So after a visit to Texas and my cousin introducing me to these nifty kolaches, I came back to SoCal with cravings. I immediately Unilocaled for a place and discovered the Kolache Factory. I’ll have to say, I’m not sure if it’s a good or bad thing I was introduced to these heavenly babies. I’ve been here quite often since discovering it. The varieties of flavors are well beyond the two options I was introduced to in Texas. My favorites are sausage & gravy, sausage with jalapeño & cheese, sausage with egg & cheese, and my most favorite the Italian chicken. The fillings are generous and super good. I’ve also had there Texas hot, polish mild, ranchero, ham & cheese, and ham with egg & cheese. I can’t say I’ve disliked any of them so you really can’t go wrong. Some of them, particularly the ones with egg are more filling and closer to a meal than snack. I usually get full on one in the morning but that’s because I don’t typically eat big breakfasts. During lunch I could easily scarf down 2 maybe 3 of the non-egg kolaches. They also write your kolaches on the box or bag so you know which one is which. You can sign up to earn points and get freebies. Oh and they’re right next to Tan Hoang Huong, if you’re a café sua da and Kolache person, if not they have plain coffee at Kolache Factory too. In any case, highly recommended spot!

Perfect for breakfasts or as snacks. Shame that they are open only till 2 pm. The fillings are just great. Sometimes I feel like the base of the kolache is undercooked, so I throw them off. The ones with egg are so filling. The pepperoni ones are a bit salty for me. Don’t forget to join the fivestars program if you are a regular. Points get you quite a lot of free stuff.

So I literally work across the street from here I saw this place and I thought to myself why not give it a chance. It’s basically food in a bun. Although I’m not to fond of there pizza bun the other one I had was the bacon stuffed jalepenos and it was super tasty I only bought two for lunch and I got super stuffed and it was super cheap. Love this pit and I’ll be back for more

Poor location with generally bad parking. No place to eat outside that doesn’t smell like sewage. And imo, they close too early, at 2PM. But I’m obsessed with this place. If I’m passing through, four out of five times, I will *have* to stop by. It’s that good. — Sausage and gravy. Legit. I’ve noticed that this flavor is saltier when it’s made to order, as opposed to the ones out on display. — Italian gravy. Creamy deliciousness. Nom nom. — Ranchero. Like a breakfast burrito’s little cousin. Occasionally too spicy for me. — Philly cheese. Popular flavor. Thin strips of meat soaked in a cream-of-mushroom-based filling. If I want to change it up, I’ll consider this one. — Their monthly special flavors are consistently superior. So far, cheeseburger has trounced it. Ugh, too good. Flavors I avoid include: pepperoni, too salty and meaty; and BBQ beef, too sweet and meaty. While«meaty» might be a good thing to some, the flat flavor in these selections makes them extra filling, in a bad way. Extra notes: Kolache Factory does sell out of their popular flavors when it nears closing. Call ahead to confirm selection, or place your order for pick up. They also take the Five Star loyalty program, which is always a cool perk.

Why have I waited so long to review this place? I have been coming since they opened. There is no way of describe the taste of these little treasure– unbelievable. Service has always been great. The taste is to DIEFOR! Must try this spot!!! They close early though so come before 2! They also have great coupons so subscribe to their email list, add them on four stars, and ask about the text deals! They also email good coupons to Tustin locals– it’s the only coupon I look for in my mailbox before I toss the rest :-)

Fluffy goodness. In the beginning I thought they were not cooked well, but I was so wrong. The stuff they put into the bread and the filling is just out of this world. I bought the family kolache breakfast with sausage, bacon, and sweet pastry and they were so lush. To me personally the bacon and the sweets were the best. Thanks for making breakfast amazing.

This place is great! I sometimes stop here for breakfast on my way to work. The potato egg and cheese is my favorite and the spinach one tastes just like spinach dip. And the ranchero too! So good!

I’ve never had a kolache before, so I don’t have a lot to compare to, but the closest thing I could describe these to are like the garlic dough knots that you get Italian restaurants but with fillings in the middle. I tried The bacon and cheddar as well as one called a sunrise which was filled with scrambled eggs cheese pico and jalapeños. The bacon and cheddar was extremely dense and heavy. The sunrise was pretty good and the eggs were light and fluffy but the jalapeños definitely pack a punch. If I were in the area again, I would stop in to try a few more varieties.

The restaurant is clean, tidy and the food is filling, inexpensive and delicious. I just ate breakfast for under two dollars and I think I might have eaten too much. I bought a philly cheese steak and chocolate cheese kolache to go, Im excited to have a good meal for lunch and discover what other good food this place has to offer

delicious breakfast and lunch pastries from here I am a fan of the peperoni pizza kolaches, the better half loves the sunrise ones — the croissants are pretty good too. Sometimes a bit of a line but never disappoints. Heat them a bit when ready to serve and BLAMM a great meal or treat.

