MCCAFFREY HOUSE BED AND BREAKFAST INN is a delightfully warm and enchanting mountain lodge nestled in the quiet forest hollow of the High Sierras — near Yosemite National Park. McCaffrey House is a Four Diamond AAA property, also a member of Select Registry.

The inn was lovingly built by Michael and Stephanie McCaffrey. The gathering areas are spacious and beautifully decorated with a fascinating collection of furniture and art acquired during their extensive travels.

Guestrooms are warmly romantic and feature handmade Amish quilts, fire stoves, private bath, TV/​VCR, CD players, high-​speed wireless internet, and include a pet friendly suite … all rooms have exquisite views of the forest that envelops the Inn.

History

Established in 1996.

The McCaffrey House property was purchased by Stephanie’s parents in 1964 and has been a lifelong vacation retreat for the entire family.

When Michael began to think about retirement, his plan was to ski 100 days a year, fish, and paint. Stephanie, a highly energetic person, thought the retirement idea was a little limiting. Extensive discussions led to the assessing of their individual and shared talents — that include entertaining, culinary arts, decorating … and the discipline of entrepreneurial excellence. Thus, a shared vision was born — McCaffrey House Bed & Breakfast Inn.



The Inn is the result of nearly five years of design, planning, and construction on the site where the McCaffrey country cottage once stood. Despite the fact that the Inn is several times the size of the original cottage, the warmth and the coziness remain. We welcome your visit to our home, Sierra lodge … retreat from all worldly cares!

This charming b&b is run by the sweetest couple. We had an awesome experience with lots of meaningful conversations. It is in a wonderful area, well furnished, and all around beautiful atmosphere. Tesla charger is what got us in the door but the owners are what will bring us back! Highly recommend.

This was my first time at a bed and breakfast and it was absolutely amazing. The owners are so friendly and such amazing people. This place is so beautiful, we had a great view from our room, and the beds are so comfortable. They also have the sweetest, friendliest dogs that make this B&B even more welcoming and homey. Breakfast was delicious (bread pudding, scrambled eggs, bacon, and fresh fruit) and I couldn’t eat another bite. Even though it’s a little over an hour from Yosemite, I’ll definitely be back when I’m in the area.

One of the best breakfasts we’ve had at a B&B. (1st day-​fluffy egg casserole, 2nd day-​bread pudding, plus excellent coffee! fresh fruit, yogurt, bacon/​sausage) The friendly and helpful innkeepers made us feel like we were at home and treated our dog like royalty. I appreciated the extra touches like newspapers, books, tea/​cookies, bedside treat, handmade soap, etc) The private ‘Mayo Room’ was located downstairs in the back of the house complete with a patio. Took off a star for the hard queen mattress. (not the best B&B bed I’ve experienced) We slept with the slider door open and did hear a bit of road noise that echoed from the trees.

We had the most lovely experience here. The rooms are delightful with beautiful views. The breakfast was amazing! We had high expectations because of the reviews but no one could have prepared us for how kind the owners treat you and how great the food is. We’d stay here again in a heart beat.

We just returned from McCaffrey House Bed & Breakfast, and couldn’t be more pleased. Everything from reservations through arrival was handled impeccably and Stephanie and Michael make you feel immediately welcome. We stayed in the Waterford Room, and enjoyed a relaxing evening looking at the pines and taking in the serenity. Breakfast the next morning was cordial and delicious, with the best bread pudding in the world. We had both been to Twain Harte in our youth and it was wonderful to re-​live memories and discover more we shared. My husband took me away for the a long relaxing birthday weekend and we had the pleasure of staying at the McCaffrey House B&B. We knew right from the start when Finnigan greeted us at the front door that we were in for a wonderful stay and we were correct. We enjoyed a very relaxing couple’s massage in our room the day we arrived. The breakfast each morning was just perfect. My personal favorite was Stephanie’s Bread Pudding which she gladly shared the recipe for. The McCaffrey House is a warm and cozy place and Stephanie, Michael and staff make you feel so welcome! My husband declared to me in the first hour we were there that this was his favorite B&B of all the ones we have stayed at. The rooms are large and the bathrooms stocked with everything you need. The sheets were the softest I had ever slept on and Stephanie even helped me order a set. The wrap around decks make you truly feel you are in the forest or in a magical place. We appreciated the wine and chocolate put in our room. I can’t say enough good things about this place. The innkeepers and staff go above and beyond to make their guest feel welcomed. Thanks for a wonderful weekend with my husband.

My daughter and I had the pleasure of staying here for a long weekend. It was like heaven. The hospitality extended by the owners was so warm and welcoming, our room was immaculate with the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in! The other guests provided interesting company and breakfast was delicious. I will remember those few days for the rest of my life. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a great escape!

This place is wonderful! Cozy, comfy, homey. We (me and my husband) stayed for 2 nights on 9⁄19 and 9⁄20. Everything is very well kept. Bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, glasses, cups, cookie jars, all very clean and dust free.
Stephanie is an excellent cook. Both breakfast she served were fresh and delicious! She and her husband, Michael, are very welcoming. The other housekeeper, Marlene, also very helpful and friendly. We shared stories with the other guests during breakfast. Very fun. After that, everyone gone doing their own business. We are free to use the living room to read book, or watch dvd. Assorted cookies always available 24⁄7. The surroundings very serene. I could just sit on the patio and watch the birds and squirrels play. Their pets (Finnigan, Blue and Granite) are friendly and polite.
We really enjoyed our stay here. It beats staying at hotel (my personal opinion). Exchanging stories with Stephanie and other guests has enriched my life experience. The guests could get socializing time as much as they want, the same goes with privacy. They let us be when we done socializing.
And, the complimentary welcome champagne and chocolates, plus the bedside chocolate, were tasty. (Oh, one more thing, at day, we roamed the Yosemite area. At night, we strolled the downtown Twain Hearte, only 5 minutes drive from the house. We found The Rock, who served delicious hamburger and the local best apple cider. They brewed good beers, too!)
McCaffrey House now is one of the most memorable places I have been to. *happy smiles*

We loved staying at McCaffrey House Bed & Breakfast! This is our second visit and we plan to keep on coming here on our annual vacation in Twain Harte. The rooms are magnificent, roomy and clean. Breakfast is wonderful — Stephanie made a lot of effort to comply with our special diet, and the result was wonderful. They welcomed our dog Hugo, who played happily with the house’s dogs. All in all it was a wonderful stay — I highly recommend this gem of a B&B to anyone planning to stay in this neck of the woods.

