineyards.com. We provide the finest grapes available and sell fresh and frozen grapes to both home winemakers and small wineries.
The next a step, a vineyard! Here in the Pacific Northwest we found the perfect spot to grow Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and have since added other varietals to our 20-acre vineyard. Our winery was established in 2003 and our wine tasting room in 2012.
Meet the Business Owner
Peter B.
Business Owner
Peter’s introduction into the world of winemaking began when he and a group of friends made a barrel of Ziinfandel. Thus began a 40-year career.
A self taught winemaker and viticulturist, he has found success at both. He has produced many award-winning wines, planted a world-class vineyard in the Columbia Gorge AVA, and has won the respect of his peers.