This place is decent and affordable for breakfast, but it’s nothing too amazing. It’s exactly as you would expect: buns filled with meat. I ordered the chorizo egg and cheese, and also the ham and cheese. Both were just alright; if I ever come back, I guess I’ll order one of the more popular items and see how those are. Also, service was great and parking is plentiful in this plaza.

Sorry guys. I don’t understand the hype. I was waiting for this place to open since I saw the sign and thought, HEY! something close and new! I hope it’s good! I’ve given it so many tries but I still don’t think it’s anything to rave about. I’m surprised it has the rating that it does! It’s a ball of bread with meat inside. Its bland, doesn’t leave a lasting impression and I def don’t want more after eating one. Just so basic and meehh I’ll just save my $ and go eat breakfast somewhere else

Kolaches Factory Bakery and Café is a small mom and pop shop that specializes in Czech pastries. From my understanding a kolache is a bun with various fillings on the inside, and on my recent visit I ordered two — one with creamed spinach and the other with scrambled eggs and chorizo. Each kolache is between $ 2 to $ 3 a piece and while it’s somewhat expensive, I would certainly recommend people to try it out as it’s pretty unique. Try it for yourself. There are more than a dozen different types to choose from.

Love at first bite! I was introduced to these decadent pastry stuffed balls/rolls a few weeks ago and had to come back for more! The dough is honestly cooked to perfection and the various filling options will have you standing in line going back and forth in your mind about which one to choose. I bought a dozen for my coworkers and they loved all of them. We sipped on some coffee while indulging in the Ranchero, Sausage & Gravy, Jalepeno Popper, Chicken Enchilada, Potato & Egg, and Sunrise stuffed balls/rolls. All of which were beyond yummy. If this location were a little bit closer to home and the office, well let’s just say I’d be in trouble because I would probably make it a point to stop in weekly. I would more than likely never crave a morning bagel again if it meant I could munch on one of these bad boys in the a.m. The price range varies depending on which filling you order. I paid $ 34 for a dozen. A little steep for a breakfast item in my opinion but you can’t find anything like this around so I’m happy to pay. If you’re in the area stop by. If you’re not in the area, point the car in this direction. You’ll be happy you did!

I like how early this place opens when I have to be at school at 7am. Bread stuffed with meat is usually my go-to breakfast when I’m on the go so I thought this would be great. Each piece of kolache was good but not amazing and the price didn’t justify it either. They are pretty dense and heavy but barely the size of my palm. I would rather bring a dozen donuts for $ 10 then get a dozen for $ 30. Sausage and gravy: This was very good. I bet it would have tasted better warm. Sausage, jalapeño and cheese: The sausage was different. I was expecting a breakfast type of sausage link but it was more like a hot dog sausage. This was very tiny compared to others but the jalapeño provided a nice kick of spice. Potato, bacon and cheese: This was pretty heavy so it was a good snack. Too much potatoes and I didn’t even notice where the bacon was. I wouldn’t make my way over here. If I was in the area and need something quick to feed me then I would come over.

If you like bread filled stuffed or even meat pies, this is the place. If I have a place like this near my home or work, I’d get F-A-T. Through the few times I’ve been to THH for banh mi(2 stores to the right), I’ve never noticed this place and it has been opened for a couple of years! By pure chance, THH opened later because of the holiday and so I had 20 mins to kill. Went inside and noticed the display of buns and other pastries. I started to read the menu and was instantly intrigued. I ordered the Ranchero(5⁄5) which is a doughy bun with a ham, scrambled egg, cheese, jalapeño, & salsa filling. The bun was moist and slightly dense in the center. The salsa gave it a nice flavor! I also ordered the Potato, Egg & Cheese Kolache for my sister. I didn’t try it but she said it was very good! I also noticed that they have Tobasco, Mustard, and other condiments for the bread and pastries here. The menu is not limited to Kolache but there are croissants, rolls, cinnamon rolls here too! I will be coming here again, there’s so many other Kolaches to try! It’s a good place for breakfast or a quick snack. Note: You can also order online! :)