If you are in Twain Harte or Yosemite National Park, this is the place to stay and they love dogs! Stephanie and Michael are wonderful hosts. Our accommodations we meticulous and the bed was most comfortable. We’ve stayed at many B and B’s and this is one of the best. We had to leave early in the morning, that was no problem for Stephanie, breakfast was served beautifully and deliciously at our request.
The eggs Benedict were wonderful! The property is so pretty, with outside seating on lovely deck for breakfast in good weather. Our furry friend, our Yorkie was welcomed with open arms.

Amazing! This beautiful B&B house was designed and built by the owners just for this purpose. The rooms are large and accommodating with balconies and private bathrooms. Each room is beautifully decorated and appointed to fit an individual theme. The bed and linens were so comfortable the only thing that could pry me out in the mornings was the home cooked breakfasts with hot food (today was eggs-​Benedict… YUM!!). The hosts, Stephanie and Michael were very nice and helpful, they made our stay here so comfortable and with the home cooked breakfasts, it was like being at home with family.
The house is located among lots of activities whether it be a trip to Yosemite, skiing in the mountains, going to Murphys for a wine tour or hiking among the sequoias. If you aren’t sure what to do, just ask Stephanie. she definitely knows the area. I can’t think of any problems or issues with my stay here. I have seen some negative postings on Unilocal for this house but it seems that those folks have problems with pet allergies or steps so if that’s the worst thing you can come up with, I just gotta say that my feeling is that if you are going to surround yourself by nature in the mountains, you are going to meet up with animals and steps so just leave those issues behind and enjoy your stay here.

Great two night stay at this fine B & B”
My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary and booked with this property through a Living Social Coupon. One of the nice aspects to these coupons is that it is exposes us to places that we might never go to.
Thus Twain Harte. It is a wonderful little town with fine dining, clean forest air and wonderful hiking. We hiked around Pinecrest Lake and then drove into Sonora for some lunch,
McCaffrey House made us feel at home as we had full run of the kitchen to make tea and have cookies. There is a wine and cheese serving in the early eve where guests can gather. Many interesting folk staying at the Inn.
Rooms were spacious, comfortable and well furnished.
The innkeepers were most gracious and hospitable. Stephanie seemed like she really cared that we were satisfied.
Breakfasts were served family style with guests sharing tables and conversations. The food was homemade and delicious.
For us, one of the greatest parts of McCaffrey House is that they welcomed our dog Ranger, treating him like part of the family. The property is fenced in and a well behaved dog like Ranger could roam the perimeter with the owners two well mannered dogs, no problem.
Highly recommend this establishment for a weekend getaway to the peaceful pleasant world of Twain Harte.

I have very mixed feelings about this place. Yes it is a very lovely, well-​designed place. I read some things about the innkeepers which are basically true. Bottom line; they seem to be living in their own world.
For instance: I did not feel confident that our credit card information was handled correctly. In fact is wasn’t. She said she would only charge it for the first night, so I gave her a card on the phone that generally does not have a large amount in it. The other one was with my husband.
I told her to absolutely not charge the full amount on that card… and she agreed she would not. Low and behold, the next day (two weeks before our arrival!) she charged the total amount and I had to absorb a $ 28. fee because of it.
Then when we arrived, she CREDITED our stay on our credit card then debited it. This confused the credit card company so that we could not use that card for a week until the credit became a debit!
Stephanie seemed mentally distracted and unable to concentrate. If you go, make sure you are on top of it with your requests.
Additionally, sleeping three nights there we have three mornings of back aches and nights of uncomfortable sleep due to their ‘new’ mattresses. Had they focused on their purchase, they’d have purchased something less firm and a little more comfy. Realizing one cannot please everyone, they could have tried out the mattresses none-​the-​less.
The food was visually pretty but not all that good or filling. But different.
All in all I think this lovely B and B should be run by some people that are younger, more focused and more sensitive to people. You just can’t get by with ‘visuals’ — or whatever your customers experienced twenty years ago. There must be more than that to create a satisfying experience for all guests. Especially if you are going to charge more than $ 200 per room!

Such an incredible experience! The location was perfect for a get-​away and relaxation. Stephanie was supremely helpful with reservations, communication, and helping me and my boyfriend locate spots for hiking in the area. Breakfast was delicious. The bed was comfortable and our view was truly amazing. They have sweet pups that greet you upon arrival and carry the home-​y and comfortable feel all the way through your stay.
Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a retreat and will keep on the top of my list for a mountain vacation escape.

What an absolutely fabulous bed & breakfast. The inn keepers Stephanie and Michael are delightful, friendly, and full of great day trip and restaurant suggestions. The breakfast meals that Stephanie prepared were scrumptious. We stayed in the Evergreen room, which had a great view of the surrounding woods and a porch (which we didn’t use since it wasn’t exactly balmy out). There is really nothing better than waking up and seeing the snow falling. And having a fireplace all to your own! Would definitely recommend, though just don’t plan on visiting the same night I do, I call dibs on the Evergreen room!