What is a Kolache? A Kolach(plural kolache) is Czech or Slovak pastry that holds a dollop of fruit, rimmed by a puffy pillow of supple dough. Czech settlers created klobasniky after they immigrated to Texas, and is also refer to as kolache, which is popular in central and southeast Texas. It often uses similar bread, but is filled with a link of sausage or ground sausage. They may also contain ham, cheese, jalapeño, eggs and bacon/sausage, potato, etc., and they resemble a «pig in a blanket». They have 38 locations in the United States, mostly in Texas, but only 1 in California. I wanted to bring some goodies to a meeting, so I stopped by the Tustin location. The store is located at 14091 Newport Avenue, just south of the 5 freeway, in a busy strip mall clustered nearby fast food places like Carl’s Jr, Little Caesars, and the popular Tan Hoang Huong(THH) sandwich shop. Prices for these ball of dough starts at $ 1.19 for a sausage kolache to $ 3.75 for a specialty egg filled croissant. On their website, I signed up for their email and received a «buy 3– get 3 free» coupon, and used it to buy the savory kolache, as they were more expensive than the sweet ones. It took me a while to pick 6, but I finally decided on: BBQ beef, pepperoni, sausage and cheese, Italian chicken, a seasonal kolach: turkey and dressing, and the chicken enchilada. With the Buy3, Get 3 discount, my total came to $ 8.35, saving me $ 6. For the sweet or non meat kolache, I decided to make it an even dozen and got 6 more: a chocolate cheese, 3 fruits: blueberry, cherry and apple, and 2 of the flavor of the month: pumpkin pie. Prices for the sweeter kolache were cheaper, ranging from $ 1.50 for the fruit to $ 2.19 for the seasonal pumpkin pie. My total for those 6 came to $ 10.53, bringing the grand total for the dozen to about $ 20(including the B3G3 discount). While not terribly expensive for a dozen treats, it wasn’t the cheapest either. I was told to refrigerate the items, and for the sweet kolache, serve at room temperature. For the savory, I can microwave one at 20 seconds or the entire box for 1 minute. Unlike the sweet kolache, which is open faced, its a mystery on how the inside of a savory one looks like without cutting one open. I’m sure it looks like a hot pocket or empanada. Unilocal reviews were positive, so I am sure that it is tasty, and that this was a good pot luck contribution. Kolache Factory is open from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm, and their web site is

«They say fingers were made before forks, and hands before knives.» –Jonathan Swift What is a Kolache? «A kolache is a warm, delicious, slightly sweet fresh-baked pastry traditionally filled with sausage, cheese, or fruit.» How do you pronounce it? Koh-lash. Basically, these are similar to Hot Pockets but way, waaaaaaay, WAAAAAAAAAAAY better! I went in to try one, and walked out with a dozen, which set me back around $ 30. They lasted me and the hubs for breakfasts, and lunches for the next few days, and kept fantastically in the refrigerator. The young lady helping me was nice enough to draw a diagram on the inside of the box, to let me know which Kolache was which! They were all tasty, but a few definitely stood out as ones I would certainly return for. I was a huge fan of the Sausage Egg & Cheese, Spinach, and the Sunrise; which was just eggs, cheese and tomato. The hubs liked the Philly Cheesesteak. The Ranchero was also good, but a bit too spicy for my tastes. The Pepperoni and Mushroom was 98% pepperoni. I think I found a couple small mushroom bits in there, but they do not skimp on the ‘roni! Their Ham-Egg-Cheese croissant was also a winner! In retrospect, I really should have tried one of the fruit Kolaches too. Ah, but there’s always next time… like tomorrow. ;) Please note: There is limited indoor seating. You will only find two small wall bars with stools. This is a grab-n-go kind of place. Thank you to Unilocaler Lica N. who put this on my radar!

Seriously though, who doesn’t like stuffed balls of goodness? You really can’t go wrong with any of the fillings here. I usually get the ranchero, bacon and cheese, jalapeño popper, jalapeño and cheese, or bacon egg and cheese. The ranchero is definitely the most diverse and it’s good. Depending on which filling you get there are two different sized kolaches. I’m usually filled by eating one or two! Cheap breakfast for under $ 3 a piece. They open early at 6AM but close at 2PM. Now that I don’t work in Tustin anymore, I wish I had this more often. One comment I have to make is that they reheat with a microwave. It’s fast and efficient but just weird for an establishment to microwave food.

A kolache is like a European version of the Chinese bun/bao. It’s a sweet or savory filled bread roll. They have all types of flavor combinations like: –potato, egg, and cheese –chorizo, egg, and cheese –sausage and gravy –Italian chicken — pepperoni –spinach –BBQ beef –cinnamon twist –chocolate and cheese And the list goes on! The price is different for each one but they range between $ 2-$ 3 Recommendations: chorizo, egg, and cheese; chocolate and cheese; Italian chicken and bbq beef. I’m sure there’s more that are worth trying, but I like these best. Also, they warm them up for you so you can enjoy them on the spot!
